People for the American Way Discussion of Rep. Jamie Raskin’s new book! 'UNTHINKABLE' on Tuesday, October 11 at 4:00 PM ET ![]() Original article: Peter Burgess COMMENTARY Peter Burgess | ||
People For the American Way
Join us for a discussion of Rep. Jamie Raskin’s book! You're Invited! [via People For] September 24th 2022 9:21 AM Peter, Throughout history we’ve witnessed the power that books and literature have to inspire, power movements, and indeed change the trajectory of nations. It also comes as no surprise that those who oppose progress and change often seek to limit the public's freedom to learn, and filter what information they think is most appropriate – efforts much like those we’ve seen from far-right politicians across the country. It is in that spirit of promoting literature and the freedom to learn, and connecting our members with some of our movement’s most impactful authors, that People For is excited to announce the launch of our very own Book Club – debuting with Rep. Jamie Raskin’s book “Unthinkable: Trauma, Truth, and the Trials of American Democracy.” RSVP now to join us on Tuesday, October 11 at 4:00 PM ET (1:00 PM PT) for this exciting event – and the first of many in a new series hosted by People For! >> During the Book Club discussion I’ll be joined by Rep. Jamie Raskin to discuss his book, along with People For Executive Director Svante Myrick. Rep. Raskin’s book, Unthinkable, is a memoir that details an unimaginable time in the congressman’s life: the painful loss of his son to suicide, living through the violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, and leading the impeachment proceedings against former President Trump to hold him accountable for inciting the violence that day. Rep. Raskin’s gripping and page-turning account lays bare a father’s journey with grief while also leading a nation through one of our country’s darkest days. If you’d like to read Unthinkable in advance of our discussion, you can purchase a copy of Rep. Raskin’s book at your favorite local retailer or wherever books are sold. RSVP today to join us in what is sure to be a moving and informative conversation with Rep. Raskin >> ![]() The new People For the American Way Book Club will be a monthly series featuring live virtual conversations with the authors – we expect to announce additional authors in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!
