I was surprised by this search result for ESG and Real Estate as of December 2023

In the last 6 months there have been many changes to the algorithms being used to handle search queries. I cannot pretend to know much about the structure of the algorithms, but I am doing my best to understand how these algorithms are changing the output from any searches I do.

For me, one of the issues that annoys me is that ESG has becone a 'go to' element of corporate performance. To me, this makes no sense and is nothing more than an incoherent talking point most llikely designed to divert analytical interest in what would really matter in reporting corporate performance.

For me, corporate performance should have three elements:
  • Economic performance (profit);
  • Social performanse; and
  • Environmental performanc.
The fact that the stock markets and the corporate sector during the past 40 years have successfully concentrated their efforts on profit maximization for corporate entities at the expense of society and the environment is a problem that needs to be addressed.
ESG avoids this issue very effectively .. and in my view this is 'no accident'

Many companies are scared stiff of a rigorousw analysis of their socio-enviro-economic performance which they know to be significantly worse than the conventional financial profit performance. To my mind this explains why ESG reporting has become so popular!
