My experience is that there is a huge resistance to change ... at any rate the substantial material change that is needed.
It is some 65 years since I graduated from a Cambridge University education, and in my 20s chose to broaden my knowledge as much as deepening my knowledge. Most of my contemporaries were deepening while I was broadening. Both are needed, valuable and significantly different!
With regard to engineering and technology, my undergraduate training in the Cambridge Engineering Department was a superb foundation for everything I would do in the next many decades. I laugh at my own understanding of technical possiblities as they were in 1960 compared to what they have become more than 60 years later in the 2020s.
At one point in my career I was working in a company that was a technology leader at the time and working to get 6 transistors onto a silicon chip ... now, 50+ years later we are getting billons of transistor (equivalents) onto a silicon chip.
The technology to power the world of 2025 has progressed in an amazing way in the 65+ years of my adult lifetime.
But mot so much the way people live their lives, and run the companies, institutions, organizations and governments on a strategic and day to day basis.
Getting this upgraded is a huge opportunity.

alan can i intro you to peter?- we've been trying to share with cambrdige america and our alma maters, our expereinces of whats wrong with accounting ; since 2007 or earlier; i say 2007 as that was when my father The Economist's Norman Macrae started sampling 2000 muhammad yunus social business books (bot saw subprime as likely to disinvest in youth for a decade which it has) and I found peter to distribute in new york; while i tried to do mainly dc glasgow paris and tokyo
peter can confirm his story but he got a chartered accounting qualification 1960s befpre mbas existed, worked at coopers & lybrand london for a few years but graviiated to new york and maoinly engineering companies- where his office was in avenue of americas 2 minute walk from cambrdige in america, but out of which he did increasing accounting for world bank engoineering projects in africa and india etc
(my own expereimnce was pwc headqyarters london 1990s buti was on consultancy side trying to imtroduce intangibles audit)

animating great talks at cambridge new york who i note your twitter group refers to; also there was one adminstrator at cambridge in america who had done that for decades and knew everyone
(inclidentally assuming i have the right janeway - his webpage mentions inet - i know pretty well robert johnson in NY who was appomted to lead that when soros open spociety was still a big deal philanthropically
anyway the idea that the only metric global board rooms are ruled by is what the big 5 produce horrifies me and peter for many reasons
also two people i believe need to be linked in are hannah fry at my old alma mater damtp as she knows what hassabis is doing with biotech

as peter and I daily see agendas narrowing under trump, perhaps only cambridge can save the english speaking world ... and marry ai engineers and accounting to make each other safe and transparently trustworthy?
