Really not a surprise! But many of Trump's ideas are more than bad ideas in themselves, they are part of a broader Trump mindset which is nothing more than 'disruption' to benefit Trump the disrupter in chief. This is the last thing the world needs ... even though ot may be 'good for Trump, it is really bad for everyone else! Trump was a 'spolt brat' when he was growing up, and he has been 'spoiled' all his adult life. I ran into Trump myself when I visited a Trump casino that had recently been opened in Atlantic City. It subsequently failed and hundreds of contractors were never paid. These contractors went into bankruptcy and even though different parts of the Trump corporate structure went bankrupt, Trump himself gained in wealth. This makes no economic sense, but it is amazing what powerful people can do toe game the law to their benefit. At this, Trump is a master! Fast forward from the 1990s aabout 30 years to the second Trump Presidency, and it looks like being the 'same old ... same old Trump' where everyone becomes a loser with the exception of Trump himself. interesting is the way that this played 1:13 out because of the way that countries 1:15 have learn how you deal with 1:17 Trump so uh we got to the Monday and we 1:22 were facing the deadline was going to 1:23 come in and first of all uh Claudia 1:26 shinell who is the president of Mexico 1:30 and there's an important bit of 1:31 background here when Trump was making 1:32 all his threats about 1:34 migrants oh you know if you don't take 1:36 migrants we're going to slap sanctions 1:38 on you we're going to punish you you 1:40 know we're gonna we're going to come 1:42 after you Shin bound told him last 1:44 November that's not going to work you 1:46 know we're not going to be intimidated 1:47 and he backed off he actually backed off 1:49 of in going after and he went after 1:51 Canada instead anyway shine bound on 1:54 Monday um comes out and having taken a 1:58 very tough stand with her to domc 2:00 population then she and Trump talk on 2:01 the 2:02 phone now what she does is she doesn't 2:06 completely go studs up against him right 2:09 we're not going to have the 2:10 confrontation what she does is she makes 2:12 a token gesture and the token gesture is 2:14 we'll send some National Guard up to the 2:17 border right you know to patrol the 2:19 migrant flows Etc the same thing that 2:22 Mexico did in 2021 at the start of the 2:24 Biden Administration exact same thing 2:27 that took place um but Biden's but sorry 2:31 but Trump has got something shiny now oh 2:33 well they're sending National Guard to 2:34 the border so he can remove the threat 2:37 for 30 days and say look this is what 2:40 I've achieved but the Mex Mexicans 2:42 really made no concessions in terms of 2:44 what's taking place okay then there's 2:47 the Canadians uh and of course Donald 2:50 Trump hates Justin Trudeau he's hated 2:51 him for years but Trudeau gets on the 2:54 phone with him and he says oh okay well 2:56 we are we're devoting I think 1.3 2:58 billion to border 3:00 security uh we're talking about 3:02 Personnel we're talking about technology 3:04 advanced technology uh and I'm going to 3:07 name a fenel 3:08 are now that's kind of meaningless only 3:12 19 kilograms of fenel crossed from 3:14 Canada to the US in 2024 but the word 3:18 fenel are this goes back to the 1980s 3:20 drugs are and the radio reg 3:22 Administration oh that's an really 3:24 important position and Trump goes out 3:26 and says look big victory the Canadians 3:29 had announced all of the steps except 3:31 for the fenals are they had announced 3:33 everything else on border security on 3:35 December 3:35 17th they'd already made the commitments 3:39 so yeah what you had was you had a bit 3:41 of theater Trump was trying to act tough 3:44 he was trying to get some concessions 3:46 and buly and Canada and Mexico stood 3:48 their ground do you think part of it as 3:50 well was that he was a bit spooked by 3:52 the global markets and their reaction 3:55 like he doesn't he's a man that doesn't 3:57 like to be um he doesn't like to be 4:00 unpopular you know and and that kind of 4:03 changed things a bit I I think there 4:05 were multiple things that came into play 4:06 on that Monday which is interesting and 4:08 and of course Everybody is watching the 4:12 markets and of course the markets start 4:14 on Sunday American time it started in 4:16 Asia because of the threat on tariffs on 4:19 China as well and I think the Nik in 4:21 Japan was down 2% South Korean index was 4:23 down to around about two um so you could 4:26 just see the wave of the markets you can 4:28 see Europe where the market Market 4:29 changes take place and then you watch 4:31 the US markets it wasn't just that the 4:34 US markets were down 4:36 2% technology stocks took a big hit on 4:39 Monday because the idea being if there's 4:42 going to be a big us China scrap if it's 4:44 going to be affecting raw materials as 4:46 well from other parts technology is 4:48 going to be affected uh and of course 4:52 technology stocks are what has been 4:54 driving the US Stock Market for several 4:56 years and of course Elon Musk the 4:59 unelected co-president of the United 5:01 States has uh a big investment in Tesla 5:06 which is part of those big seven The 5:08 Magnificent Seven of stocks that we're 5:09 talking about so yeah I think the 5:11 markets had a play in it um and I think 5:15 I'm not sure Trump always looks at 5:17 headlines on markets but his advisers 5:19 also would have looked at what's behind 5:20 the headlines on markets which is in 5:22 terms of how the financial sector is 5:23 reacting and JP Morgan came out and said 5:28 this Administration is not business 5:30 friendly that's a pretty big warning 5:33 shot that's fired from where in 5:35 America's biggest financial institutions 5:37 so I think all of this was in play there 5:40 U and so what Trump does of course is he 5:42 kicks the can down the road for 30 days 5:44 because he can't back out completely you 5:46 can't say oh that's it I'm not going to 5:47 impose tariffs at all U what we now have 5:50 to see is over the next 30 days you know 5:53 are we going to have serious trade talks 5:55 what shape do they take place are they 5:57 overtaken by Trump going off on another 5:59 thought bubble um which means that even 6:02 though we're out of the immediate Woods 6:04 on terms of what would have affected not 6:06 just Canada Mexico it would have 6:08 affected Europe it would have affected 6:09 the UK um we still have the uncertainty 6:13 we still have the business investment 6:14 uncertainty you know over whether 6:17 something's going to happen in the next 6:18 month it's going to bring us back to 6:19 again another throw of Confrontation uh 6:22 which is you know in a lose lose 6:24 situation because no one wins in the 6:26 Tariff wall That's the headline I mean 6:28 now we have the tariffs uh with China 6:31 and this kind of looming threat of a 6:34 full-on trade War do you think that he 6:36 would Backtrack on that as well I mean I 6:40 think people a lot of people would have 6:42 thought that maybe having Elon Musk it 6:44 you know kind of adjacent to the White 6:47 House or in the white house whatever you 6:48 want to call it maybe one positive part 6:51 of it would be that he does have these 6:54 you know links with China and his work 6:55 with Tesla that he might have been able 6:57 to help those relationships and behind 7:00 Trump at the inauguration was all of 7:02 these Tech bosses and they're kind of 7:04 the most impacted by the tariffs you 7:06 kind of would have thought that they 7:07 might have been in his ear a little bit 7:09 more saying like this isn't going to 7:10 work well TR Trump had already stepped 7:13 back a bit even on the China tariff line 7:16 because remember he was talking about 7:17 60% during the campaign you know and in 7:19 the end he goes with 10 that's still 7:21 significant I mean that's still given 7:24 the size of uh the US China trading 7:27 relationship you know it's you talk 7:28 about many bli ions of dollars that 7:30 could be affected but China would have 7:33 been preparing for this and so what was 7:35 interesting is that China within minutes 7:37 comes back out and says all right we're 7:40 going to retaliate uh on American 7:43 Vehicles we're going to retaliate on 7:45 other American sectors they slapped two 7:47 American companies on their bad on their 7:49 naughty list um but what was interesting 7:52 out of all that is is that the one 7:54 company they then said they're going to 7:56 investigate um was uh Google now of 8:00 course Google's arrival to Elon Musk in 8:04 the it sector so China's playing it both 8:07 ways in that uh they they're going to 8:09 say we're not going to be pushed around 8:11 but they're leaving the door open for 8:12 Maneuvers as well and of course 8:14 everybody started flagging out the fact 8:15 that Trump's gonna talk to Xian ping and 8:17 and Trump loves xan ping Trump trump 8:20 wants to be an autocrat like Xian ping 8:21 so that kind of comes into the play with 8:23 it here and once again we're going to 8:26 get into an idea of what happens in the 8:27 next 30 days which was exactly what 8:29 happened during Trump first ter is that 8:32 he would come out and impose tariffs in 8:33 this case by social media just you know 8:36 an announcement and then everybody would 8:38 start to calibrate and bring it on now 8:41 China's biggest challenge right now is 8:42 internal Cheng's got China's got big 8:44 internal issues economically we've known 8:47 that for years uh the terrs don't help 8:49 that but they're they're not like a 8:52 breaking point so China will assess 8:55 they'll make their play but I think the 8:57 interesting thing to watch is that that 9:00 China will not just maneuver with the US 9:02 they'll maneuver with other countries so 9:04 their play with other countries is going 9:05 to be the US is not a reliable trading 9:08 partner you see what they have done to 9:11 their allies and of course Trump is 9:13 threatening tariffs on the EU as well 9:15 don't you think you should be looking to 9:16 us for a stable trading relationship so 9:19 there's multiple pieces that Beijing are 9:21 going to be looking at um where Trump's 9:24 focus is going to be I don't know 9:26 because you know the other thing about 9:28 this is we should be talk about these 9:29 tffs but Trump's got a relatively short 9:32 attention span and he jumps off onto 9:35 other issues so on Monday we were 9:37 talking tariffs you know here I am 9:40 talking to you on a Wednesday and the 9:43 big story is his his uh ethnic cleansing 9:46 of Gaza you know his whis bank proposal 9:49 so you know whether he spends the next 9:51 few days thinking about Israel Gaza or 9:53 whether he gets back onto tariffs or 9:55 whether he gets back onto something else 9:57 for example completely breaking the US 9:59 government with an administrative coup 10:02 you know there's no I can't give you a 10:04 coherent read on where tariffs are going 10:06 to go at this point because there is a 10:08 coherence around Trump and around the 10:10 administration just before we go on to 10:12 Gaza I just wanted to ask the last thing 10:14 on tariffs is this not just completely 10:18 playing into xiin Ping's hands into his 10:21 Playbook I mean you know now he gets to 10:24 turn around and go to bodies like bricks 10:27 and um you exactly what you said you 10:30 know go and trade with other bodies it 10:33 means the countries even like the UK 10:35 might feel like they have to trade with 10:37 you know um other B surely it's just 10:40 going to have a quite a detrimental 10:42 impact on the US which last time it had 10:44 a really big impact on the agricultural 10:47 sector we're seeing things like you know 10:49 already USPS they're not delivering some 10:52 parcels coming from China and Hong Kong 10:55 you're going to look China is going to 10:58 play this in in multiple ways I mean the 11:00 first thing is going to be that um even 11:02 though the tariffs are more limited now 11:04 that they just simply on China rather 11:06 than Canada and Mexico it's still going 11:07 to be an inflation Spike you know 11:09 because you just SLA 10% increased on 11:11 cost on everything you're on on 11:13 everything you're bringing in um when 11:16 inflation goes up well that gives you 11:19 less room to cut interest rates which is 11:20 what the Federal Reserve had been 11:22 planning to do in 11:23 20125 when you don't cut interest rates 11:26 uh then the stock market will uh not 11:29 bounc that will tick off Trump even more 11:32 and what you're going to have is these 11:34 series of economic effects that are 11:35 going to absolutely undo his rhetoric 11:37 you know during the campaign I'll make 11:39 America great again economically um 11:41 which we fully expected that this would 11:43 happen you know that economically things 11:45 would fall apart but tffs aren't going 11:47 to help it and China's going to play 11:49 upon that right because China's going to 11:50 play upon it to distract from their own 11:52 economic issues look at what's happening 11:54 in America but then you're absolutely 11:56 right that that if you play this longer 11:58 term um China which is develop you know 12:01 has its own alternative economic system 12:03 it's got alternative currency it's got 12:05 alternative trading relationships 12:06 alternative Financial relationships but 12:08 it will go into other countries and make 12:10 the play which is you know you're you're 12:13 Western Le you're us-led economic system 12:15 this just isn't stable now um which 12:18 takes place and also they'll do it in 12:20 terms of what we call soft power they'll 12:22 do it in terms of look you know who who 12:25 who Who's the adult in the room here you 12:27 know is it Trump or is it us 12:29 you know and and when it comes to 12:31 diplomacy they're going to build upon 12:33 that and China's also going to be able 12:35 to play upon other things that are going 12:36 to take place for example the complete 12:38 disorder now in the US government with 12:41 the entire agencies being shut down with 12:43 other agencies being paralyzed with 12:45 certain services that are going to be 12:46 crippled uh already being crippled 12:48 whether you're talking about health care 12:50 whether you're talking about uh 12:52 providing basic payments regarding 12:53 transport whether you're talking about 12:56 education you know and Chinese media is 13:00 already having to feeli day with the 13:01 fact that Elon Musk is just tearing 13:04 through the US government like an 13:06 autocrat um and expect more of that to 13:08 come because I don't see musk backing 13:10 down and because Trump simply does not 13:14 know does not know how to to to work off 13:18 of a win-win basis if you want to put it 13:20 this way he always works off a win- lose 13:22 basis and China's going to turn that 13:24 against him so moving on to the 13:26 situation in Gaza um Trump Trump met 13:29 with Benin Netanyahu he laid out his 13:32 plans for the Middle East and he said 13:33 that he wants to take over Gaza and 13:37 relocate Palestinians what was your 13:39 reaction to that press conference that's 13:42 horrific oh yeah let me just speak as a 13:44 human being not as an analyst here 2.3 13:47 million 13:48 people live in 13:51 Gaza um after hamas's Mass killing of 13:54 Israel they have endured 15 months of 13:57 mass killing 14:00 of their population by Israelis and 14:03 we're getting close to 50,000 who have 14:04 been killed in Gaza since then 90% 14:09 almost 90% of the population has been 14:11 displaced they've been thrown out of 14:12 their homes some of them are now trying 14:15 to return to their homes during phase 14:16 one of the ceasefire but a lot of them 14:19 were returning to Rubble Health Services 14:22 absolutely decimated schools torn apart 14:26 there's no functioning economy which is 14:28 there now so you have had a population 14:31 which has gone through this suffering 14:33 and then rather than saying we're going 14:36 to try to continue the ceasefire and 14:38 we're going to lay out a plan for 14:40 Recovery to help those in this 14:43 population which by the way would be a 14:45 good tactic to separate those people 14:46 from Hamas what you say here is they 14:50 have to leave not that they want to 14:52 leave not that they're choosing to leave 14:55 they have to leave and they have to go 14:59 where Egypt which is said it doesn't 15:02 want them Jordan which says it doesn't 15:05 want them another unspecified 15:09 country the Gulf States would say they 15:12 don't want them nobody wants to be 15:15 responsible for the ethnic cleansing of 15:19 Gaza of all gazans and this is what it 15:22 is it is ethnic 15:25 cleansing it should be called out for 15:27 this and I'm just going to put in a 15:30 historical reminder as to why which 15:32 hasn't really been mentioned by folks a 15:35 lot of the current issues we deal with 15:36 in 15:37 2025 which surrounds Israel and 15:40 Palestinians go back to 15:42 1948 and the creation of the state of 15:44 Israel because during that Israel era of 15:48 War hundreds of thousands of 15:51 Palestinians were displaced lost their 15:56 homes I think the it's total around 15:58 about 5 to six million descendants of 16:00 those refugees effectively still are 16:02 stateless in various countries around 16:04 the Middle East it's called the 16:06 Naka nobody wants a second Noba in the 16:10 region nobody except maybe some in 16:13 Benjamin netanyahu's cabinet and what 16:15 Donald Trump has done is he has 16:18 effectively not just sanctioned e 16:20 cleansing he's leading from the front 16:22 including up to the point of using US 16:24 troops to enforce it and that's what's 16:27 happened but what 16:29 is serious in terms of the immediate 16:32 seriousness is is the effects that this 16:35 has uh there will be no phase two of the 16:40 Israel Gaza 16:42 ceasefire now it was already going to be 16:45 difficult because phase one ends in 16:47 three weeks and at that point phase two 16:49 is supposed to be a full Israeli 16:52 withdrawal and talking about who's then 16:55 going to govern 16:57 Gaza now is Israel and the US don't want 17:00 Hamas to govern Gaza uh Hamas would like 17:03 to govern in fact they want to govern 17:05 Gaza but if you don't have a m there 17:07 someone else has to govern it right now 17:10 when you 17:12 say we are going to ethnically cleanse 17:15 gazin of all gazin there will be no Gaza 17:18 government 17:19 none that means no pay to ceasefire and 17:22 you have only two options at that point 17:25 you either have and they two May coexist 17:27 for a while you either have Return To 17:30 War open-ended Israeli attacks Andor you 17:34 have a indefinite military occupation by 17:39 the Israelis and possibly if Trump has 17:42 his way by the 17:44 Americans that's where you are um and it 17:48 you know the the the talks for phase two 17:51 were restarting in Doha and Trump has 17:53 completely swept that aside even if 17:55 Benjamin 17:57 Netanyahu who was under pressure not to 17:59 go into phase one by the hard right 18:01 ministers in his cabinet even if he 18:04 didn't wanted to have a phase two and I 18:06 don't think he does but even if he 18:07 wanted to have a phase two he can't do 18:09 it now he can't do it now because the 18:13 Finance Minister Mr 18:15 smrd supports the ethnic cleansing of 18:18 Gaza the former national security 18:21 minister Mr Ben havir who left the 18:24 cabinet because he objected to phase one 18:26 but he still supports the government he 18:28 came out and it said Trump's statement 18:31 is absolutely right this is the way we 18:34 have to 18:35 go 18:37 even Benny gamps who resigned from 18:39 netanyahu's cabinet last May because he 18:42 didn't agree with the open-ended Waring 18:43 G he said well Trump is Trump's idea is 18:45 original and 18:47 creative Netanyahu has no space to 18:50 pursue a phase two now and again I don't 18:53 think he would have but he has no space 18:56 so you will see the end to to this 18:59 ceasefire in a few weeks and at that 19:01 point Donald Trump who was supposedly 19:04 Remember The Peacemaker because the 19:06 rhetoric was he helped bring about phase 19:08 one he is all in on the side of the 19:11 Israelis to do whatever needs to be 19:15 done to get rid of all 19:19 Gins I'm going to say this point blank 19:21 and look you're out on YouTube and you 19:23 can decide whether or not to put it in 19:24 or not and so 19:27 on we have lived with the 19:31 experience going back to the 20th 19:35 century and even before 19:37 that of ethnic cleansing of other groups 19:43 we've had ethnic cleansing of Armenians 19:45 in World War I in Turkey we've had 19:48 ethnic cleansing of groups in Eastern 19:51 Europe that took 19:53 place we had ethnic cleansing of Jewish 19:56 people which took place 20:00 part of the reason why the state of 20:01 Israel was created was because of the 20:04 ethnic cleansing of Jewish 20:06 people in 2025 having seen that 20:10 experience of ethnic cleansing which by 20:11 the way took place in the Balkans in the 20:12 1990s as well in 2025 for any politician 20:17 to be talking about ethnic cleansing 20:19 given the experience of different 20:21 religious groups different ethnic groups 20:22 in the 20:23 past should be called out as being 20:27 against 20:29 all principles of 20:31 morality and against all international 20:36 law and it is tantamount to supporting 20:41 crimes against humanity I'm going to 20:45 repeat ethnic cleansing of the 20:47 population of Gaza is tantamount to a 20:50 crime against humanity which means that 20:53 in effect what you saw in Washington was 20:56 one man who was already under an arrest 21:01 warrant from the international criminal 21:04 court Benjamin 21:05 Netanyahu and another man who 21:08 effectively put himself in the position 21:10 although it won't happen of facing an 21:13 arrest warrant Donald Trump I appreciate 21:16 your um we're running out of time a 21:19 little bit so I just want to ask you 21:22 just a bit just a question on kind of 21:23 Trump's decision making on this axio 21:27 reported that 21:29 you know not only did this send shock 21:30 waves through the Middle East and 21:31 through the world but in the White House 21:33 himself itself he kind of came up with 21:36 this himself apparently he didn't speak 21:38 to many people in the white house before 21:40 this a lot of members of the GOP didn't 21:42 know until we were told and everyone was 21:45 a little bit confused by it and upon 21:49 Trump running for office there was this 21:51 idea that Trump was going to be quite 21:53 isolationist you know back out of 21:54 Ukraine back out of all of these 21:56 conflicts and now you know it's another 21:59 place that he wants to lay claim to on 22:02 top of the Panama Canal on top of 22:03 Greenland on top of 22:05 Canada and so we're almost seeing these 22:07 kind of Imperial Ambitions from someone 22:10 that we thought was quite isolationist I 22:13 mean what do you think is kind of what 22:16 do you think is behind this decision 22:20 making in 22:22 uh it when uh Trump was negotiating with 22:26 Kim jongo in North Korea uh he said oh 22:30 North Korea has got it's got some prime 22:33 Coastland some prime Coastland for 22:36 development his son-in-law Jared Kushner 22:39 who was part of the first Trump 22:40 Administration said that uh Gaza Gaza 22:44 has gotten incredible waterfront 22:47 property for 22:49 development Donald Trump in his press 22:51 conference yesterday talked about the 22:53 potential of Gaza 22:56 for uh 22:59 Resorts where people from all countries 23:01 could come to he simply was talking as a 23:04 businessman to depopulate the 23:07 area and rebuild it not for Gins but for 23:10 people with a lot of money to come that 23:12 is exactly what took place and I'm sorry 23:15 I'm not buying this if you're in the 23:17 Trump Administration you know that 23:18 Donald Trump has talked like this he's 23:20 been talking like 23:21 this if you hadn't gone back years he's 23:24 been talking about it ever since the 23:25 inauguration I can go back and give you 23:27 a statement on January 23d where he said 23:29 the same thing so now I don't know 23:32 whether the Trump Administration people 23:34 just simply won't put a leash on him or 23:37 whether they simply think oh well he can 23:38 say that you know it's not really going 23:40 to matter that much the point here is is 23:44 that there will be some people in the 23:45 media that will just pretend it's all 23:46 normal it's just Trump speaking off the 23:48 cuff and so you know no big deal now a 23:52 lot of us in the media aren't thank God 23:54 and talk about how serious it is but I 23:56 want to see today all right which 23:58 Republicans are going to speak out 23:59 against 24:00 this nobody would in the white house 24:03 will of course because then Trump would 24:04 fire them is Elon Musk and call
