Victory in Europe in 1945. Today I have been watching the parade in Beijing remembering the Victory over Japan later in the same year. The parade in London, was very British ... not surprising! The parade in Beijing was different ... very Chinese ... again not surprising. These two parades were very different ... but both were very effective. The London parade had a very strong 'story line' ... and for someone like me was very effective. The Beijing parade had a very different story line. In a simplistic way, I see the Chinese parade of a modest reminder that China had a win in WWII, together with a strong message that modern China now has the strength to be a dominent world power right now and even more into the future. To put the Chinese parade in perspective ... I would describe the Chines parade as being more than a thousand times more impressive than the feeble military parade Trump organized in Washington on July 3rd for the 200th anniverary of the US Military and his own birthday!
