The Trump admin abducted Mahmoud Khalil. Let’s respond with the kind of outcry that brings him home.

Peter Burgess COMMENTARY

I have had a lot of sympathy for jews since I was a teenager and learned about the holocaust. But over time, I have become more and more annoyed by the entitlement that now seems to be the jewish right! Perhaps I knoe more about the Middle East than most people in the United States ... actually a very low bar! I have a few very principled friends wo are Jewish and live in Israel And I have American friends who are Jewish But I do have a problem with the way Israel has handled the palestinian situation, and esspecially in recent years with Netenyahu at the tope of Israeli politics.

Win Without War

We caught a glimpse of the world Trump and Stephen Miller are trying to build when Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested Mahmoud Khalil last Saturday, Peter.

Despite Khalil’s legal resident status as a green card holder and constitutional rights as a person in the United States, he has been detained and is currently facing deportation for exercising his right to free speech.

Neither his wife — who is eight months pregnant — nor his attorney were able to speak with him or informed of where he was taken in the days following his arrest. Reports indicate he is currently detained at the Central Louisiana ICE Processing Center, which the ACLU has recently documented cruel and inhumane treatment.[1]

Since Khalil’s arrest, Trump and his MAGA cronies have taken to social media with a chilling message that this is only the beginning. Today, they are retaliating against pro-Palestinian activists, but make no mistake: They will not stop there. Everyone who opposes this administration and its policies is at risk — and that’s why it’s as important as ever that we join together to defend one another.

Peter, we will NOT allow this to become our new normal. It’s time to draw a line in the sand and rally together to oppose a U.S. president who would trample over our rights like a despot and demand Khalil’s return home.

Members of Congress are already speaking out, but we need more to join in and sustain this call. Will you add your name to the tens of thousands of others who are speaking out across the country to urge members of Congress to flex their authority to demand immediate answers and Khalil’s safe return NOW?

ACT NOW

Many may disagree with Khalil’s point of view but arresting anyone because of their views is terrible for our democracy.

Courts are starting to hear his case, but so far, he remains in detention awaiting an unclear fate, unsure of whether he’ll be home to see the birth of his child.

Khalil’s story is a terrifying reminder of how precarious our rights are, particularly under a government like the Trump regime. Incredibly, even amidst the threat of retaliation, tens of thousands of people are speaking out.

All this energy has already created crucial wins. First, a federal judge delayed Khalil’s deportation earlier this week. And amidst tremendous public outrage, a growing number of members of Congress are bravely speaking out to demand his release.

But, Peter, we have to keep pushing until Khalil is home.

Here’s how we can make it happen. Signing this petition (and you should sign it, even if you’ve signed others that are similar!), triggers an automatic message to your members of Congress telling them that you’ve signed. But that’s not all: Our note to lawmakers also includes the total number of people who’ve signed, so if you don’t think your Rep. will listen, you’ll still help pile on urgently needed pressure to one who will. So please, sign now.

Add your name to send members of Congress a crucial message to join in and keep up the fight.

Khalil’s case goes to the heart of the rule of law crisis we face in this country, and the chance that we face similar fights in the coming weeks and months is high. We urge all those who celebrate freedom of speech, due process, and the fundamental rights we are all afforded, to stay committed to this fight, no matter who is at risk.

Even a president can’t do his worst if champions in Congress, movement partners, and people like us stay united.

Thank you for working for peace,

The Win Without War team
