US POLITICS 2024 BIG MEDIA MISSTEP MSNBC: Bob Woodward: 'Super mistake' for Washington Post to not endorse a candidate PLAY YOUTUBE VIDEO Original article: outube.com/watch?v=Lo2rtqhvjRk Peter Burgess COMMENTARY My reaction to the Washington Post is simple ... the owner, Jeff Bezos of Amazon fame is a greedy dumb wimp! Bezos may be one of the richest men ever ... but his judgement is terrible! In this MSNBC interview with Bob Woodward, there is the suggestion that Donald Trump might have leaned on Bezos to make an 'endorsement not happen!' That would very much be in character for Donald Trump. So far, there is no 'hard' evidence that this is what actually happened! MORE COMMENTARY November 9th 2024 ... Things can change in a few short days. My commentary above was made almost exactly two weeks ago and a week before polling day. This update is almost a week after polling day, and everything that was written during the campaign before polling ... at any rate, what was written that I read ... has turned out to have been wrong! Mot just a little bit wrong ... but massively wrong! Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein are a little bit younger than me, but not by much. Early in their career they did not have the luxury of AI and had to use their human brains to figure things out. I think of AI as being about 'Augmented Ignorance' rather than anything to do with 'Intelligence'! So something clearly went wrong with media analysis and reporting in the last few days, weeks and perhaps months ... that much is clear! But what is the reality, and what actually happened and what caused the high profile pundits in general to 'get it wrong' is much less clear and a lot more confused! I remember being warned about 'group think' early in my own career. I don't remember when I was first introduced to the idea and warned about it, but it could have been more than 60 years ago! My 'gut' is telling me that the media is going to embrace 'group think' in the immediate future to help them explain how they got everything they were reporting on so wrong! I am sure that there will be a lot more on this media fail in the days and weeks ahead. Sadly this will likely focus on avoiding blame rather than the more difficult job of identifying and fixing the one or many things that did not work! Peter Burgess
