The American Banker: Around the world the use of cards is exceeding the use of money ...

Peter Burgess COMMENTARY
The 'death of money' was a provocative title and potentially of huge importance to the design and functioning of an equitable socio-enviro-economic system. This was absent. Rather I listened to an hour of talking about how tech could be used to pull more value from the customer into the bank's financial performance. I realize this ... that is profit performance for corporates ... is what dominates the modern world, but for the last 40+ years this has gone into overdrive at the expense of society and the environment. Money is a thing ... and an important thing ... but not a measure. Double entry accounting is very powerful, but needs to be enhanced so that there is accounting for social impacts and environmental impacts that are integrated with accounting for money.
