EXCLUSIVE - On Saturday, June 14, one of the major demonstrations in the vast national protest movement dubbed 'No Kings' took place in Los Angeles. The protests were sparked by a spectacular military parade in Washington, D.C., coinciding with the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army and Donald Trump's 79th birthday.

The protesters expressed their rejection of the Trump administration's authoritarian policies—particularly its massive immigration removal operations carried out by the federal service ICE—as well as the military display's perceived monarchical symbolism.

The 'No Kings' movement has spread to more than 2,000 cities across the country, attracting millions of participants. In Los Angeles, the main rally downtown drew approximately 25,000 people, according to authorities. It followed a week of protests against ICE (anti-immigration police) raids and the military presence in the city (National Guard and Marines) deployed by President Trump without approval from Governor Newsom.

The initially peaceful demonstration turned violent in the mid-afternoon in front of the Edward R. Roybal Federal Building. Protesters threw projectiles, pyrotechnic devices, and bottles, while law enforcement responded with tear gas, stun grenades, rubber bullets, and horseback charges.

The clashes resulted in numerous injuries to both law enforcement and protesters. In Los Angeles, police carried out violent dispersals, and several dozen arrests were recorded for obstruction of traffic or participation in unlawful assemblies, bringing the total number of arrests in the region to approximately 500 since the protests began in early June.

The 'No Kings' movement has been hailed as the largest anti-Trump citizen mobilization since his return to the presidency, seen as a wake-up call against the slide toward a permanent state of emergency and the erosion of civil liberties. It has attracted support from diverse communities: immigrants, families, veterans, young people, and disillusioned former Republican voters.

In early June, mass raids by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agents in several Los Angeles neighborhoods—including the Fashion District, Westlake, and South L.A.—sparked a series of protests, initially peaceful and sometimes erupting into violent clashes. These actions aimed to arrest people without legal status, leading to the arrest of dozens to over a hundred people, suspected by the protesters of having suffered police violence.

The deployment of the National Guard and Marines to Los Angeles, ordered by President Trump following the first riots against these ICE raids in early June, marked an unprecedented escalation. This federal mobilization, deemed illegal by the California courts, raises questions about the use of the military in the face of civil unrest.

Governor Gavin Newsom denounced an 'unjustified federal intrusion' and filed a lawsuit to protect state sovereignty. He declared that he would not allow this maneuver to go through, calling the intervention 'intentionally inflammatory.'

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass castigated the National Guard as a dangerous federal 'experiment,' believing its presence arouses more tensions than it calms. She deemed the operation 'unjustified' and called for calm, reiterating that the local police had sufficient resources. For his part, Trump welcomed the appeals court's decision temporarily upholding these federal military deployments, deeming it to have 'saved L.A.' from destruction.

  • h
  • so we're here uh we're we're um we're

  • 15:00
  • trying to counter all the white
  • supremacy and racism that's happening
  • and and and the these what they call
  • United States with the admin uh Trump
  • administration here we're we're in LA
  • with the majority of the people here of
  • people of Mexican Central American
  • descent and so we came out here and
  • protest because that's what we do in LA
  • we're very active where activists get um
  • uh you know they they come out on the
  • streets and and in in a matter of
  • minutes and stuff so So today they they
  • trigger the the the anger of and the
  • eyeire of everybody not just here but
  • 2,100 and manifestations of protest
  • around the country so here in LA is a
  • hub you know of of a very active uh u uh
  • citizenship is not only against China
  • it's because the eyes and everything
  • right right right that's for the most
  • part but uh also I think it's also the
  • diversion from keeping away distracted
  • keeping the population distracted from
  • what's going on in around the world and

  • 16:01
  • with a a very inept government that's
  • destroying civil liberties destroying uh
  • healthcare you know all all these things
  • that that people depend on you come from
  • Mexico i am I I I'm actually I live here
  • but I'm of Mexican descent and uh here I
  • I have one of the the the images that we
  • we created to uh tell people tell all
  • these people that really are are um are
  • furious and want to take they want to
  • present eyes to basically uh um instill
  • fear in our community and basically tell
  • them look we're an indigenous people
  • ourselves we as people of Mexican
  • Central America we've been here on this
  • continent so that's our that's our
  • message and this is what we're trying to
  • do we're trying to educate the
  • population at the same time is you or
  • your family
  • [Music]
  • oh yes for sure that they're in our
  • community they're they've been seen
  • close to where I live people don't walk
  • out anymore especially because you know

  • 17:02
  • if they don't especially they they're
  • they don't have any documents but even
  • the people that have documents they're
  • afraid because because this is not
  • nothing new this has been happening over
  • the years in the 1930s they deported 2
  • million Mexicans out of this and most of
  • them never been in Mexico and then it
  • happened in the 40s it happened in the
  • 50s so this is an ongoing thing for us
  • so we're used to not for not used to it
  • but it's it's always it's always scary
  • for some of our people especially the
  • children do you not
  • not personally but I know people that
  • know other people that have been
  • affected and been deported yes what's
  • the feeling of these people
  • oh they're terrified they're terrified
  • especially if they have children uh not
  • too long ago they they they took a a
  • lady and and separated from her children
  • for three children she was crying you
  • could see the the fear in her so and and
  • and then they've been arresting little
  • children and they they put handcuffs on
  • little children 5-year-olds 7 year olds

  • 18:01
  • and their mothers as well even pregnant
  • women have been uh uh uh arrested by ICE
  • and and deported so we don't you know
  • and then the thing is you don't know the
  • whereabouts because they will not tell
  • you it's basically the way the feeling
  • that I get is that if they get deported
  • to Mexico Central America they got to
  • call or the good thing is Mexico is
  • doing something to to uh help if anybody
  • that gets deported they they'll help
  • them they have the the the embassies and
  • you know that sort of thing i have the
  • feeling that the eyes can deport
  • children's family not only dangerous
  • people oh yeah for sure and what they
  • want to do they want to get to the point
  • where they want to deport people that
  • even don't have documents or even revoke
  • any document that you have so they could
  • freely deport you so there we're in
  • we're in troubled times right now the
  • community fighting uh the community
  • fighting uh yes yes as you can see a lot
  • of community they get active there's
  • organizations that get active there are
  • organizations that drive around to see
  • if there's any ICE and they they they uh

  • 19:01
  • holler to the the people you know leave
  • the place because ISIS is down the
  • street so they're very organized in that
  • way do you think the protest like today
  • can uh can stop the IC
  • it probably won't at the moment but but
  • the the more it progresses the the the
  • harder ICE is going to uh be uh uh going
  • after some of our people eventually more
  • people are going to come out this is
  • just the beginning i I think because uh
  • people don't want to be see their
  • children grandparents parents deported
  • protesting exactly but there is a lot of
  • protest today they're all over that all
  • especially where the where the vastly
  • majority or of of Mexican Central
  • American people live they're out there
  • because they know they're going to be
  • affected sooner or later well they're
  • everybody's going to be affected
  • actually restaurants are closing uh you
  • have uh the the the farms you know
  • everything's going to get affected
  • prices of of food's going to go up and

  • 20:00
  • and all these these these things that
  • that you know because people don't want
  • to go to the jobs anymore try to remove
  • people you know you know it a lot of
  • people say that but but in in our case
  • this this land we always we always been
  • on this land so yes we saw when when uh
  • the first Americans invaded in 1846
  • okay so everything was cool when it was
  • doesn't well actually wasn't cool
  • because they came and and did a lot of
  • uh they they massacred people and
  • everything but yes we've been we've been
  • struggling through this we've been
  • struggling through this and uh it's it's
  • it's it's been continuing it's every
  • every so often mass deportations they
  • want to do mass teleportations but I
  • think now it's different now the
  • citizenry more more informed so and
  • they're not going to tolerate this a lot
  • there's there's a lot of youth and and
  • that's what the the the thing that for
  • me it's very pleasant to see that there
  • most of it is youth that are coming out
  • here and and voicing their their their
  • uh grievance and opinion

  • 21:02
  • relation i think uh in many ways yes
  • imagine if we didn't protest then they
  • say everything's fine they're they're
  • okay with it this is the only the only
  • uh weapon that we have is protesting and
  • going out on the streets
  • [Music]
  • [Applause]
  • [Music]
  • you had all Hallelujah
  • [Music]
