Peter Burgess COMMENTARY

This text appeared in my 'feed' today. It is written in English, but the meaning is unclear ... and for me makes no logical sense and does not fit with my understanding of geopolitics in general and Trump in particular!

Maybe the writer is sending a wrong story line because of language and translation ... but maybe not. It is impossible to know which it is.

I have not 'deleted' the message, but kept it as something of a warning about modern misinformation and the huge danger it poses!

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte agreed with US President Donald Trump regarding Greenland, particularly on the issue of defense, Bild reports.

'When it comes to defense in the Arctic, Trump is right. What I think is very good is that the Prime Minister of Denmark immediately began negotiations with President Trump. Essentially, it was about the high relevance of defense in the far north,' he said.

According to Rutte, this applies not only to Greenland but also to Iceland, Norway, Finland, Sweden, and Canada.

'We all need to work together to protect these territories. And Trump is right,' emphasized the NATO Secretary General.

Trump's position on Greenland

US President Donald Trump had expressed his desire to buy Greenland during his first presidential term. After winning the 2024 presidential election, Trump has not abandoned this idea.

Recently, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed Trump's intentions regarding Greenland. According to him, Trump is seriously focused on buying Greenland, which is currently part of Denmark, and it is 'his priority.'

Meanwhile, NATO plans to offer a compromise to US President Donald Trump regarding Greenland. The Alliance hopes this will ease tensions surrounding the island discussions.
