JoAnne Berkenkamp ... • 1st ... Managing Director at MBOLD Coalition / GREATER MSP
I'm thrilled to share the news that the MBOLD coalition and our value chain partners are catalyzing a new #CircularEconomy for #FlexibleFilms and #packaging materials in the Upper Midwest. MBOLD members @General Mills, @Schwan’s Company @Target @LandOLakes @Cargill @Ecolab and @University of Minnesota are collaborating with film recycler @Myplas USA and film manufacturer @Charter Next Generation to launch new flexible film #recycling capacity in Minnesota, expand the supply of recycled resin to reduce reliance on virgin plastic, and reduce #GHG. This MBOLD-led effort includes a joint $9.2 equity investment in Myplas USA by General Mills, Schwans Co., Target, Ecolab and Charter Next. The Alliance to End Plastic Waste,Closed Loop Partners and the State of Minnesota are providing additional support for Myplas' new film recycling facility. I'm honored to work with MBOLD members and our partners to tackle this challenge together. The rest ends up landfilled, incinerated or worse, released into the environment. MBOLD is putting a dent in the plastics problem. We’re partnering across the supply chain to catalyze a new #CircularEconomy for #FlexibleFilms and packaging materials in the Upper Midwest. MBOLD members General Mills, Schwan's Company, Target, Land O'Lakes, Inc. Cargill, Ecolab, and University of Minnesota are collaborating with recycler Myplas USA and film manufacturer Charter Next Generation to launch new flexible film #recycling capacity in Minnesota, increase use of recycled content and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Myplas USA will open a new facility for recycling flexible film in 2023, recycling up to 90M lbs. of plastic per year. How much is that? Enough to wrap around the earth’s equator 137 times! Closed Loop Partners, Alliance to End Plastic Waste and State of Minnesota are providing additional financial support for Myplas’ new state-of-the art film recycling facility in Rogers, Minnesota, its first in the United States.
