- [Music] coronation procession
- quick the seven regiments of the British Army's household
- division have a job like no other everyone happy go their sworn duty is to
- protect the Monarch and the royal family the defense of the realm that's essentially our number one job what
- brother they're both Frontline soldiers and masters of tradition not
- closing up by The Far Side you definitely know they're coming don't you oh yes W get off the horse we go behind
- closed doors during one of the most challenging periods in its illustrious history it's a bit crazy trying to speak
- to everybody when there's so many people on the streets but you know that is London following them on overseas
- operation and getting ready for war the idea is to rev the troops up
- 1:07
- till they are seething with anger at the same time as delivering the biggest
- 1:12
- national celebrations in [Music] Generations including the king's
- 1:18
- coronation we've got to get a move on the gold State coach is in danger of stopping and that's mission fail and his
- 1:24
- first trooping of the color to some people it will seem absolutely ridiculous but there is nothing that
- 1:29
- fills you with as much [Music] pride this is the King's
- 1:37
- [Music]
- 1:44
- Guard the seven regiments of the household division face one of their most pressurized periods in decades as
- 1:52
- they prepare for King Charles's coronation which is now just under a week
- 1:58
- away on the day the king's escort and personal bodyguard will be the household
- 2:04
- Cavalry major Ed vanderland is the officer chosen to ride alongside the
- 2:10
- king's Carriage there's really no bigger event than the coronation itself so for me it is a huge
- 2:18
- Honor by the front return
- 2:25
- swords for Ed being the king's escort is a family
- 2:31
- [Music] tradition The Old Man spent a full
- 2:37
- career in that house car naturally gave me an inclination to look at it at the front when you move off from that
- 2:43
- movement walk on okay back in the day if you had a family link that was almost a golden ticket into a regiment but I
- 2:49
- think now it is more of a meritocracy today Ed will try to live up to the family name by Leading his troop to
- 2:56
- Buckingham Palace you slow down everyone going to Cone Ro for a time honored
- 3:02
- ceremony which officially marks the countdown to the coronation it's the issuing of a
- 3:09
- ceremonial flag or standard which will be presented in person by King Charles
- 3:15
- the standard reflects all the Bassel oners that the regiment has been through you have it sort of 300 odd year history
- 3:21
- so there's history literally woven into the fabric it has the new c3r Cipher on it
- 3:27
- so it reflects the new king and we'll be carrying that standard the
- 3:32
- coronation to receive this honor from the King Ed will be wearing his ornate
- 3:37
- household Cavalry uniform so this is some of the ceremonial uniform that we
- 3:43
- wear for the big state events this is an officer trunic hence the ridiculous amount of gold uh braid that's on it his
- 3:48
- ceremonial dress is worth over £30,000 I'm accountable for this kit so
- 3:54
- if I lose it don't tell the wife but um yeah then I pay for it so um
- 4:00
- yeah so it's quite yeah bit of pressure our helmet the key thing is about the
- 4:05
- onion on the top so you want it to be nice and tight in the middle a nice tight onion and then running down nice
- 4:11
- and straight down the back of the helmet you don't want a big fluffy plume or anything like that cuz that looks looks unsm smart our carasses you call these
- 4:17
- the the fish scales the idea behind these that in battle if someone's trying to get you with a sword that the sword will get caught in the in the scale
- 4:24
- itself and and not not go upwards our cross belt and cou box so this back back
- 4:29
- in the day the house Cav you could put sort of key messages in there to to ride forward to whichever Commander needed it
- 4:35
- I think even this carou box that is thousands of
- 4:42
- pounds to the untrained eye Ed looks like he's unnatural on a horse but
- Horseback Duty Preparations
- 4:47
- appearances can be deceptive I learned to ride a horse about 2 months
- 4:53
- ago yep feels a bit [Music] unreal this is the first major parade
- 4:59
- that I'm going to be involved with so I'll be lying if I said I wasn't a little bit [Music]
- 5:11
- apprehensive Ed and the rest of his troop set off for their date with the
- 5:16
- [Music] king I think it's a mix of emotions
- 5:23
- really exciting obviously this is my first s major parade I sort of try and just break it
- 5:29
- down into different manageable chunks and I'll focus on the next thing rather than kind of panic too much there is nowhere to hide in front of his
- 5:36
- majesty he has a plan to keep his nerves in check but he's not sure if his horse
- 5:42
- got the memo he was just a little bit Twitchy in the for court of ban
- 5:47
- [Music] Palace so his mag the king you presents the standard to us in the qu angle of
- 5:54
- Bucking Palace which was a hugely moving moment for us you very intimate
- 6:01
- the king then touches the standard which gives it royal [Music]
- 6:06
- descent you can hear just sort of the odd crack of the of the gravel as a as a horse as whove moved slightly but other
- 6:11
- than that it was sort deathly silence in there so so really [Music]
- 6:17
- moving the new standard is paraded back to Cavalry HQ to be received in a
- 6:23
- private ceremony pring Center
- 6:31
- at the back of our minds is the fact that in a few days we are going down the mile with Millions if not billions of
- 6:36
- people watching either in person or on TV will so we're going from a very small
- 6:43
- intimate parade to the largest parade that we will see in any of our [Music]
- 6:57
- lifetimes at ARF podium Garrison major the time is 12:58 ever
- 7:03
- Garrison sergeant major Vern Stokes is organizing the biggest parade the country has seen for a
- 7:10
- generation and time is not on his side zero g major start the clip track
- 7:17
- over in today's Final dress rehearsal he has one last chance to maneuver 4,000
- 7:23
- troops around the problematic corner at Trafalga Square
- 7:30
- [Music]
- 7:36
- quick the previous rehearsal was marked as Mission failure okay this needs to be
- 7:43
- pretty Swift to get everybody in as the gold State coach played by a brown
- 7:48
- minibus was forced to stop what we can't do is have a
- 7:53
- constantiner effect and slow down the gold State coach and therefore the king that doesn't have the ability to stop
- 7:58
- and start it's just to heavy for the horses to do that one by one every regiment
- 8:05
- successfully navigates the corner but ver takes a deep breath as
- 8:11
- bringing up the rear are the foot guards who struggled during the last
- 8:20
- rehearsal not better the mile long parade of 4,000
- 8:28
- troops makes around the awkward corner and to Vern's relief the king's Carriage
- 8:34
- is still moving this is now the rear The Possession just coming into view shortly so so far so good the first hurdle on
- 8:41
- this second rehearsal is is is good good signs okay when all five of you mark time you speeded the time up and now
- 8:48
- you're a step ahead of the band but Vern now has a daunting new challenge getting
- 8:54
- the whole parade through the gates of Buckingham Palace Gardens in under 7 minutes
- 9:01
- [Music]
- 9:08
- minutes every second counts if the newly crowned King is to be seen stood waiting
- Intense Parade Rehearsal
- 9:14
- for his own troops and today they're already running 2 minutes late 2 and 1
- 9:21
- half minutes left we stopped down there but they've got all that space to move
- 9:26
- into they stopped completely down there this lot they so that's just the mount
- 9:32
- that's here massive so then doing that everybody's oh it's failed it's not
- 9:40
- working three CH for his majesty the king I can see a lot of shattered
- 9:46
- soldiers that have worked their socks off today hey but it's been a really useful day
- 9:53
- and we've learned a lot from it I don't have too many of those we might have to get stunt shelter
- 10:00
- in for you for the rest of the week I've got some very good tweets a little bit Croy now but it's not the first time it's ever happened my voice will hold
- 10:07
- out it has to burn sore throat will be put to the test when he takes the whole
- 10:12
- parade to the capital for that one and only dress rehearsal in Just 2 days
- 10:23
- time with just 4 days to the coronation tonight as the nation sleeps the Capital
- 10:29
- will close down to allow Vern Stokes one final chance to get 4,000 troops
- 10:36
- Marching In Perfect Harmony the overnight rehearsal is really the opportunity for us to rehearse every
- 10:42
- aspect of what we want to deliver on Coronation Day so apart from daylight uh everything else should be exactly the
- 10:49
- [Music] same it's not just Vern who's feeling
- 10:55
- the pinch in nights Bridge the king's
- 11:00
- personal escort is also Under Pressure I can do this but it's really
- 11:07
- unelegant um you don't mind breing through the having only learned to ride a horse two months ago has a hell of an
- 11:13
- opportunity to get the final bits right before the day itself tonight's rehearsal is Ed's last chance to be
- 11:20
- match fit for the biggest day in his career so tonight's the it is the gold State coach that be the first time um I
- 11:28
- would have ridden alongside that going be quite quite an
- 11:33
- experience it's Ed's job to protect the king's fouron carriage made from guilt
- 11:39
- wood and covered in a thin layer of gold leaf it's transported British monarchs
- 11:45
- since 1760 and its value is beyond
- 11:50
- measure I'll be lying if I said I wasn't a little bit apprehensive yet God forbid but should there be an incident on the carriage the sovereign's escort of the
- 11:57
- House of cry will essentially form a ring a steal around the carriage and prevent any threats coming towards the
- 12:04
- monar further down the pecking order is cavy Soldier Alex lockart who is also
- 12:10
- facing his first ceremony on Horseback tonight is leading up to the biggest thing I've been involved in so I'm
- 12:16
- looking forward to it probably a little bit nervous as well but you know I think that's a good thing shows that you care
- Drill Training and Inspections
- 12:22
- that you're ready for it so at the end of the day you're in the eye of the public so any mistake you know it's not
- 12:29
- it's not missed all my family are very excited as well my little girl she's 4 years old I
- 12:35
- don't think she fully understands it yet but she she just calls me the blue Soldier where we're blues and Royals we
- 12:41
- wear blue oh mate so TI in your own time
- 12:48
- Denver tonight's dress rehearsal must run like clockwork someone to help me put this
- 12:54
- every soldier's conduct and performance will be under close scrutiny is it
- 12:59
- really tight is it God Rey can you shut this K
- 13:08
- box breae in it's doable it is doable you reord it
- 13:18
- [Music] is there we go thank you very much
- 13:25
- right there we go hey works thank you my friends oh yes extremely
- 13:34
- TI at their HQ in Windsor the Cold Stream guards are also
- 13:40
- getting ready for the big day tonight will be as close as it will be on the day so it's important that we do a h
- 13:46
- like this on the m just so on the day we can be as good as possible do tonight they'll be wearing their bare
- 13:54
- skins on the 600 p.m. train to watero but first they must pass an inspection
- 14:01
- by commanding officer Fred Wells that needs to come up a little bit youve got a chalk
- 14:08
- Mark it's a huge pressure to be commanding the Battalion it'll be the biggest parade that I've ever taken part
- 14:14
- in I think it's the biggest ceremonial occasion that the country's ever witnessed so I'll be feeling the
- 14:19
- pressure on the day to make sure it's perfect for the king you started sweating already this
- 14:28
- is a bad sign what are you going to be like after several several hours of this the guards have just returned from two
- 14:35
- months combat training in Kenya everyone will have lost a lot of weight in Kenya
- 14:40
- and we need to make sure that our tunics are still looking Immaculate for for the parade pair of retro boots there get
- 14:47
- this from a vintage fancy dress shop help each other out look each other over as well as yourselves to make sure that
- 14:54
- you're in good order [Music]
- 15:00
- having passed Fred's [Applause]
- 15:07
- inspection the Cold Stream guards along with 4,000 troops from every regiment in
- 15:13
- the British army are heading to the capital for the final rehearsal to make sure they reach Perfection on the big
- 15:22
- day pretty packed I think we probably need a few more carriages to be honest
- 15:30
- see how tonight goes but uh there's a lot more practice obviously to be done make sure that we get it perfect for
- 15:37
- day as long as everyone's kits all right at the other end I just don't want to get to the other end of my boots are all
- 15:42
- scratched [Music]
- 15:50
- up the hordes of passengers coming through the gates tonight at waterl
- 15:55
- station are definitely not heading to an office Park
- 16:01
- [Music]
- 16:07
- this is a first for all of us I've never heard of large bodies of
- 16:14
- troops going anywhere by train other than going to war here' got literally
- 16:20
- thousands of troops congregating in order to march to Wedington Barracks well it's an incredible
- 16:26
- challenge to get all of those hard forces personel in cuz they're not just coming from one one location they're coming from in five different locations
- 16:33
- from across the south of England so that's quite a challenge getting the morning to watero in the controlled space shared with the public as well
- 16:40
- we're very early into the night so uh we got quite a bit left to do it's quite a buzz in the air I think people are
- 16:46
- people are thrilled to be doing something totally out of the norm we
- 16:52
- just need to get going now Fred's soldiers will join the rest
- 16:57
- of the foot guard regiments at Wellington Barracks before taking their Parade
- Overnight Parade Rehearsal
- 17:02
- start positions C guards and AR guards
- 17:13
- sh by the right quick [Music]
- 17:29
- it's a real privilege to be part of the overnight rehearsals when you're marching past Big Ben in Westminster and you see the clock
- 17:35
- illuminated there's something quite surreal about that it's pretty epic to
- 17:40
- lead the Battalion from water station to Wellington Barracks visibility with the
- 17:46
- bear skin is not great at the best of times but when it's dark it's even worse I wanted to look left and right to see
- 17:52
- you know the amazing sight of the river Tams trying to remain smart and rigid I
- 17:57
- stayed facing my front but it's very special to do it and doing it in the
- 18:03
- real place makes people stand a bit taller knowing that this is our one chance to
- 18:08
- get it right ahead of Saturday the coronation procession is
- 18:15
- one of the biggest in British history it's a mile long with over 4,000 troops
- 18:22
- 250 horses and 19 military bands so I'll start the proceedings for the coronation
- 18:29
- procession I March near the gold State coach and near the near the king they've all moved into position for Vern to give
- 18:37
- the command coration posession
- 18:43
- [Music]
- 19:00
- [Applause] so we try and rehearse every single
- 19:06
- concept to time to prove the fact that it's going to work on Coronation Day you
- 19:12
- wouldn't know any difference apart from the absence of the king and the Queen at the moment the rehearsal is falling
- 19:18
- short there was a few things that went wrong some people went the wrong way around the Queen Victoria Memorial at
- 19:23
- buing and Palace gate the commonwealth flags were flanking possession group 2 they should have gone and embedded
- 19:29
- themselves into the Street Liners to keep the full width of the mile available for everybody was behind them but they got a little bit confused and
- 19:35
- they were too far forward the error has a dramatic effect on some of the division's
- 19:41
- horses sometimes the new horses cuz they're not used to the parades they may be more um likely to Spook or kick out
- 19:49
- so then when we were forming intersections from our division we didn't have the room to fully do their
- 19:55
- maneuver the regiments have had their one shot to rehearsing the entire
- 20:00
- procession and in 3 days time the world will be watching and there will be no
- 20:06
- room for
- 20:12
- failure behind the public glare of delivering the biggest ceremonial events in a
- 20:19
- lifetime the household division actively trained for the real and present danger
- Royal Escort Strategy
- 20:24
- of going to war in their dual role the King's Guard offer a critical Lifeline to the
- 20:31
- Ukrainian Army by FASTT tracking new officer recruits here in the UK 1 two 3
- 20:38
- 4 five six items here just hanging around why we don't want anyone to know
- 20:43
- we're here Irish guards officer Jack North is teaching life-saving skills to
- 20:49
- a platoon this area is a company one platoon okay for security purposes their
- 20:56
- identities must be protected it wasn't more than 12 months ago we were on state
- 21:01
- ceremonial duties as the Irish guards uh myself receiving the the new colors from
- 21:07
- the the now Prince of Wales fast forward it's 12 months time and the present day and we're in the middle of Sal plane
- 21:14
- really highlights the uh the versatility of the household
- 21:19
- division when you get into this building here you'll be in a really good position to provide fire support onto this
- 21:26
- building Jack is preparing the recruits for one of the most Savage forms of
- 21:31
- combat Urban Warfare once two platoon have launched onto building 72 you will
- 21:38
- launch onto building 79 in just one week's time Jack's recruits will face
- 21:44
- the brutality of War for real the platoon Commander's main effort is getting into this building okay when
- 21:51
- they head to the Ukrainian front line to help recapture Russian occupied
- 21:57
- cities [Music] we need to back to Ukraine as soon as
- 22:03
- possible because uh we have a lot of knowledge how to use tactic how to use
- 22:09
- different weapon systems Sensei is a 34-year-old it
- 22:15
- engineer turned Woodby officer he's completed nine out of 10
- 22:20
- weeks of the platoon Commander course and is training to command up to 30
- 22:25
- troops in preparation for the urban combat he'll face back
- 22:30
- home I have no um military experience I was it engineer at International IT
- 22:38
- company so really I had nice job we waiting and fighting uh for
- 22:45
- finish this total hell in our land each
- 22:51
- night a rocket attacked our country uh it affected all our life economic budget
- 22:58
- usual life a lot of fam has been broke my girlfriend my family my young brother
- 23:06
- really um I'm here in Ukrainian Army to protect
- 23:11
- them tonight sensei's platoon will begin their final Urban combat
- 23:21
- exercise so this is Shu and Street um not a particularly Ukrainian name but uh they've been given the
- 23:28
- mission to clear and Destroy any enemy in these buildings along here we tried our best to kind of add a lot of rubble
- 23:34
- burnt out vehicles that try and represent what they could face within uh within Ukraine at the
- 23:41
- minute these training exercises are designed to give the recruits the upper hand when they return to Ukrainian
- 23:48
- cities to fight for real
- 23:55
- [Music]
- 24:01
- Urban combat aims to remove the enemy from
- 24:08
- buildings and hold them from a counter attack it's critical that Sensei and his
- 24:15
- fellow recruits demonstrate strong organizational and communication
- 24:21
- [Music] skills how's it going it's for
- 24:28
- very hard Mission because attack is a really it's
- 24:37
- terrified because a lot of guys we need to understand where we are need a good
- 24:42
- communication with our commander and a lot of things to
- 24:48
- do really hard they launch on to the wrong
- 24:54
- building with the first part of the exercise over Jack demands the recruits
- 24:59
- raise their game there was a lack of understanding as to where lead section
- 25:04
- was for quite some time I think that mainly was due to the pon Commander just being a little bit too far back from the
- 25:09
- situation as in just a few days time they'll be putting Theory into practice
- 25:15
- when they return home to fight for their [Music]
- 25:25
- country the biggest National event in a lifetime is now just a few days
- Ceremonial Uniform and Personal Stories
- 25:35
- away today the King's Guard top brass have gathered next to Buckingham Palace
- 25:40
- to welcome a very special
- 25:46
- visitor to ensure coronation preparations are fully on track the King's sister is coming to meet the
- 25:53
- household division princess Roy is the most senior of all of the colonels of the seven
- 26:00
- regiments of the high division so she came to see a handful of us to check
- 26:05
- that things were in order for the coronation itself the Princess Royal is introduced
- 26:11
- to the senior members from each regiment involved in her brother's coronation we
- 26:17
- read about them in the papers we see them on TV but actually meet any member of the royal family up close and
- 26:23
- personal is a real honor all practicing in these different places the princess Ro's a delight to
- 26:30
- chat to she really understands the Army and understands what soldiers do and has
- 26:36
- a real Affinity with the troops of the household Division and fresh back from
- 26:43
- Kenya yes we we were track tracking it Loosely KN this is moving in the
- 26:49
- distance princess an was very interesting in the fact that we had come straight back from Kenya and recognized
- 26:56
- the huge respons osy we have of maintaining our dual role of being excellent field soldiers and excellent
- 27:05
- ceremonial soldiers and for us it's a a huge morale boost one last
- 27:17
- one every King's Guard Soldier must fulfill both sides of their
- 27:24
- [Music] Duty for Irish guards officer Jack North
- 27:30
- it means pushing his Ukrainian recruits to Breaking Point to make them combat
- 27:35
- [Music] ready they've been engaged in urban combat throughout the
- 27:42
- night you want to keep putting the pressure on them because it'd be easy to just sit here and let them do whatever
- 27:49
- they like but I'm there to add elements of difficulty there's about to be an
- 27:54
- attack launched onto their position that's just about to go off in 20 seconds so we need to
- 28:00
- [Music]
- 28:06
- move they received an overwhelming Force what we're hoping now they start to withdraw uh and then call for
- 28:14
- support so their job is to slowly withdraw through the building and trying
- 28:19
- to cause as many casualties as possible always very hard however we are
- 28:25
- still keep alive and uh so yeah keep
- 28:30
- going glad it kind of commos in the way that we were kind of hoping it would it's a marked
- 28:38
- improvement Sensei got on well he's an incredibly intelligent individual he's able to really understand a problem and
- 28:46
- then provide a effective plan we're really leaning on him heavily to help bring on the other individuals which is
- 28:52
- great you know you kind of almost have an embedded instructor within their within their peers the Ukrainian Roots
- 28:58
- have finally completed the FastTrack platoon Commander
- 29:07
- course absorbing one year's worth of vital combat knowledge in just 10
- 29:17
- weeks yeah I think emotions running running pretty high this is the the culmination of the course so we've got
- 29:23
- uh some certificates to give out [Music] [Applause]
- 29:29
- there'll be a Ukrainian choir to sing for them to send them off and a priest as well that's going to
- 29:35
- sort of bless them before they head back to Ukraine it's a chance for the UK
- 29:42
- instructors to say goodbye and it's also an opportunity for them to celebrate the fact that they've passed a difficult course and they've shown that they are
- 29:48
- capable of doing the job back over in Ukraine speaking on behalf of all of the British instructors here we wish we
- 29:55
- could be on the ground with you in Ukraine fighting ourselves side by side so please keep going and we'll be
- 30:02
- thinking of you from here so well done and slav [Music] [Applause]
- 30:08
- [Music] you Sensei and his fellow
- Ukrainian Officer Training
- 30:14
- recruits must now deal with the cold reality of heading home to defend their
- 30:22
- country go well okay my dream we have a peace in Ukraine
- 30:28
- no war no Rockets no missiles when I meet with my girlfriend and
- 30:35
- family hug kisses of course B nice food
- 30:41
- when war will finish I propose and for sure I um she will say
- 30:49
- [Music]
- 30:56
- yes heading off back to their their home country to go and fight a war I'm really really proud of the guys the effort they
- 31:02
- put in the willingness to learn at the end where they're going some of them might not make it the team
- 31:09
- know that but they're they're very yeah very [Music]
- 31:20
- proud good morning and thank you for joining us here at an expectant Buckingham Palace on this defining day
- 31:27
- for King and the country in the capital a nation prepares
- 31:33
- for the biggest National Party in Generations the eyes of the world are
- 31:39
- firmly focused on London I think at this stage there's nothing I can personally
- 31:45
- do to fix anything that could possibly go wrong now because we've done our rehearsals we know what we've got to do
- 31:51
- after 6 months of Planning by the household division the day of the king's coronation has finally arrived
- 31:58
- [Music] as the guards commute into
- 32:04
- London the household Cavalry prepare their horses for the big day my alarm
- 32:10
- was about half full so a little bit earlier than normal I think you know
- you've got the adrenaline going so you're just ready to get up and crap on you don't want to be late for Trooper
- Alex lockart it's the most prestigious day of his career today we'll be on
- Horseback for about 6 hours AG it's quite a long time but I'm sure the day will fly by before we know it will all
- be over I'm just putting on all the tack
- now it's bit tricky sometimes as you can see it's just falling off he doesn't
- spook that easily he doesn't bite or anything as well at the end of the day it's an animal so no matter how many
- times you train it's you're always going to get a reaction so some point even
- from the best of qus so I have about 15 minutes to get
- 33:06
- changed you get changed and then you have to work your way down in all your full State kit and
- your boots walking down the stairs isn't isn't the easiest of tasks where the
- boot comes up quite high on the knee um there's not much flexion so you kind of find yourself walking down in a quite an
- awkward manner sometimes you can catch both of your Spurs together and you there's nothing
- you can do about it you just you you just fall [Music]
- over oh hoping to stay upright is Trumpeter
- Andy Jackson my role will be to sound the raw salute as the king gets out of the cage
- and goes to Westminster Abby someone's going to do it it's a
- front and center rle that I never thought I would get the opportunity to do hopefully I'll be riding the straight
- 34:05
- line no promises in 10 minutes time Andy will be center stage and a key player
- more than anything the weather Gods need to be kind if it rains my horse will get
- cold wet and miserable he'll Shuffle more and the trumpet mouthpiece is going to be freezing so hopefully the rain
- will keep off [Music]
- it's the 6th of May 2023 and the culmination of 6mon ceremonial preparation for the King's
- Guard in under two hours time King Charles and queen Camila will ride from
- here to be crowned at Westminster Abbey in a service laced with ancient Legacy
- and studded with [Music] symbolism thousands of members of his
- Majesty's armed forces are preparing to escort him to and from the
- 35:05
- ABY at 10:45 a.m. 400 million people are
- watching as King Charles is taken from Buckingham Palace to his
- [Applause]
- coronation riding on the back back wheel of the king's Carriage major Ed vanderland leads the sovereign's
- escort you can see straight into the carage you can see the Expressions on his Majesty's face he's responsible for
- protecting the king and delivering him safely I think it's fair to say I probably one of the best seats in the
- House although would caveat is probably not the most comfortable also not feeling so comfortable is one of Ed's team fighting
- to keep his horse from causing a PR disaster he were sort of veing left and
- right just that sight of the crowds with coupled with a noise just overwhelmed their horses did get a bit
- 36:06
- excited yeah I mean that's always a problem with large crowds the public was so noisy
- supporting the king as he made his way to Westminster Abby it's just an incredible
- experience the king is delivered to Westminster
- [Music] Abbey we did arrive a a couple of minutes early but um it's better to be
- early than to be late as the world watches the 2-hour
- service the king's guard's moment of History has
- arrived all 4,000 troops now Gather in line ready to escort the newly crowned
- King back to Buckingham
- Palace inside Wellington Barracks Fred wells's Cold Stream guards prepare for
- Procession Day: Guard's Final Test
- 37:01
- their Landmark moment we're just about to go out on PR so this is a big moment
- now can't second left on the stairs when the king comes out and steps
- into his carriage and can then step off uh with all of us marching ahead of
- him I'm not going to lie little bit of nerves are kicking in now I mean we're probably minutes from stepping off we
- know there's quite a crowd outside and we'll all be a little bit damp our bare skins will be a bit
- wet get cover off three rounds here we go at 12:30 precisely Fred leads his
- soldiers out of Wellington Barracks to take their Parade start position Street
- guards and IR guards by their
- right while the old stream guards take up their place near the rear of the parade Brigade major James Shaw moves
- 38:04
- into his exclusive spot so I'll be leading their majesties back from westmin Abby to Bucking Palace so I'll
- be at the front of the parade around a mile in front of the gold State coach with 4,000 troops behind
- me with James up front Vern is back at Westminster ABY to officially start the
- coronation procession I waited for the service to finish we had a flag operator telling me
- that their majesties were just emerging from the ABY giving me a signal then to start the procession and at that moment
- there I gave the word of command coration
- procession quick [Music]
- [Applause] [Music] [Applause]
- [Music] bar I'm very pleased to say that
- everybody step top at the right [Music]
- 39:03
- time but the Roar from 100,000 Spectators overwhelms one officer's
- horse one horse did get spooked but that's why the barriers are there and the rider of the horse actually did
- really well stay on his b skin fell off I think in holding it maybe the bare skin was by the horse's eye did exactly
- what he should have done he reacted accordingly and yeah rejoined the procession T ver and the entire
- division's relief even the dreaded corner at Trafalga square is negotiated
- perfectly as we turn left under ad Mor AR and you can see Bucking Palace in the distance everyone Rose a few inches and
- their chest swelled with with enormous
- [Music] Pride going up the mount I won't lie we were all extremely wet everything was
- absolutely sick [Music]
- 40:12
- through Trumpeter Andy Jackson is riding his White Horse directly behind the
- king's Carriage my horse could at any moment decide he's not happy with
- something that's absolutely my biggest fear it was a point where he took personal
- offense to a flag but I managed to keep it under control and not go crashing into cour major Li bird in the standard
- which would have been a career ending move [Music] probably it wasn't the most relaxed
- rides and there was a point I was just praying for Bucking Palace to get a bit closer in the moment you're
- concentrating a lot because every time there was that wave of noise the horses reacted to it
- [Music] after perfectly executing the 3,000
- 41:03
- steps from Westminster Abbey the parade files into Buckingham Palace
- Coronation Day Reflection
- 41:08
- Gardens I was at the rear of the gold State coach as close as I was to the newly uh Crown King and Queen it was a
- really proud moment for me being able to be that [Music]
- close with the whole parade assembled in front of the king Vern initiates an
- iconic coronation moment that will echo down the line of History three for his
- majesty the king and her majesty the
- queen it was so loud the echo was almost louder than the three chers which I had
- to wait for for that to dissipate before I then went on to the next
- chair I remember looking directly at the king and he was overjoyed and you could
- see a immediately what it meant to him that Roar was incredible and I was a
- 42:03
- bit worried that my voice wouldn't carry to the back of the garden cuz it it's vast the three cheers for me is a special moment and it will stay with me
- for Life the noise was deafening from the
- public the cheers from the people that had filled them out it wafted over buing the
- [Music] palace very strange 6 months of hard
- work gone in 6 hours of
- delivery I think what we deliver in terms of State ceremonial pumping ceremony it brings together a nation it
- makes everybody reflect on what binds us together and not what drives us
- apart after delivering a coronation the world will never forget the household
- Cavalry right back into barracks [Music]
- with soggy back sides but full of Pride definitely buz in yeah um time to
- 43:04
- celebrate now I think mugs please do not break any of these mugs yes sir and then
- from there get take so drinks or I'll call it you want
- one I haven't finished writing school what two and a half months ago now um to be on a coronation I can't really put it
- into words not too far behind getting married and having children the atmosphere has been building down here for the whole week I could not be
- proud of to be asili with with these guys so yeah unbelievely happy how's everyone
- feeling pretty a yeah you should be just lastly look guys I'm incredibly proud of
- all of you it's a really really well done today yes this is the start of the season I know haven't got much time off
- but enjoy what you can try and Sak in some of the wider atmosphere in the country so well done enjoy a drink
- there's a mug Happy Days [Music]
- 44:01
- next time a trooping the color Heatwave causes Havoc for guards on Parade I woke
- up 2 minutes later in an ambulance going to Beed two traine tank
- soldiers face a make or break final
- test what are you doing and a class of Cavalry rookies come on D struggle to
- learn to ride t you are doing nothing on top of this horse right now
- [Music]
