In Modern history, Russia has long reigned king of tanks when it comes to numerical advantage, but that does not seem to be the case anymore, as dire issues begin to arise. While on paper, Russia seems to be a formidable foe, in reality the case is much, much different.

The tank, a staple in Soviet doctrine, was produced in huge numbers - with the most produced tank in the world being the T-54/55 Main Battle tank, making western generals anxious as they looked eastwards across the iron curtain.
Today however, this is no longer the case, Russia has been unable to make it’s latest tank in any considerable number, and what Soviet tanks it can modernise - it’s struggling to do so fast enough to meet demand. Not only is the war in Ukraine decimating Russia’s tank fleet, but the poor storage conditions has meant that a large percentage of tanks in reserve need a complete overhaul to work properly again, with many more being utilised as parts bins.
Fresh off these matters, it becomes clear that Russia has a tank problem.
A problem, which is starting to show it’s ugly head, as the recent parade in Moscow, 2023, showed only a single T-34 present out of all Russia’s MBT’s. The problem is more an issue for the future, as Russia slowly runs out of soviet models that can be modernised, and it’s industry grows more and more incapable of producing a brand new tank in fresh numbers, - which would require an economic scenario that Russia simply isn’t in anymore.
