1 big thing: Carlson ouster stuns conservatives ... TPB immediate response!!!!!!!

Peter Burgess COMMENTARY
This news may well have stunned the 'MAGA' world, but is has also been a big surprise for everyone that follows news and current events. No surprise ... but I was not a 'follower' of Tucker Carlson, but thought of him as a 'powerful evil man who was driven by extreme egotism, power and money' and a super fit for the Murdoch misinformation driven media machine in the uSA, Fox News.

Increasingly I have been thinking about the role of the 'media' in driving the world's socio-enviro-economic system and have come away with the interim conclusions that the media had become a dangerous co-conspiritor in the decline of democracy with nobody ... no organization ... no leaders ... standing up and calling out the dangerous situation. Rather the 'leadership class' in general has been taking advantage of the situation and corralling as much money wealth as they can without 'giving a damn' about their own role in damaging the system.

It is fashionable to put blame for the poor overall socio-enviro-economic performance over the past 40 years on the 'common man' ... but it is much more a systemic problem driven by rather few powerful people and their enablers.

Fox News and the other Murdoch controlled news organizations around the world have been a part of the universe of enablers along the lines that were only a dream back in the days of Richard Nixon who sowed the seeds of 'political media misinformation' and the rise of people in media like Roger Ailes who had a big roile on the development of the Fox News political misinformation machine.

The media landscape has changed a lot in the last 50 years, not all of it for the better. My impressive was that people like Walter Kronkite took their role in news propagation very seriously and would only report verified facts. Being first and being wrong was not part of his modus operandi. Nor, being the most profitable was not part of his workplace. But being right was a top priority.

So the current news is that Tucker Carlson has been separated from Fox News. I do not have answers to 'Why' he has been separated and 'What' it really means. It might be a change for the better ... but I am not hlding my breath.

⚡ Situational awareness: Fulton County's district attorney told law enforcement to prepare for 'charging decisions' between July 11 and Sept. 1 in the investigation of Trump-backed efforts to overturn Georgia's 2020 election.

Primetime host Tucker Carlson's abrupt firing from Fox News has sent shock waves throughout the political and media ecosystem, driving a wedge between the conservative movement and the biggest platform in cable news.

Why it matters: Carlson's massive influence is tied to the same populist, right-wing forces that former President Trump harnessed in his hostile takeover of the Republican Party. His voice will continue to play a role in the 2024 GOP primary — though it's unclear in what form.
  • 'Tucker Carlson remade the right,' conservative activist Charlie Kirk said on his radio show this morning. 'He was more powerful than anybody else since the death of Rush Limbaugh in reshaping the right.'
  • Donald Trump Jr. called Carlson a 'once in a generation talent,' arguing that — outside of his father — 'no one understands the GOP base' better. 'This changes things permanently' Trump Jr. predicted.
Zoom in: One example of Carlson's unique influence over Republican politics — the top-rated host sent a questionnaire to current and potential presidential candidates last month challenging them on the U.S. role in the war in Ukraine.
  • Nine responded — including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who triggered intense backlash and an eventual walk-back after referring to the war as a 'territorial dispute.'
  • Some candidates had expected Carlson to send out additional surveys on key issues that have generated fault lines within the GOP.
Behind the scenes: A source familiar with the situation told Axios' Sara Fischer that Carlson's firing was not part of Fox's $787 million settlement agreement with Dominion Voting Systems, which uncovered a trove of embarrassing texts from Carlson during the discovery process.
  • 'We are very, very close to being able to ignore Trump most nights. I truly can’t wait,' Carlson texted a Fox employee, for example, two days before the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. 'I hate him passionately.'
  • But Fox is facing additional legal threats that could make Carlson a further liability, including a lawsuit from a former producer accusing him of promoting a hostile and vulgar work environment.
The intrigue: The L.A. Times reports the decision to fire Carlson came from Fox Corp. chairman Rupert Murdoch, who was concerned by the lawsuits and Carlson's championing of conspiracy theories about Jan. 6.
  • MAGA activists and politicians were quick to paint Carlson as a martyr, with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) accusing Fox of 'caving to the woke mob.'
  • It's unclear where Carlson goes from here, given his incendiary brand and reputation for alienating advertisers. But some conservatives have urged him to run for president.
