Peter Burgess COMMENTARY
Princess Anne has been my favorite 'Royal' for a very long time. As a younger man, I was impressed that she was able to be a winner in erquestrian sport at the highest levels ... the Olympics ... and I was also aware of her many Royal duties that she undertook.
When I was working in the Horn of Africa in the 1980s on various international refugee initiatives, Prince Anne, as a top person in one of the humanitarian organizations was planning to be in the region. Living conditions in the area were 'primative' to say the least ... and the idea that we were expected to have a 'Royal' visitor was somewhat daunting. We did, however, know that Princess Anne had a great understanding of reality, and that was encouraging.
The problem was resolved when the Norwwegian Aid Agency stepped up and build a 'guest house' in the area for situations like this ... recognising that an investment of this sort could be used to facilitate much more funding for all the programs that were essential for success.
For me ... at that time ... what could have been a difficult issue, was resolved in a reasonable winwin manner!
The above story goes back several decades ... but Princess Anne remains an impressive human being. I have watched with interest as she has engaged with a a variety of ceremonial events in the UK essentially doing double duty as a 'Royal' and as an executive in some of her many responsibilities. Princess Anne is not just a token ... but is a serious contributor!
I don't know anything about the publisher of this video ... and I think that the idea that Charles will do something radical is essentially BS ... but I am delighted to be reminded of the immense contibution that Princess Anne has made over decades and continues to make! I could be wrong ... but most likely not!

- everyone off guard people were left in
- shock when he named his sister princess
- an the new Queen taking that title away
- from Camila what made him decide to make
- such a bold move are there real reasons
- behind this or are people just imagining
- things let's dive in and see what's
- going on the British Monarchy has always
- had its fair share of drama with lots of
- history and family rivalry is making
- headlines while King Charles being the
- eldest son of Queen Elizabeth has always
- been in the public eye his sister
- Princess Anne tends to stay out of it
- she's been working hard behind the
- scenes showing a non-nonsense attitude
- and a genuine commitment to her royal
- duties even though she hasn't grabbed as
- much attention as some of her fancier
- relatives her efforts are clear now it
- looks like she might finally be taking a
- more prominent role than ever before
- before we get into the juicy details of
- this unexpected rumor it's good to
- 1:00
- understand how the British Monarchy is
- set up right now after Queen Elizabeth
- II passed away in 2022 her son King
- Charles III finally took the throne
- after waiting for a long time Camila his
- longtime partner became Queen Camila
- following the late Queen's wishes and
- getting parliament's nod at first this
- change seemed to happen without a hitch
- showing the monarchy's tradition of
- steady leadership while some people had
- their doubts the royal family and the
- public mostly seemed to support King
- Charles and queen Camila Princess Anne
- often called one of the hardest workking
- Royals kept doing her job with
- dedication and Grace she may not always
- be in the spotlight but she's remained
- committed to the crown it seemed
- unlikely that her standing in the royal
- family would change yet recent claims
- suggest that something unusual might be
- happening possibly shifting princess
- Anne's role in the monarchy the thought
- of her becoming Queen is definitely
- raising eyebrows out there what's really
- going on behind the scenes a lot of
- 2:01
- people are buzzing about this situation
- but to really get why it's such a big
- deal let's take a look at Princess an's
- journey in the royal family and how
- people have seen her change over time is
- this the start of something new for the
- monarchy let's dive into Anne's early
- life and schooling Anne Princess Royal
- was born on August 15th 1950 at 11:50

- on her royal duties kicking off a life
- dedicated to public service in the early
- '70s Anne had a brief fling with Andrew
- Parker BS who would later marry Camila
- 4:00
- Shand Charles's future wife she was also
- rumored to have dated Olympic equestrian
- Richard me around that time princess an
- is known as the hardest workking Royal
- because she's always busy with her
- duties back in 2014 Kevin S McLoud who
- was the Canadian secretary to the queen
- mentioned how dedicated she is saying
- she believes in keeping herself busy and
- making a positive impact by meeting as
- many people as she can in fact in

- world she's visited places like Norway

- her first official gig after finishing
- school she began representing the UK
- abroad traveling with her parents to
- 5:01
- Austria that same year she made her
- first trip to Australia in 1970 and over
- the years she has gone back multiple
- times for various official roles like
- being the colonel-in-chief of an
- Australian regiment one memorable visit
- was in 2009 when she attended a memorial
- service in Melbourne for the victims of
- the tragic Black Saturday bushfires in
- 1990 she made history by being the first
- member of the British royal family to
- visit the Soviet Union where she was
- warmly welcomed by president K gorbachov
- she kept those diplomatic ties strong
- and returned to Russia in August 2016 to
- celebrate the 75th anniversary of
- operation dervish a significant Arctic
- Convoy Mission from World War II of
- course her royal schedule hasn't always
- been smooth sailing in September 2016 a
- chest infection made her cancel several
- appearances but she bounced back quickly
- and traveled to sowak Malaysia for a
- short study tour in October
- 2016 then in April 2022 she and her
- 6:02
- husband went on a trip to Australia in
- Papua New Guinea to celebrate the
- Queen's Platinum Jubilee a standout
- moment came on September 12th 2022 when
- Princess Anne became the first woman to
- join the vigil of the princes at St
- Gil's cathedral in Edinburgh guarding
- her mother's coffin she also repeated
- this honor at Westminster Hall on
- September 16th what might she do next
- Princess Anne played a significant role
- when she signed Queen Elizabeth the
- second death certificate at Balmoral
- this shows just how personally connected
- she is to important moments in history
- known for her amazing dedication to
- helping others Princess Anne is involved
- with over 200 Charities and
- organizations her heart shines through
- her long-term work with save the
- children where she was president from
- 1970 to 2017 and continues to support as
- a patron because of her dedication she
- has traveled to places like Bangladesh
- Sierra Leone South Africa mosambique
- 7:00
- Ethiopia and Bosnia and heroina to see
- the Charities projects firsthand her
- efforts made such an impression that in
- 1990 the former president of zomia
- Kenneth K even nominated her for a Nobel
- Peace Prize in 1991 Anne started the
- Princess Royal trust for cares which has
- helped many people who care for family
- members with special needs she also
- plays a big role in St John Ambulance
- where she leads the cadets every year
- she attends the grand prior award
- reception to celebrate the young people
- involved in this organization plus she's
- the patron of St Andrew's first aid
- which focuses on teaching life-saving
- skills an's dedication to healthc care
- continued when she became the patron of
- Mercy Ships in 2021 a charity that runs
- the largest non-governmental Hospital
- ships for free surgeries and medical
- care but her commitment doesn't stop
- there she's also deeply involved in
- sports as a representative for the
- British group in the international
- Olympic Committee I ioc she has an
- 8:00
- important role in sports Administration
- she was part of the London organizing
- committee for the 2012 Olympics and is
- currently the president of the British
- Olympic Association in 2014 she had the
- honor of representing Great Britain at
- the Sochi Winter Olympics in Russia her
- love for sports goes back to 1985 when
- she became the president of the writing
- for the disabled Association after being
- their Patron for 14 years isn't it
- amazing how much she contributes to so
- many different areas Princess Anne is
- really active in student Sports and
- supports British universities and
- College of sport she's also made a big
- Mark in education after the Queen Mother
- retired in 1981 the graduates of the
- University of London chose her as
- Chancellor and she's been in that role
- ever since plus she was president of
- bafta from 1973 to 2001 but that's not
- all Anne has an important role in the
- church too in May 1996 she became Her
- Majesty's High Commissioner to the
- general assembly of of the Church of
- Scotland and she returned to this role
- 9:02
- in
- 2017 in 2007 Queen Elizabeth II named
- her Grandmaster of the royal Victorian
- order a title that used to belong to her
- grandmother an also makes waves in
- science and Academia she's a royal
- fellow of the Royal Society and was the
- first Royal fellow of the Academy of
- Medical Sciences by 2022 she became one
- of four royal fellows of the Royal
- Society joining her brother King Charles
- III her nephew Prince William and her
- uncle the Duke of Kent continuing her
- family's academic Legacy she became
- Chancellor of the University of
- Edinburgh in 2011 following in her
- Father's Footsteps after he stepped down
- in
- 2010 that same year she took on several
- leadership positions including president
- of the city and Guilds of London
- Institute and master of the corporation
- of Trinity house all roles her dad held
- before she's also still the president of
- the Commonwealth study conference which
- her father started and in 201 23 she
- 10:00
- took over as president of the
- Commonwealth wargraves commission from
- her uncle with a strong work ethic and a
- real sense of Duty Princess Anne shows
- what it means to serve keeping her part
- in the royal family as impactful as ever
- people often see her as the Royal
- Family's trustiest anchor and a beacon
- of good old-fashioned Public Service
- which she's built through hard work and
- dedication since turning 18 what else
- has she done that people admire did you
- know Anne has taken part in over 20
- 20,000 public events that shows just how
- dedicated she is to the British people
- even though she was born into royalty
- she's always done things her own way
- when she was younger people called her a
- royal Renegade because she decided not
- to give her kids Royal titles even
- though she was seen as The Spar of the
- air this Choice really showed her wish
- to lead a more relatable and downto
- Earth life but her journey with the
- media hasn't always been easy when she
- was a new Royal the Press often painted
- her as aloof and hauy going so far as to
- 11:02
- give her the nickname her royal rudeness
- one memorable moment was back in 1982 at
- the badminton horse trials when she told
- photographers to Naf off that stirred up
- some chatter but it also made her
- reputation as someone who speaks her
- mind Vanity Fair noted that she got her
- father's sharp tongue and quick wit
- which really fits her non nonsense style
- looking back at her early years Anne
- acknowledged it took her about 10 years
- to really feel confident in her public
- role working with save the children
- pushed her to grasp what the charity was
- doing on the ground and those early
- trips helped her understand things
- better often called the hardest workking
- Royal her efforts are clear from the
- massive number of events she has
- participated in from 2002 to 2022 she
- completed a staggering 1188 engagements
- more than any other Royal because of her
- dedication she's become one of Britain's
- favorite Royals Camila Tomy from from
- the telegraph even called her a National
- 12:01
- Treasure and celebrated her as one of
- Britain's unique characters she sticks
- to Royal protocol but isn't afraid to
- bend the rules when it feels right which
- adds to her charm and makes her stand
- out and it's not just her Public Work
- ANS down toe Vibe shines through in
- everything she does isn't it interesting
- how she balances royalty with staying
- relatable she likes to drive herself to
- events and takes care of her own hair
- and makeup in fact she's even gotten
- pulled over for speeding twice because
- she was running late for Royal
- appointments you'll notice she doesn't
- shake hands during events saying it
- would be too tricky to greet everyone
- that way but that hasn't hurt her
- popularity at all people often see her
- doing everyday stuff like fixing fences
- at her home in gatam or waiting in line
- for portable toilets at her daughter's
- horse shows this downto earth side of an
- really appeals to many what else makes
- her different from the other Royals well
- she supports some lesser known causes
- for example she backs the wet wheels
- 13:00
- Foundation which encourages accessible
- sailing and the National Lighthouse
- Museum showing her interest in things
- that don't always get attention when
- people ask if she plans to retire
- especially during interviews for her
- 60th and 70th birthdays she firmly says
- no she takes inspiration from her
- parents and makes it clear that she's
- committed to her royal duties and isn't
- thinking about slowing down people
- describe her Public Image as graceful
- but with a strong straightforward
- attitude ude she doesn't put up with
- nonsense which many find appealing still
- she balances that sharp wit with
- kindness and manners on top of her royal
- work Anne has also made a name for
- herself in fashion she's been recognized
- as a style icon for her classic and
- eco-friendly choices long before it was
- fashionable British Vogue editor Edward
- enninful even called her a true style
- icon for her commitment to sustainable
- fashion her style combines practicality
- and consistency often showcasing British
- 14:00
- brands with her go-to looks being Tweed
- and tailored suits she's not afraid to
- recycle outfits either she wore the same
- floral dress to the wedding of the
- Prince of Wales in 1981 and again at
- lady Rose Windsor's wedding in 2008 plus
- she serves as the patron of the UK
- fashion and textile Association and
- loves bold patterns and bright colors
- how cool is that Princess Anne often
- shows off her love for horses and her
- busy life through her fashion choices
- back in the 70s and ' 80s her wardrobe
- had big puff sleeves bright floral
- patterns cozy Cardigans and colorful
- stripes that fit right in with the
- styles of that era what's interesting is
- that she's one of the few women in the
- royal family who frequently wears a
- military uniform you might notice that
- she rarely goes to Royal events without
- a brooch and her hat collection ranges
- from jockey caps to striking
- eye-catching hats in 2020 she even
- handed out the queen of Elizabeth II
- award for British design at London
- 15:02
- Fashion Week showing her impact on the
- fashion scene over the years she's
- graced the cover of British Vogue three
- times starting with her first appearance
- at just 21 in the September 1971 issue
- followed by more covers in May and
- November of
- 1973 when she got engaged to Mark
- Phillips recently she was also featured
- in a story for the May 20 to20 edition
- of Vanity Fair her long- lasting style
- and charm earned her spot on tatler's
- 2024 list of the most glamorous Royals
- in Europe proving she's truly a fashion
- icon now when you think about who should
- be Queen it's hard not to notice
- Princess Anne she stands out as one of
- the most dedicated and down-to-earth
- members of the royal family even if
- she's not next in line for the throne
- her life has been all about hard work
- supporting the crown through various
- Charities and public duties people have
- come to love her for her strong work
- ethic and practical mindset long before
- her sister-in-law Princess Diana earned
- 16:01
- the title of the people's Princess Anne
- had already won over hearts with her
- genuine dedication to her role and her
- modest nature her great reputation has
- taken years to build starting from her
- early days in horse riding and
- competitions did you know she takes on
- over 500 Royal engagements each year
- it's an impressive number and she does
- it all without looking for fame still
- her commitment and loyalty to her duties
- naturally draw attention making her
- highly respected unlike many she doesn't
- seek the spotlight she simply focuses on
- what she needs to accomplish a lot of
- people really admire Anne for everything
- she's done it makes you wonder why
- despite her strong commitment to the
- monarchy and her popularity she was
- never seriously considered for the
- throne especially with some of the
- trouble that happened with her younger
- brothers prince Andrew and Prince Edward
- both of them have had their ups and
- downs with the public over the years but
- Anne has always been reli and kept doing
- her job gracefully this raises questions
- 17:02
- about where she stands in the royal
- family when King Charles married Camila
- Parker bows in 2005 the royal family was
- still dealing with the sadness from
- Princess Diana's death out of respect
- for Diana Camila was named the Duchess
- of Cornwall instead of the Princess of
- Wales this was a tricky situation to
- balance honoring Diana's memory while
- helping Camila fit into the royal family
- over time Camila worked quietly to
- change how people saw her she got
- involved with different charities stayed
- calm and supported Charles which helped
- her win over many fans in Britain by the
- time Charles became king Camila was
- officially called Queen consort which
- was a big deal but it's different from
- being a queen in the traditional sense
- like Queen Elizabeth II was even though
- Camila has made great strides in how the
- public views her her role as Queen
- consort still raises some eyebrows there
- are Whispers from some circles in the
- royal family and among the public who
- aren't fully on board with her in this
- 18:00
- position people often compare her to
- other Royals who are more loved like
- princess an and Catherine The Duchess of
- Cambridge now Princess of Wales Camila's
- Journey from being a contentious figure
- to earning respect in the royal family
- has been amazing but there are still
- some questions hanging in the air one
- interesting thought in Royal
- conversations is whether Princess Anne
- could have taken the throne instead of
- her brother Charles this idea raises
- plenty of questions could something that
- big ever really happen with the current
- laws about who becomes king or queen and
- if it did what changes would that bring
- if things were to change what would
- happen to Camila's title as Queen
- consort right now the British Monarchy
- has a clear line of succession after
- King Charles his eldest son Prince
- William the Duke of Cambridge is next in
- line followed by his kids princess an
- though very popular and respected is way
- down the list
- for her to become Queen there would need
- 19:01
- to be a huge shakeup in the Royal line
- or some unusual circumstances where
- people ahead of her would need to step
- aside imagine though if public opinion
- shifted dramatically or the royal family
- made some big decisions that changed
- their responsibilities with Anne's
- popularity experience and commitment she
- could be a great choice during
- challenging times if the monarchy needed
- stability while facing uncertainties an
- could be seen as someone who rep
- represents the core values of Duty and
- loyalty that defined Queen Elizabeth
- II's time on the throne as questions
- about the monarchy's relevance grow
- having Princess Anne Step Up could feel
- like a throwback to those important
- values at the same time people are
- talking about the possibility of Queen
- Camila losing her title if such changes
- were to happen Camila's title as Queen
- consort is closely tied to her marriage
- with King Charles if he were to step
- down or lost his position for any reason
- she might lose her title but it's much
- 20:00
- harder to imagine her being stripped of
- it while Charles is still King yet these
- rumors keep going because people compare
- Camila to other Royals especially an
- these comparisons show how different
- their roles are and how the public views
- each of them while Camila has worked
- hard to fit into Royal life an's ongoing
- service in down toe nature set her apart
- in the eyes of many so what do you think
- will happen next people often wonder
- what might have happened if Princess
- Anne had been more in line for the
- throne during a different time just
- thinking about her unexpectedly becoming
- Queen Sparks a lot of curiosity about
- the
- possibilities now let's dive into
- Camila's journey and her place in the
- royal family Camila officially became
- Queen consort on September 8th 2022 the
- same day her husband Charles III took
- the throne after Queen Elizabeth II
- passed away just 2 days later on
- September 10th she joined her her
- stepson Prince William at the accession
- 21:01
- council where Charles was named King it
- was a huge moment as Camila saw her
- husband step into such an important role
- in the world right after she became
- Queen consort Camila made a surprising
- move by changing an old tradition
- instead of keeping the title lady in
- waiting she introduced a modern role
- called Queen's companion this new role
- would still allow her to help during
- official events but was less formal
- meaning she wouldn't be tied up with
- daily Royal duties like answering
- letters or managing schedules in early
- 2023 on February 13th Camila's Royal
- activities took a pause when Buckingham
- Palace announced she tested positive for
- covid-19 this led her to cancel some
- public appearances but she stayed
- present in other ways throughout the
- year just a few months later on May 6th
- 2023 she was crowned alongside Charles
- in a grand ceremony at Westminster Abbey
- which Millions tuned in to watch then on
- June 16th 2023 Charles honored her by
- 22:01
- making her a member of the prestigious
- order of the thistle Camila continued to
- take part in significant Royal events in
- July she was with Charles at a national
- service at St giles's Cathedral when he
- received the honors of Scotland
- interestingly unlike Prince Phillip she
- doesn't get a parliamentary annuity her
- activities are funded Through The
- Sovereign grant instead over the course
- of 2023 Camila traveled with Charles on
- state visits to places like Germany
- France in Kenya showing her growing role
- as Queen consort in November she stood
- by him for his first state opening of
- parliament as King in 2024 Charles was
- diagnosed with cancer and Camila stepped
- up to take his place making history as
- she led important events like
- Commonwealth day and the Royal Mii
- service duties usually meant for the
- Monarch she really made her Mark
- especially when she joined Charles for
- the 80th anniversary of dday in Normandy
- that June so what do you think about her
- taking charge when Camila married
- 23:02
- Charles she was given the title her
- Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall
- reflecting his title as duke but in
- Scotland people called her her Royal
- Highness The Duchess of Roth even though
- she could have used the title Princess
- of Wales she chose not to wanting to
- show respect for how people felt about
- the late Princess Diana instead she went
- with her husband's highest title in a
- feminine way after Prince Philip passed
- away in 2021 Charles took on his titles
- and Camila briefly became the Duchess of
- Edinburgh until Charles became king the
- next year when they got married in 2005
- it was announced that Camila would take
- the title princess consort when Charles
- became king hoping to ease any mixed
- feelings from the public even though
- there was no official basis for that
- title it was just a way to soften her
- role But as time passed and people
- became more accepting of her that plan
- faded away away in 2022 Queen Elizabeth
- 24:01
- II publicly shared that she wanted
- Camila to be known as Queen consort when
- Charles took the throne after Charles
- became King on September 8th 2022 Camila
- officially took on this title At first
- she was called her majesty the queen
- consort to set her apart from the late
- Queen Elizabeth se but after her
- coronation on May 6 2023 her title got
- simplified to her majesty the queen
- keeping in line with what pass Queens
- consort have had Royal titles in the
- British Monarchy are pretty hard to lose
- usually needing something major for that
- to happen now with Camila as Queen
- consort what will her Reign look like
- Camila has worked hard for years to
- support the crown so if she were to lose
- her title it would mean something
- significant is going on but what if she
- decides to step back on her own it could
- happen because of public pressure or
- personal reasons while that might sound
- surprising it has happened before in
- Royal history when titles changed hands
- 25:01
- due to shifting circumstances if the
- chatter about Princess Anne rising in
- rank and Camila possibly stepping down
- is true it likely reflects some
- complicated power plays within the royal
- family the Dynamics there have always
- been tricky with family members having
- different priorities and Visions with
- her strong connection to her late mother
- Queen Elizabeth II Princess Anne might
- serve as a steady presence especially
- during times of change an has has gained
- a lot of respect for her commitment to
- the monarchy and she often goes about
- her royal duties without trying to be in
- the spotlight some key figures in the
- royal family may see her as the right
- person to guide the monarchy during
- challenging times especially now when
- the crown is under a lot of scrutiny on
- the flip side Camila's role as Queen
- consort has been controversial mainly
- because of the memory surrounding
- Princess Diana even though Camila has
- tried hard to improve how the public
- sees her many people still remember the
- past struggles between her Diana and
- 26:01
- Charles if there's any push for Anne to
- take on a bigger role it might come from
- people believing she's more respected
- across the board some people in the
- royal family and even among the public
- might feel that an is the right person
- to reflect the values that Queen
- Elizabeth II stood for these values
- might be even more important for the
- monarchy right now you see the British
- public has always had a tricky
- relationship with the Royals they
- respect the monarchy
- which has been around for centuries but
- they also wonder if it still matters
- today in this changing World an stepping
- up could bring back the ideas of service
- and dedication that her mother valued so
- much the thought of an taking on a
- bigger role has brought a mix of
- surprise and excitement many see her as
- someone who could help secure the future
- of the monarchy she has a great
- reputation which makes her a solid
- Choice especially when compared to the
