Pierre Poilievre attempted to twist a single line from Mark Carney’s Johannesburg press conference into a political scandal — but the plan collapsed instantly in Parliament. In today’s video, we break down how Poilievre misrepresented Carney’s “Who cares?” moment, why Canadians immediately saw through the spin, and how senior ministers Dominic LeBlanc and François-Philippe Champagne delivered sharp, fact-based takedowns that exposed the desperation behind the attack.
This video explores what Carney really meant in Johannesburg: rejecting childish, repetitive questions and refusing to glorify Trump’s position when Canada is focused on building its own future. We’ll show how Poilievre tried to frame this as indifference to Canadian jobs — and how the government dismantled that narrative with receipts, context, and clarity.
From the global stage to Parliament Hill, this moment reveals a growing contrast in Canadian politics: one side focused on strategy, diplomacy, and economic progress… the other focused on twisting clips for headlines. Watch the full breakdown to see how the exchange unfolded — and why the attempt to roast Carney ended with Poilievre getting roasted instead.

Mark Carney’s Johannesburg press conference sparked a major political moment in Canada as Pierre Poilievre’s misleading attack quickly unraveled in Parliament, where ministers exposed the truth behind the Carney “who cares” context and dismantled the opposition spin. As the Dominic LeBlanc response and François-Philippe Champagne rebuttal revealed, the government is focused on Canadian jobs, economic strategy, and international leadership, while Poilievre continues pushing twisted narratives, misinformation, and clip manipulation for headlines. This video breaks down the full Carney vs Poilievre exchange, the political backfire, and what it means for Canadian politics, public trust, and Canada’s global position as Carney’s clear message stands strong against false claims, media distortion, and opposition theatrics.

- Something strange happened today in
- Ottawa. Something that shows exactly how
- desperate the opposition has become and
- how quickly misinformation collapses
- when real leadership steps in.
- Yesterday, Mark Carney stood on a global
- stage in Johannesburg and handled the
- press with complete clarity. He shut
- down repetitive, meaningless questions.
- He stayed focused on Canada's agenda.
- and he made it clear that this country
- isn't waiting for Trump's approval to
- move forward. And yet within hours,
- Pierre Paul tried to twist one line from
- that press conference into an attack. He
- tried to claim that when Carney said,
- 'Who cares?' he was dismissing Canadian
- workers, Canadian jobs, and Canadians
- hurt by US tariffs. But Canadians saw
- the clip. They know exactly who Carney
- was talking about.
- 1:01
- He wasn't dismissing this country. He
- was dismissing childish questions. Today
- in Parliament, Polyav tried to roast
- Carney, but it didn't go the way he
- expected. Polyav walked straight into a
- trap because Carney's team came fully
- armed with facts, confidence, and
- receipts.
- Since the US called off trade talks with
- Canada,
- has Mr. Trump returned your calls,
- texts, or accepted your apology over the
- Ontario ad.
- Uh he accepted the apology when I spoke
- to him. Uh and we have uh we've had
- discussions. Uh I've been busy. Um this
- is another point though. I've been busy.
- We passed a budget, a budget with a uh
- that's going to catalyze a trillion
- dollars of investment. Uh we have
- launched new trade agreements. uh we've
- secured new investment uh in uh the
- country uh of a size not seen arguably
- before. Um so we're busy.
- When was the last time you spoke to the
- president? And as you diversify trade
- 2:01
- away from the US, what's your red line
- like when you in terms of dealing with
- other countries? I mean what are the
- conditions where you won't do business
- with another country no matter how much
- money it has? Well, when we engage with
- a country, Canada engages with a country
- that we're endorsing everything that
- country does. The two do not follow. Um,
- we calibrate our relationship, but it's
- not uh uh it's not an endorsement of
- everything that happens in the country,
- nor is nor vice versa from those
- countries uh to us.
- Next question.
- Uh who cares? I mean, it's a detail.
- It's a detail. I spoke to him. I'll
- speak to him again when it matters. I
- look forward to speaking to the
- president soon, but I I don't have a
- burning issue to speak with the
- president about right now. Um, when
- America wants to come back and have the
- discussions on the trade side, we will
- have those discussions.
- When Polyav rose in the House of
- Commons, you could tell he believed he
- 3:00
- had a viral moment in his hands. He
- delivered his lines like he was
- performing for social media, repeating,
- 'Who cares?' again and again as if
- dramatic emphasis could rewrite reality.
- The problem, reality was not on his
- side. Everyone watching had already seen
- Carney's full answer. They saw the
- context, the tone, and the intent.
- Polyab was pretending Carney dismissed
- Canadian families, but the clip shows
- Carney doing the exact opposite. He was
- rejecting the dramatics, the obsession
- with Trump, and the low value
- questioning from the journalist. But
- Polyav kept pushing the twist. He leaned
- into the narrative, hoping repetition
- would create truth. Instead, repetition
- made the desperation obvious. Speaker,
- the prime minister claimed during the
- last election that the US tariffs were
- an existential crisis and I quote,
- 4:01
- requiring that he immediately be elected
- to quote negotiate a win and get a deal
- by July 21st. Well, a few days ago, he
- was asked about the state of those
- negotiations and he said there are no
- issues of importance to discuss. In
- fact, he said, 'Who cares?'
- Mr. Speaker, we care. We care about the
- workers who've lost their jobs and don't
- have paychecks to make their mortgage
- payments.
- Mr. Speaker, the prime minister already
- apologized to President Trump. It was
- one of the many areas where he backed
- down and capitulated after claiming that
- he would be elbows up. He promised he'd
- have a deal by July 21st. No deal.
- Promised to negotiate a win. No wins.
- Mr. Speaker, he promised elbows up.
- Elbows are gone. And now when he's asked
- about the state of the talks, he says,
- 'Who cares? Why should he care?' Days
- after he met with the president,
- Brookfield got an $80 billion contract
- with the White House.
- 5:01
- Is that really what he cares about? Does
- he not care about the hardworking
- Canadians that are counting on him to
- keep his promise? Prime Minister who
- said, 'Who cares?' When he was asked
- just over the weekend about the failure
- to keep his promises on trade since he
- took office. Not only has he failed to
- get the promised deal, but American
- tariffs on aluminum, autos, and steel
- have doubled. On forestry communities,
- they have tripled. The prime minister
- says, 'Who cares?' All of us on this
- side of the house care about the
- communities that are being emptied out
- in our forestry, the the pe the steel
- workers in Hamilton who don't have jobs
- to pay their mortgages. We care about
- those people. Why doesn't he and
- negotiate a deal with the United States?
- He repeats the same promise that the
- prime minister has been breaking for the
- last 8 months. He said he would have a
- deal by July 21st. No deal. He said he'd
- negotiate a win. No win. He said he
- wouldn't back down. All he's done is
- back down. He said he'd be elbows up.
- 6:01
- His elbows are missing. And now when
- he's asked about the fate of these
- thousands of jobs that rely on him
- keeping his word, he says, 'Who cares?'
- Isn't it clear by now that even a just a
- days after he met the president only
- Brookfield got the $80 billion deal? Is
- that the what he meant when he promised
- he'd negotiate a win?
- Then Dominic Leblanc stood up and the
- mood shifted instantly. Where Polyav
- relied on theatrics, Leblanc relied on
- clarity, he calmly reminded the house
- that repeating a line, no matter how
- loudly or dramatically, does not make it
- true. His tone wasn't angry. It was
- steady, confident, and almost amused.
- Leblanc pointed out something important.
- While Polyav was twisting words, the
- government was actually working. They
- were defending Canadian workers. They
- were negotiating protections. They were
- strengthening industries. and Polyav
- 7:02
- time after time voted against the very
- measures designed to help Canadians. In
- a single response, LeBlanc pulled apart
- the entire foundation of Polyav's
- attack. It wasn't a clash, it was an
- exposure.
- Mr. Speaker, just because the leader of
- the opposition keeps repeating the same
- line over and over again doesn't make it
- real. Mr. Speaker, the leader of the
- opposition knows very well that our
- government was elected to defend
- Canadian workers and the Canadian
- economy. That's exactly what we did in a
- budget that was tabled in this House of
- Commons. The opposition decided not to
- support Canadian workers and provinces
- and territories and sectors under attack
- by unfair American tariffs. Mr. Speaker,
- we're going to continue to support
- Canadian workers and the Canadian
- economy and negotiate a deal with the
- United States.
- 8:00
- And then Champagne rose to speak and
- this is where the whole exchange turned
- from political debate to political
- theater. Champagne opened with humor,
- pointing out how animated PolyAB and his
- caucus already were. And it's only
- Monday. The room erupted and that small
- moment alone deflated the intensity
- Polyav tried to create. But then
- Champagne did what he does best. He
- brought the receipts. He listed the
- infrastructure being built across
- Regina, Winnipeg, and Moose Jaw. He
- spoke about the investments flowing into
- housing, clean tech, and national
- defense. He outlined real projects, real
- budgets, and real commitments happening
- across the country. And with every
- example, he exposed the flaw in Pol's
- attack. While one man was trying to
- build a headline, another was building a
- 9:00
- country. By the time Champagne finished,
- the roast Polyav hoped for had reversed
- entirely.
- Mr. Speaker, it's only Monday. Look at
- how excited they are because they know
- there's good news in the budget. Mr.
- Speaker, that's what I see. Mr. Speaker,
- there's enough good news to go to
- Regina, to go to Winnipeg, to go to Mja
- because you know what, Mr. Mr. Speaker,
- the people in Winnipeg understand you
- need to invest in infrastructure. The
- people in Mja understand you need to
- invest in our military. The people in
- Regina understand we need to invest in
- housing. Mr. Speaker, Canadian
- understand that we need to invest in
- this country. On this side of this
- house, we will always fight for Canadian
- because every day is a good day to fight
- for Canadians.
- Here's the truth Canadians walked away
- with today. And it's simple. They saw a
- prime minister abroad representing
- Canada with confidence. They saw
- reporters trying to drag him into
- pointless drama. They saw Polyav take a
- 10:01
- single line out of context and try to
- turn it into a scandal. And then they
- saw two senior ministers calmly
- dismantle the spin in parliament. This
- wasn't complicated. It wasn't confusing.
- It wasn't a he said, she said. Canadians
- saw the full picture. Carney focused on
- Canada's future. Polyav focused on
- twisting a moment. Leblanc and Champagne
- focused on facts. And when the dust
- settled, it was obvious who looked like
- a leader and who looked like someone
- trying to force a narrative that simply
- didn't match reality. This whole chain
- of events shows something important.
- Carney is shaping Canada's direction
- both globally and politically. Polyav
- tried to weaponize a moment, but
- Carney's team didn't just respond, they
- dismantled the narrative with ease.
- 11:00
- Yesterday, Carney shut down a reporter
- who was wasting everyone's time. Today,
- his team shut down an opposition leader
- doing the same thing. Canada is moving
- forward. The noise is staying behind.
