The United States is at the same time a wonderful place and a dismal place. There are good things and there are bad things. One of the bad things is the weaponization of bad information, and I am delighted to see CTIPA has a focus on addressing this. How can I help? I was born in the UK in 1940 and lived through WWII in London. I was too young to be scared, but I know my parents were. That war was won, but at a huge cost to the UK, less so for the USA. I got a good education, Blundell's and Cambridge. I studied engineering and economics at Cambridge, and then qualified as a Chartered Accountant in London with Cooper Brothers & Co which over time has morphed into PwC. But I also visited North America as a student in the summers of 1960 and 1961 getting to do summer jobs in Canada before exploring a big part of North America from Vancouver BC to Key West, Florida to New England the the US industrial heartland in the mid-West. I eventually migrated to the USA and earned more in one month as an employee in the USA than I could earn in a year in the UK. But fast forward 60 years and working in the USA is less fulfilling than working in most other developed nations because the economic system has been gamed for the benefit of the 'top' at the expense of everyone else. The problems and the solutions are less about political 'left' and 'right' but much more about the 'top' and the 'rest of us'!

During my working career I have done professional work in accountancy, corporate work as a young and not so young CFO and independent consultancy working internationally for the World Bank, the United Nations and others involved with international development and humanitarian assistance. Empire may be over, but international financial colonialism is not. The modern socio-enviro-economic system is not working for the world as a whole, but only for those at the 'top' and has become dangerously unstable. This should not be a surprise. The dominant management metrics are all about corporate profit and augmenting shareholder value, a almost nothing at all about people and society or about nature and the environment. This needs to change as a matter of considerable urgency, and for me, the starting point is to upgrade management metrics so that everything of importance is brought into account and key people in the system (at the top) are held to account. This must be much more than simply pointing a finger at key people and their organizations but activism that makes them feel the heat.

I keep myself engaged by working on the development of TrueValueMetrics.org ... a modest initiative to help make modern management metrics a whole lot more effective than what is going on right now.
