Mohamed, 6:43 PM Hello

I hope you're doing good. Just to keep in touch and updates about opportunities.

For instance I am hired by FAO to assist regionals offices in Nigeria and Zimbabwe for developing investment cases for specific value chains selected by the government.

Hope to keep in touch.

9:33 AM You seem to be doing some of the same things I used to do when I was a bit ... a lot younger! I did work for FAO and IFAD on a variety of assignments in the 1980s and 1990s including Nigeria but not Zimbabwe. Looking back, I find fault with the way the UN system structured their projects because rather few had ongoing impact. My criticism of the 'system' did not go down well with anyone in the UN system or at the World Bank, and while I am sure I was not always right, I certainly was not always wrong.

9:43 AM Before doing work for the development community ... UN, World Bank, etc. ... I was a very young corporate CFO and specialized in profit improvement where profitability was a problem. I was fairly good at improving profit performance because I had some considerable understanding of how a corporate system worked. My formal education was in engineering, in economics and in accountancy ... but not in business studies per se. As a young CFO in the late 1960s I got to be responsible for the first generation of corporate computers in business. I think i stayed up to speed with management technology until about 20 years ago ,,, and became merely an observer of what was emerging.

9:50 AM Things are getting interesting again with the recent deployment by OpenAI of AI and ChatGPT in a free form. Like social media before it, I am not at all sure it will be 'net-good' because of the dominance of profit and GDP as the dominant metrics in corporate and national management. We could do better, but with these metrics dominating everything, the results will not be good. I want to see us get beyond the management metrics for what I refer to as 'financialization' to something that has a coherent and comprehensive balance between society, environment and economics ... a practical implementation of metrics that work for the Triple Bottom Line ... People, Profit and Planet. ... that was promulgated back in the 1990s but never got much traction.

10:00 AM Anyway ... I am keeping busy. TrueValueMetrics.org (TVM) is keeping me occupied though I am slowing down. This website has a lot of webpages ,,, not particularly well organized but getting better and keeping me busy. Modern technology has the potential to improve productivity to such an extent that everyone on planet earth could have a decent quality of life but we don't get there because we waste so much effort on things that are profitable but have net negative value add when social and environmental impacts are taken into consideration. Conventional financial accountancy and corporate reporting only looks at financial profit ignoring all the externalities. TrueValueMetrics.org is a framework than brings the externalities into account. It is more like TBL than ESG. I am exited by what TVM could become ... but I know how little many big companies will like what it shows !!!!!!!!

All the best ... sorry about my long rant. Peter Burgess
