EMISSIONS
MEASUREMENT AND MANAGEMENT OF EMISSIONS Sustainability.com ... reporting on the Benchmarking of Air Emissions by major corporate organizations Original article: Peter Burgess COMMENTARY I am very disturbed at the quality of general information and dialog that is flowing in modern America, and to some extent all over the world. To put it quite bluntly ... I am better educated and informed than most, but my level of knowledge is quite small compared to what it really ought to be. Some of that is my age and the reality that I am not a 'digital native', but much is because the flow of information is massive and its quality and utility is low. Mostly the 'design' of the information flows are prioritising an agenda that has nothing to do with getting good information to the public in an efficient way, but much more to do with either (1) serving an advertising and marketing agenda, or (2) promoting a point of view, in other words propaganda. Thgis has all sorts of implications ... none of them good. Meanwhile there are huge changes going on in the real world, some of which are impressive and good and some of which are problematic for any number of reasons. This section of the TVM enviro-socio-economic system overview addresses the energy sector, the generation of electicity and the associated emissions. There has been a substantial improvement in the available data concerning progress and performance of the many organizations in this segment of the economy over the past few years ... and in some ways I am impressed with the progress that is being made. I am bothered by my own lack of appreciation of the progress and problems ... and it worries me that most people have way less knowledge of the facts than I do. As people who know me will already know, it worries me that while there are some actors who have a serious concern about sustainability over the long run, there are still to many powerful and wealthy financial actors who will embrace 'financialization' and do all they can to optimize for profits and their contiuning wealth accumulation at the expense of the environment and society.
