0:00 be here this is a coffee clutch look at my coffee clutch mug wow isn't that great Saturday coffee clutch but it's not Saturday the last time we did a Saturday coffee clutch on Tuesday night you remember no I'm trying not to remember was was June 27th and you and I tried when we we were watching Trump and Biden and we were trying uh you know with all of you who are watching we just tried to keep us keep us all in Fairly good form and pretty good spirit and I remember saying to you Heather well uh Biden did okay in the second half yeah and I went yeah and my shoulders I think my shoulders went up like that and well it's a different world I mean we are now in a new world Harris is 10 weeks later 10 yes a brand new world but we're eight weeks to the election so we're very close this is a big deal and U Heather you know K Harris has never debated in a presidential debate before this is Donald Trump's eighth presidential 1:03 debate if you count the three he did with uh Hillary Clinton and the three he did with Joe Biden in 2020 and the one he did with Joe Biden in uh this year uh the 2024 so Donald Trump is a very experienced presidential debater compared to KLA Harris he's been around doing this stuff for n years and she's been here for 7 weeks and let's think since July 21st how much she has gotten done I mean first of all she accepted the torch being passed to her she found a running mate she launched a campaign she did the DNC she's raised record-breaking amounts of money she has decided and put out her policy positions I mean all of this has been happening it's been very busy for her and now we get to see how she does in her first presidential debate and I'm hoping it will be fantastic what are you expecting and then what are your deepest dark as fears my I'm hoping it'll be fantastic too and I I can't I can't help sharing 2:06 with you Heather and everybody who's watching a little bit of my you know I I used to call it cautious optimism I'm calling it nauseous optimism and the nausea is coming from the fact that the stakes are so high uh I mean this you know when we think about what happened on June 27th and how history was changed as a result of that debate we are now really on the cusp of making and seeing history change perhaps again now kamla Harris I thought the polls were going to show her way out in front of Donald Trump but everybody was brought up short by the Sunday poll the times Sienna poll that showed her running basically neck and neck I mean if anything Donald Trump had a slight lead on her uh and how can that be I mean I don't know how you felt Heather but my feeling was this can't be right this can't posibly right there there not that many people in America 3:03 who would possibly be for Donald Trump at this hour knowing everything we know about him I know well first of all there seemed to be but also polls are just polls and we keep hearing this there are snapshot in time they get more correct they get tighter closer to the actual election and then we frantically talk about them hour upon hour so the polls are kind of Killing Me Slowly here but yes I mean these are is one poll but also there's so many persuadables there's so many people who want more information we don't know what happens to those who are not actually completing the polls and a lot of poll work granted I'm not a pollster is trying to quantify hunches right is trying to figure out how do we um we don't know that for sure so let's come up with assumptions that can make a reasonable predictive answer to something hether that's problematic I am so glad you're not a PO I mean I I 4:00 mean I I I I love you dearly but if you were pollster I would just you know I'd have second thoughts but here's the thing my polls would be great though sound like Donald Trump here here's the thing uh about now again I'm I'm relying on a whole bunch of polls but a large percentage of America 40% 42% are absolutely with Donald Trump come hell or high water it's mostly come hell uh another 40% of America are and this is not all that different from what it was in 2020 absolutely against Trump this includes some never Trump Republicans so we're really talking about 20% in the middle and of the middle interestingly what we're learning is that many people in the bidle simply don't know kamla Harris everybody knows Donald Trump I mean for the last eight nine years he has Weedle his way into our brains I can't get him out of my brain I dream about Donald Trump but interestingly 5:03 although she's been vice president for four years many people still don't know who she is so one of her challenges tonight is to introduce herself to America as a the person we know she is a tough very competent very strong uh person who will be president who is capable of being president so she's got to come out and she's got to be sane and strong and coherent that's one thing right yeah but also coherent I mean it's asking a lot I mean it's no it's it's get relative to Trump it's asking a lot I mean she also I would I would hope can get Trump bait him to be his most incoherent self which shouldn't be that difficult I mean that's it but she can I think she can't just show up and do fine right we really want her to have some zingers some left hooks some memorable points I hope she gets past the moderators past Trump God 6:03 knows and looks to America and kind of says this is a clown show and I am here to help I mean I'm hoping there's a connection now we know not every persuadable is going to be watching this so I'm hoping that after the debate she gets out there and she's also doing more news shows and getting on stuff that more people are seeing so this we have to remember this is part of a larger eight-week play yes but eight week goes by in a Flash I mean that's the other thing even though people are now much more focused on this campaign than ever before and she and Tim wals are going to go out in fact Tim wals is already out on the hustings right now today but um obviously there is going to be and has to be much much more uh and that's why tonight is so important a large percentage of voting adults are watching tonight by the way uh Heather I'm not 7:01 you probably know this but maybe some of you who are watching don't but Americans generally speaking only about 60% of Americans vote in a presidential election except what we saw in 2020 was that 70% Americans voted I mean a a record high number and even in the midterm elections of of 20122 uh we had a record number for midterm elections so people are genuinely interested they want to hear what she has to say and I think there were some learning since 2016 right there was overconfidence and not enough people came out and then now we are trying to correct for that right we have two minutes we have two minutes until something's happening by the way someone just what's happening something's happening in two minutes debate is happening there's let's get ready by the way can I just say I'm so grateful watching this with you and everyone else who's willing to suffer through it with us I am too I would not watch it with anybody else and by the way thank you all of you out there for for being with us I mean this is a watch 8:05 party but it's also uh a way of reinforcing and reassuring and helping all of us get through all of this and one thing yeah what we'll be doing is we'll do some factchecking we know he's going to do what's called a Gish Gallop which is the debate term for the tactic of going rapid fire barrage of non-stop lies so the person on the other side of the debate doesn't have time to even react and counter them I think he's been Gish Galloping for now n years I mean it's been one big Gish gallop and the thing is that he says it's an intentional he uses the term weave have you noticed that he says that he's been his efforts to actually talk to an audience uh may sound like a word salad or Worse may sound incoherent to most most of us who have logical Minds Heather you took logic in college I took 9:02 logic Donald Trump was not included in it we read no case studies on that guy in either direction and that's but that's my point the reason there are no case studies on Donald Trump and der logic is he is his mind is not uh logical he does not go from A to B he goes from a to the birds from the birds to the whales the whal whales to the stakes the tenisu but also weave is so interesting because that's a boxing term Bob and weave right it's another machismo you know piece of wording he's taken over to as his when that's not what's actually happening well that's another thing to that's another thing to watch tonight uh because uh KLA Harris really does have to differentiate herself from Biden because a lot of the public wants a new beginning yeah and uh but how does she do that and also maintain her connection to the Biden Administration right that's 10:01 going to be one of the biggest challenges ahead for her tonight and stay on the offensive not the defensive so I think we're gonna start any minute so Bob when you want us to pause we'll pause a few times to counter lies to provide clarification you just tell me and here we go we're gonna have David mure and lindsy Davis and I'm NAD Modera tonight is a high pressure moment for both vice president kamla Harris and former president Donald Trump polls showed that that the race is a coin flip and a good performance could provide momentum for either candidate as they enter the final Sprint to election day now just 55 days away this is the first and perhaps only time we will see these two candidates share a stage before the election and the debate begins right now and Lindsay Davis good evening I'm David M and thank you for joining us for tonight's ABC News presidential debate we want to welcome viewers watching on ABC around the world tonight vice president kamla 11:01 Harris and president Donald Trump are just moments away from taking the stage in this unprecedented race for president and I'm lindsy Davis tonight's meeting could be the most consequential event of their campaigns with election day now less than two months away for vice president kamla Harris this is her first debate since President Biden withdrew from the race on July 21st of course that decision followed his debate against President Donald Trump in June since then this race has taken on an entirely new Dynamic and that brings us to the R of tonight's debate 90 minutes with two commercial breaks no topics or questions have been shared with the campaigns the candidates will have 2 minutes to answer questions and this is the clock that's what they'll be seeing two minutes for rebuttal and one minute for follow-ups clarifications or responses their microphones will only be turned on when it's their turn to speak no pre-written notes allowed there is no audience here tonight in this Hall at the national Constitution Center this is an intimate setting for two candidates who have never met president Trump won the coin toss he chose to deliver for the final closing statement of the evening vice president Harris elected the podium to the right so let's now 12:04 welcome the candidates to the stage vice president kamla Harris and president Donald 12:15 Trump KLA Harris have a good debate see you have fun thank you welcome to you both it's wonderful 12:23 to have you it's an honor to have you both here tonight good evening we are looking forward to a spirited and thoughtful debate so let's get started I 12:30 want to begin tonight with the issue that voters repeatedly say is their number one issue and that is the economy 12:35 and the cost of living in this country vice president Harris you and president Trump were elected four years ago and 12:41 your opponent on the stage here tonight often asks his supporters are you better off than you were four years ago when it 12:47 comes to the economy do you believe Americans are better off than they were four years ago so I was raised as a 12:55 middle class kid and I am actually the only person on this stage who has a plan 13:00 that is about lifting up the middle class and working people of America I believe in the ambition the aspirations 13:07 the dreams of the American people and that is why I imagine and have actually a plan to build what I call an 13:14 opportunity economy because here's the thing we know that we have a a shortage 13:19 of of homes and housing and the cost of housing is too expensive for far to many people we know that young families need 13:26 support to raise their children and I intend on extending a tax cut for those 13:32 families of $6,000 which is the largest child tax credit that we have given in a long time so that those young families 13:39 can afford to buy a crib buy a car seat buy clothes for their children my 13:46 passion one of them is small businesses I was actually my mother raised my sister and me but there was a woman who 13:52 helped raise us we call her our second mother she was a small business owner I love our small businesses my plan is to 13:59 give a $50,000 tax deduction to Startup small businesses knowing they are part of the 14:05 backbone of America's economy my opponent on the other hand his plan is to do what he has done before which is 14:13 to provide a tax cut for billionaires and big corporations which will result 14:18 in5 trillion dollar to America's deficit my opponent has a plan that I call the Trump's sales tax which would be a 20% 14:26 tax on everyday Goods that you rely on to get through the month economists have 14:32 said that that Trump sales tax would actually result for middle class families in about $4,000 more a year 14:41 because of his policies and his ideas about what should be the backs of 14:47 middleclass people paying for tax cuts for billionaires president Trump I'll give you two minutes first of all I have no 14:54 sales tax that's an incorrect statement she knows that uh we're doing tariffs on other countries other countries are 15:00 going to finally after 75 years pay us back for all that we've done for the world and the Tariff will be substantial 15:08 in some cases I took in billions and billions of dollars as you know from China in fact they never took the Tariff 15:14 off because it was so much money they can't it would totally destroy everything that they've set out to do 15:19 they're taking in billions of dollars from China and other places they This Is A Lie when I had it and yet I had no 15:26 inflation uh look we've had a terrible economy because inflation has which is 15:32 really known as a country Buster it breaks up countries we have inflation like very few people have ever seen 15:38 before probably the worst in our nation's history okay that's being generous because many 15:45 things 80% higher than they were just a few years ago this has been a disaster 15:51 for people for the middle class but for every class on top of that we have millions of people pouring into our 15:57 country from prison and jails from mental institutions insane asylums and 16:03 they're coming in and they're taking jobs that are occupied right now by African-Americans and Hispanics and also 16:10 unions unions are going to be affected very soon and you see what's happening you see what's happening with towns 16:15 throughout the United States you look at Springfield Ohio you look at Aurora in 16:21 Colorado they are taking over the towns they're taking over buildings they're going in violently these are the people 16:28 that she and and Biden led into our country and they're destroying our country they're dangerous they're at the 16:35 highest level of criminality and we have to get them out we have to get them out fast I created one of the greatest 16:41 economies in the history of our country I'll do it again and even better IM lost 16:47 two and half million job during this debate but uh I would like to let vice president Harris respond on the economy 16:52 here well I would love to let's talk about what Donald Trump left us Donald 16:59 Trump left us the worst unemployment since the Great Depression Donald Trump 17:04 left us the worst Public Health epidemic in a century Donald Trump left us the 17:12 worst attack on our democracy since the Civil War absolutely and what we have 17:19 done is clean up Donald Trump's mess what we have done and what I intend to do is build on what we know are the 17:26 aspirations and the hopes of the American people but I'm going to tell tell yall in this debate tonight you're going to hear from the same old tired 17:33 Playbook a bunch of Lies Grievances and name calling what you're going to hear 17:39 tonight is a detailed and dangerous Plan called project 2025 that the former 17:45 president intends on implementing if he were elected to again I believe very 17:50 strongly that the American people want a president who understands the importance 17:55 of bringing us together KN we have so much more in common than and what separates us and I pledge to you to be a 18:01 president for all Americans Trump give you a minut to respond number one I have nothing to do as you know and as she 18:07 knows better than anyone I have nothing to do with project 2025 uh that's out there I haven't read it I don't want to 18:14 read it purposly I'm not going to read it this was a group of people that got together they came up with some ideas 14 18:20 of them worked for it makes no difference I have nothing to do everybody knows I'm an open book everybody knows what I'm going to do cut 18:26 taxes very substantially and create a great economy like I did before we had the greatest economy we got hit with a 18:33 pandemic and the pandemic was not since 197 where 100 million people died has 18:39 there been anything like it we did a phenomenal job with the pandemic we handed them over a country where the 18:46 economy and where the stock market was higher than it was before the pandemic came in nobody's ever seen anything like 18:52 it we made ventilators for the entire world we got gowns we got masks we did 18:58 things that nobody thought possible and people give me credit for rebuilding the military they give me credit for a lot 19:03 of things but not enough credit for the great job we did with the but the only jobs they got were bounceback jobs these 19:09 were jobs bounce back and it bounced back and it went to their benefit but I was the one that created them they know 19:16 it and so does everybody else you're wrong a million people died worse record in this country than any other has plan 19:23 for you and when you look at his economic plan it's all about tax breaks for the richest people I am offering 19:30 what I describe as an opportunity economy and the best Economist in our 19:35 country if not the world have reviewed our relative plans for the future of 19:41 America what Goldman Sachs has said is that Donald Trump's plan would make the 19:46 economy worse mine would strengthen the economy what the Wharton School has said is Donald Trump's plan would actually 19:54 explode the deficit 16 Nobel laurates have described red his economic plan as 20:00 something that would increase inflation and by the middle of next year would invite a recession you just have to look 20:08 at where we are and where we stand on the issues and I'd invite you to know that Donald Trump actually has no plan 20:15 for you because he is more interested in defending himself than he is in looking out for you absolutely good point that 20:23 to say look I went to the Wharton School of finance and many of those professors the top professors think my plan is a 20:29 brilliant plan it's a great plan it's a plan that's gonna bring up our our worth our value as a country it's going to 20:35 make people want to be able to go and work create jobs and create a lot of 20:41 good solid money for our for our country and just to finish off uh she doesn't 20:47 have a plan she copied Biden's plan and it's like four sentences like that like 20:53 run Spot Run four sentences that are just oh we'll try and lower taxes she 20:59 doesn't have a plan take a look at her plan she doesn't have a plan Mr President I do want to drill down on 21:04 something you both brought up uh the vice president brought off tariffs you responded and let's drill down on this 21:09 because your plan is what she calls is essentially a national sales tax your proposal calls for tariffs as you 21:15 pointed out here on Foreign imports across the board you recently said that you might double your plan imposing 21:20 tariffs up to 20% on Goods coming into this country as you know many economists say that with tariffs at that level 21:26 costs are then passed on to the consumer vice president Harris has argued it'll mean higher prices on gas food clothing 21:33 medication arguing it costs the typical family nearly $4,000 a year do you 21:38 believe Americans can afford higher prices because of tariffs they're not going to have higher prices what's going to have and who's going to have higher 21:45 prices is China and all of the countries that have been ripping us off for years I charged I was the only president ever 21:52 China was paying us hundreds of billions of dollars and so were other countries and you know if she doesn't like them 21:59 they should have gone out and they should have immediately cut the tariffs but those tariffs are there three and a half years now under their 22:05 Administration which is a sales we taken billions of dollars hundreds of billions 22:11 of dollars I had no inflation virtually no inflation they had the highest inflation perhaps in the history of our 22:17 country because I've never seen a worse period of time people can't go out and buy cereal or bacon or eggs or anything 22:24 else these the people of our country are absolutely dying with what they've done 22:30 they destroyed the economy and all you have to do is look at a poll the polls say 80 and 85 and even 90% that the 22:38 Trump economy was great that their economy was terrible president Harris I do want to ask for your resp you heard 22:44 with the president said there because the Biden Administration did keep a number of the Trump tariffs in place so 22:49 how do you respond well let's be clear that the Trump Administration resulted in a trade deficit one of the highest 22:56 we've ever seen in the history of America he invited trade Wars you want to talk about his deal with China what 23:03 he ended up doing is under Donald Trump's presidency he ended up selling American chips to China to help them 23:12 improve and modernize their military basically sold us out when a policy 23:18 about China should be in making sure the United States of America wins the competition for the 21st century which 23:25 means focusing on the details of what that requires focusing on relationships 23:30 with our allies focusing on investing in american-based technology so that we win 23:35 the race on AI on Quantum Computing focusing on what we need to do to 23:41 support America's Workforce so that we don't end up having the on the short end of the stick in terms of workers rights 23:49 but what Donald Trump did let's talk about this with Co is he actually thanked president XI for what he did 23:57 during Co look at his tweet thank you president XI exclamation point when we 24:03 know that she was responsible for lacking and not giving us transparency 24:08 about the origins of covid President Trump I'll let you respond first of all they bought their chips from Taiwan we 24:15 hardly make chips anymore because of uh philosophies like they have and policies 24:20 like they have I don't say her because she has no policy everything that she believed three years ago and four years 24:27 ago is out the window she's going to My Philosophy now in fact I was going to send her a Maga hat she's gone to My 24:33 Philosophy but if she ever got elected she change it I think it will be the end 24:38 of our country she's a Marxist everybody knows she's a Marxist her father's a Marxist Professor an economics 24:46 and but when you look at what she's done to our country and when you look at these millions and millions of people 24:52 that are pouring into our country monthly where it's I believe 21 million people not the 15 people say and I think 24:59 it's a lot higher than the 21 that's bigger than New York State pouring in and just look at what they're doing to 25:05 our country they're criminals many of these people coming in are criminals and that's bad for our economy too you know 25:12 you mentioned before we'll talk about immigration later well bad immigration is the worst thing that can happen to 25:17 our economy they have and she has destroyed our country with policy 25:24 million jobs have been created under Harris they presal term in history I 25:30 want to turn to the issue of abortion president Trump you've often touted that you were able to kill roie Wade last 25:36 year you said that you were proud to be the most pro-life president in American history then last month you said that 25:43 your Administration would be great for women and their Reproductive Rights in your home state of Florida you surprised 25:49 many uh with regard to your six-week abortion ban because you initially had said that it was too short and you said 25:54 quote I'm going to be voting that we need more than 6 weeks but then the very next day you revers course and said you 26:01 would vote to support the six-week ban vice president Harris says that women shouldn't trust you on the issue of of 26:08 abortion because you've changed your position so many times therefore why should they trust you well the reason 26:14 I'm doing that vote is because the plan is as you know the vote is they have 26:19 abortion in the ninth month they even have and you can look at the governor of West Virginia the previous governor of 26:25 West Virginia not the current governor is doing an excellent job but the governor before he said the baby will be 26:32 born and we will decide what to do with the baby in other words we'll execute the baby and that's why I did that 26:38 because that predominates because they're radical the Democrats are radical in that and her Vice presal 26:45 which I think is a hor pick by the way for our country because he is really out of it but her vice presidential pick 26:52 says abortion in the ninth month is absolutely fine he also says execution 26:58 after birth it's an execution no longer abortion because the baby is borns are in the first weeks and that's not okay 27:04 with me the vote but what I did is something for 52 years they've been 27:10 trying to get roie wade into the states and through the uh genius and and heart 27:17 and strength of six Supreme Court Justices we were able to do that now I 27:24 believe in the exceptions for rape incest and life of the mother I believe strongly in it Ronald Reagan did also 27:30 85% of Republicans do exceptions very important but we were able to get it and 27:36 now states are voting on it and for the first time you're going to see look this is an issue that's torn our country 27:43 apart for 52 years it has not every legal scholar every Democrat every 27:49 Republican liberal conservative they all wanted this issue to be brought back to the states where the people could vote 27:55 and that's what happened happened now Ohio the vote was somewhat Liberal 28:01 Kansas the vote was somewhat liberal much more liberal than people would have thought but each individual state is 28:08 voting it's the vote of the people now it's not tied up in the federal government I did a great service in 28:13 doing it it took courage to do it and the Supreme Court had great courage in doing it and I give tremendous credit to 28:19 those six justices there is no state in country where it is legal to kill a baby after born mad vice president want to 28:26 get your response to president Trump well as I said you're going to hear a bunch of lies and that's not actually a 28:31 surprising fact let's understand how we got here Donald Trump hand selected 28:38 three members of the United States Supreme Court with the intention that they would undo the protections of roie 28:43 Wade and they did exactly as he intended and now in over 20 states there are 28:50 Trump abortion bans which make it criminal for a doctor or nurse to 28:57 provide Health Care in one state it provides prison for life Trump abortion 29:02 bans that make no exception even for rape and incest which understand what that means a survivor of a crime of 29:09 violation to their body does not have the right to make a decision about what happens to their body next that is 29:17 immoral and one does not have to abandon their faith or deeply held beliefs to 29:23 agree the government and Donald Trump certainly should not be telling telling a woman what to do with her body I have 29:31 talked with women around our country you want to talk about this is what people 29:36 wanted pregnant women who want to carry a pregnancy to term suffering from a 29:42 miscarriage being denied care in an emergency room because the health care providers are afraid they might go to 29:48 jail and she's bleeding out in a car in the parking lot she didn't want that her 29:53 husband didn't want that a 12 or 13-year-old Survivor of insect 29:58 being forced to carry a pregnancy to term they don't want that and I pledge 30:05 to you when Congress passes a bill to put back in place the protections of 30:10 roie Wade as president of the United States I will proudly sign it into law 30:17 but understand if Donald Trump were to be reelected he will sign a National Abortion ban understand in his project 30:24 2025 there would be a National Abortion a monor that would be monitoring your pregnancies your miscarriages I think 30:32 the American people believe that certain freedoms in particular the freedom to 30:37 make decisions about one's own body should not be made by the government than vice president Harris there she 30:44 goes again it's a lie I'm not signing a ban and there's no reason to sign a ban because we've gotten what everybody 30:52 wanted Democrats Republicans and everybody else and every legal scholar 30:58 wanted it to be brought back into the states and the states are voting and it may take a little time but for 52 years 31:05 this issue has torn our country of wanted it back in the States 31:11 and I did something that nobody thought was possible we disced the states are now voting what she says is an absolute 31:18 lie and as far as the abortion B no I'm not a favor of abortion B but it doesn't 31:23 matter because this issue has now been taken over by the states would you veto a National Abortion ban if it well I 31:30 won't have to because again two things number one she said she'll go back to Congress she'll never get the vote 31:35 there's impossible for her to get the vote especially now with the 50/50 and essentially 50/50 in both Senate and the 31:43 house she's not going to get the vote she can't get the vote she won't even come close to it so it's just talk you know what it reminds me of when they 31:49 said they're going to get student loans terminated and it ended up being a total catastrophe the student loans and then 31:56 her I I think probably her boss if you call him a boss he spends all his time on the beach but look her boss went out 32:04 and said we'll do it again we'll do it a different way and he went out got rejected Again by the Supreme Court so 32:09 all these students got uh taunted with this whole thing about this whole idea 32:14 and how unfair that would have been part of the reason they lost to the millions and millions of people that had to pay 32:20 off their student loans they didn't get it for free but they were saying it's the same way that they talked about that 32:27 that they talk about abortion but if I could just get a yes or no because your running mate J JD Vance has said that 32:33 you would veto if you did come to your desk well I didn't discuss it with JD in all fairness uh JD and I I don't mind if 32:40 he has a certain view but I think he was speaking for me but I really didn't look 32:45 we don't have to discuss it because she'd never be able to get it just like she couldn't get student loans they 32:50 couldn't get student loans they didn't even come close to getting student loans they student Lo and a lot of other 32:56 people that had loans they can never get this approved so it doesn't matter what she says about going to Congress 33:02 wonderful let's go to Congress do it but the fact is that for years they wanted to get it out of Congress care she needs barely 34:14 can afford to do it and what you are putting her through is 34:19 unconscionable and the people of America have not the majority of Americans 34:24 believe in a woman's right to make decisions about her own body and that is why in every state where this issue has 34:31 been on the ballot in red and blue States both the people of America have voted for Freedom vice you were tasked by President Biden with getting to the root causes of migration from Central America we know 35:52 that illegal border crossings reached a record high in the Biden Administration this until six months before the election to act and would you have done 36:10 anything differently from President Biden on this so I'm the only person on this stage who has prosecuted 36:15 transnational criminal organizations for the trafficking of guns drugs and human 36:21 beings and let me say that the United States Congress including some of the most conservative members of the United 36:27 State Senate came up with a border security bill which I supported and that bill would have put 36:34 1,500 more border agents On the Border to help those folks who are working there right now overtime trying to do 36:41 their job it would have allowed us to stem the flow of fentanyl coming into 36:47 the United States I know there are so many families watching tonight who have been personally affected by The Surge of 36:53 fentanyl in our country that bill would have put more resources to allow us to 36:58 prosecute transnational criminal organizations for trafficking in guns drugs and human beings but you know what 37:04 happened to that bill Donald Trump got on the phone called up some folks in 37:09 Congress and said kill the bill and you know why because he'd prefer to run on a problem instead of fixing a problem and 37:18 understand this comes at a time where the people of our country actually need 37:23 a leader who engages in Solutions who actually addresses the problems at hand 37:30 but what we have in the former president is someone who would prefer to run on a problem instead of fixing a problem and 37:36 I'll tell you something he's going to talk about rallies because it's a 37:48 really interesting thing to watch you will see during the course of his rallies he talks about fictional 37:53 characters like Hannibal Lecter he will talk about when of those cases was involved with the doj from Atlanta and 46:54 fny Willis to to the uh Attorney General of New York and the da in New York every 47:00 one of those cases and then they say oh he was he's a criminal they're the ones 47:06 that made them go after me by the way Joe Biden was found essentially guilty 47:12 on the documents case and what happened in my documents case they said oh that's the toughest of them all a complete and 47:18 total Victory two months ago it was thrown out it's weaponization and they 47:23 used it and it's never happened in this country they used it to the Department of Justice 48:03 against his political enemies someone who has openly expressed disdain for 48:11 members of our military understand what it would mean if Donald Trump were back in the white house with no guard rails 48:18 because certainly we know now the court won't stop him we know JD Vance is not going to stop him it's up to the 48:24 American people vice president thank you lindsy vice president Harris in your last run for president weaponized please 48:32 this is the one that weaponized not me she weaponized I probably took a bullet to the head because the things that they 48:39 say about me they talk about democracy I'm a threat to democracy they're the 48:45 threat to democracy with a fake Russia Russia Russia investigation that went 48:50 nowhere we have a lot to get to Lindsay vice president Harris in your last run for president you said you wanted to ban 48:55 fracking now you don't you wanted mandatory government buyback programs for assault weapons now your campaign 49:01 says you don't you supported decriminalizing border crossings now you're taking a harder line I know you 49:07 say that your values have not changed so then why have so many of your policy positions changed so my values have not 49:14 changed and I'm going to discuss every one of the at least every point that you've made but in particular let's talk 49:19 about fracking because we're here in Pennsylvania I made that very clear in 2020 I will not ban fracking I have not 49:25 banned fracking as as vice president United States and in fact I Was the tiebreaking vote on the inflation 49:31 reduction act which opened new leases for fracking my position is that we have 49:38 got to invest in diverse sources of energy so we reduce our Reliance on 49:44 foreign oil we have had the largest increase in domestic oil production in 49:51 history because of an approach that recognizes that we cannot over rely on 49:56 foreign oil as it relates to my values let me tell you I grew up a middle class kid raised by a hardworking mother who 50:04 worked and saved and was able to buy our first home when I was a teenager the 50:10 values I bring to the importance of home ownership knowing not everybody got handed $400 million on a silver platter 50:17 and then filed bankruptcy six times is a value that I bring to my work to say we 50:22 are going to work with the private sector and home builders to increase punches in 3 million homes increased by 50:28 3 million homes by the end of my first term my work that is related to having a 50:34 friend when I was in high school who was sexually assaulted by her stepfather and my focus then on protecting women and 50:40 children from violent crime is based on a value that is deeply grounded in the importance of standing up for those who 50:47 are most vulnerable my work that is about protecting Social Security and Medicare is based on longstanding work 50:55 that I have done protecting seniors from scams my values have not changed and 51:02 what is important is that there is a president who actually brings values and a perspective that is about lifting 51:08 people up and not beating people down and name calling the true measure of the 51:16 leader is the leader who actually understands the strength is not in 51:21 beating people down it's in lifting people up I intend to be that president 51:26 mind please does that 52:15 sound familiar lie she went out she went out Minnesota and wanted to 52:23 let criminals that killed people that burned down Minneapolis she went out and raised money to get him out of jail she 52:30 did things that nobody would ever think of now she wants to do transgender operations on illegal aliens that are in 52:37 prison this is a radical left liberal transgender operations wants to 52:42 confiscate your guns and she will never allow fracking in Pennsylvania if she won the election fracking in 52:49 Pennsylvania will end on day one just to finish than two hours before you sent out that video 54:25 message uh telling your supporters to go home is there anything you regret about what you did on that day you just said a 54:33 thing that isn't covered peacefully and patriotically I said during my speech 54:38 not later on peacefully and patriotically and nobody on the other 54:44 side was killed Ashley babbit was shot by an outof control police officer that 54:50 should have never ever shot her it's a disgrace but we didn't do this group of 54:56 people people that have been treated so badly I ask what about all the people that are pouring into our country and 55:02 killing people that she allowed to pour in she was the Bazar remember that she was the Bazar she doesn't want to be 55:08 called the Bazar because she's embarrassed responsible she didn't do her job the question was about you as president not about speaker 56:49 Pelosi but I do want vice president Harris to respond here seven people died that January 6 56:56 yeah I was the vice president elect I was also an acting Senator I was there 57:02 and on that day the president of the United States incited a violent 57:07 mob to attack our nation's capital to desecrate our nation's 57:14 capital on that day 140 law enforcement officers were injured and some died and 57:21 understand the former president has been indicted and impeached for exactly that 57:27 reason but this is not an isolated situation let's remember 57:33 Charlottesville where there was a mob of people carrying tiki torches spewing 57:40 anti-semitic hate and what did the president then at the time say there 57:46 were fine people on each side let's remember that when it came to the proud 57:52 boys a militia the president said the former president said stand back and stand by 57:59 so for the most votes any sitting president has ever gotten I was told if I got 63 which was 1:01:15 what I got in 2016 you can't be beaten the election people should never be 1:01:20 thinking about an election is fraudulent we need two things we need walls we need and we we have to have it we have to 1:01:27 have borders and we have to have good elections our elections are bad and a lot of these campaign's top lawyers responded saying we won't let Donald Trump intimidate us we won't let 1:03:17 him suppress the vote is that what you believe he's trying to do here Donald Trump was fired by 81 1:03:24 million people so let's be clear about that and clearly he is having a very difficult time processing that but we 1:03:32 cannot afford to have a president of the United States who attempts as he did in 1:03:39 the past to upend the will of the voters in a free and fair election and I'm 1:03:44 going to tell you that I I have traveled the world as vice president United States and world leaders are laughing at 1:03:52 Donald Trump I have talked with military leaders ERS some of whom worked with you 1:03:57 and they say you're a disgrace and when you then talk in this 1:04:03 way in a presidential debate and deny what over and over again are court cases 1:04:09 you have lost because you did in fact lose that election it leads one to 1:04:15 believe that perhaps we do not have in China was afraid and I don't like to use the word afraid but I'm just quoting him China was afraid of 1:04:59 him North Korea was afraid of him look at what's going on with nor Korea he 1:05:04 said Russia was afraid of him I ended the nordstream 2 Pipeline and Biden put 1:05:09 it back on day one but he ended the XL Pipeline the XL pipeline in our country 1:05:16 he ended that but he let the Russians build a pipeline going all over Europe and heading into Germany the biggest 1:05:21 pipeline in the world look Victor Orban said it he said the most respected most 1:05:28 feared person is it well let's understand how we got here 1:06:50 on October 7 Hamas a terrorist organization 1:06:57 slaughtered 1200 Israelis many of them young people who were simply attending a 1:07:03 concert there must be 1:07:50 security for the Israeli people and Israel and an equal measure for the Palestinians but the one one thing I 1:07:55 will assure you always I will always give Israel the ability to defend itself 1:08:01 in particular as it rates to as it relates to Iran and any threat that Iran 1:08:06 and its proxies pose to Israel but we must have a two-state solution where we 1:08:11 can rebuild Gaza where the Palestinians have security self-determination and the 1:08:17 dignity they so rightly deserve president Trump how would you negotiate with Netanyahu and also Hamas in order 1:08:25 order to get the hostages out and prevent the killing of more innocent civilians in Gaza if I were president it 1:08:31 would have never started if I were president Russia would have never ever I 1:08:36 know Putin very well he would have never and there was no threat of it either by the way for four years have gone into 1:08:42 Ukraine and killed millions of people when you added up far worse than people understand what's going on over there 1:08:49 but when she mentions about Israel all of a sudden she hates Israel she wouldn't even meet meet with Netanyahu 1:08:57 when he went Norms which is the importance of sovereignty 1:21:50 and territorial integrity and I met with President zansky I shared with him American intelligence about how he could 1:21:57 defend himself days later I went to NATO's Eastern flank to Poland and 1:22:02 Romania and through the work that I and others did we brought 50 countries together to support Ukraine in its 1:22:10 righteous defense and because of our support because of the air defense the 1:22:16 ammunition the artillery the javelins the Abrams tanks that we have provided 1:22:21 Ukraine stands as an independent and free country if Donald Trump were President Putin would be sitting in keev 1:22:28 right now and understand what that would mean because Putin's agenda is not just 1:22:33 about Ukraine understand why the European allies and our NATO allies are so 1:22:40 thankful that you are no longer president and that we understand the 1:22:46 importance of the greatest military Alliance the world has ever known which is seen he got these countries 28 countries at the time he said I've never seen he's the 1:26:23 head of NATO he said I've never seen for years we were paying almost all of NATO 1:26:29 we were being ripped off by European nations both on trade and on NATO I got 1:26:34 them to pay up by saying one of the statements you made before if you don't pay we're not going to protect youwise 1:26:40 we would have never gotten it he said it was one of the most incredible jobs that he's ever seen done thank you I want to 1:26:46 turn to Afghanistan in the first of the debate and we witnessed a a poignant moment today on Capitol Hill honoring 1:26:52 the soldiers who died in the chaotic withdraw from Afghanistan I do want to ask the vice president uh do you believe 1:26:58 you bear any responsibility in the way that withdrawal played out well I will tell you I agreed with President Biden's 1:27:04 decision to pull out of Afghanistan four presidents said they would and Joe Biden 1:27:10 did and as a result America's taxpayers are not paying the $300 million a day we 1:27:16 were paying for that endless war and as of today there is not one member of the 1:27:23 United States military who is in active duty in a combat zone in any war zone 1:27:29 around the world the first time this Century but let's understand how we got to where we are Donald Trump when he was 1:27:36 president negotiated one of the weakest deals you can imagine he calls himself a 1:27:42 deal maker even his National Security advisor said it was a weak terrible deal 1:27:47 and here's how it went down he bypassed the Afghan government he negotiated 1:27:53 directly with terrorist organization called the Taliban the negotiation involved the Taliban getting 5,000 1:28:00 terrorist Taliban terrorist released and get this no get this and the president 1:28:07 at the time invited the Taliban to Camp David a place of stored significance for 1:28:14 us as Americans a place where we honor the importance of American diplomacy 1:28:20 where we invite and receive respected world leaders and 1:28:27 this former president as president invited them to Camp David because he 1:28:35 does not again appreciate the role and responsibility of the president of the 1:28:41 United States to be commanderin-chief with a level of respect and this gets 1:28:47 back to the point of how he has consistently disparaged and demeaned members of our military Fallen solders 1:28:54 and the work that we must do to uphold the strength and the respect of the 1:29:00 United States of America around the world vice president Harris thank you president Trump your response to her saying that you began the negotiations 1:29:06 with the Taliban so if you take a look at that period of time the Taliban was killing our 1:29:13 soldiers a lot of them with snipers and I got involved with the 1:29:19 Taliban because the Taliban was doing the killing that's the Fighting Force within Afghanistan they don't bother 1:29:24 doing that because you know they deal with the wrong people all the time but I got involved and Abdul is the head of 1:29:31 the Taliban he is still the head of the Taliban and I told Abdul don't do it anymore you do it anymore you're going 1:29:37 to have problems and he said why do you send me a picture of my house I said you're going to have to figure that out 1:29:42 Abdul and for 18 months we had nobody killed we did have an agreement 1:29:47 negotiated by Mike Pompeo it was a very good agreement the reason it was good it 1:29:53 was we getting out we would have been out faster than them but we wouldn't have lost the soldiers we wouldn't have left many Americans behind and we 1:30:00 wouldn't have left we wouldn't have left $85 billion worth of brand new beautiful 1:30:05 military equipment behind and just to finish they blew it the agreement said 1:30:11 you have to do this this this this this and they didn't do it they didn't do it 1:30:17 the agreement was was terminated by us because they didn't do what they were 1:30:23 supposed to these people did the worst withdrawal and in my opinion the most embarrassing 1:30:30 moment in the history of our owned 1:32:06 buildings and he he was investigated because he refused to 1:32:12 rent property to black families let's remember this is the same 1:32:17 individual who took out a full page ad in the New York Times calling for the 1:32:22 execution of five young black and Latino boys who 1:32:29 were innocent the Central Park 5 took out a full page ad calling for 1:32:35 their execution this is the same individual who spread birther lies about 1:32:40 the first black president of the United States and I think the American people 1:32:46 want better than that want better than this want someone who understands as I 1:32:53 do I travel our country we see in each other a friend we 1:32:59 see in each other a neighbor we don't want a leader who is constantly trying 1:33:05 to have Americans Point their fingers at each other I meet with people all the 1:33:10 time who tell me can we please just have discourse about how we're going to 1:33:17 invest in the aspirations and the Ambitions and the dreams of the American people knowing that regardless of 1:33:23 people's color or the language their grandmother speaks we all have the same dreams and aspirations and Want a 1:33:30 President Who invests in those not in hate and division right president Harris 1:33:35 thank you president Trump this is now your third time God this is the most divisive 1:33:42 presidency in the history of our country there's never been anything like it they're destroying our country and they 1:33:48 come up with things like uhoh what she just said going back many many many 1:33:54 years when a lot of people including May Bloomberg agreed with me on the Central Park 5 they admitted they said they 1:34:00 plead guilty and I said well if they plad guilty they'd badly hurt a person killed 1:34:06 a person ultimately and if they pled guilty then they plad we're not guilty 1:34:11 but this is a person that has to stretch back years 40 50 years ago because 1:34:17 there's nothing now I built one of the greatest economies in the history of the world and I'm going to build it again 1:34:23 it's going to be bigger better and stronger but they're destroying our economy they have 1:37:15 very good today and what I said that if we come up with something and we are working on things we're going to do it 1:37:21 and we're going to replace it but remember this I inherited Obamacare because Democrats 1:37:27 wouldn't change it they wouldn't vote for it they were unanimous they wouldn't vote to change it if they would have 1:37:32 done that we would have had a much better plan than Obamacare never different they wouldn't vote never came 1:37:39 up with a had a choice to make when I was President do I save it and make it as good as it can be never going to be 1:37:44 great or do I let it rot and I felt I had an obligation even though 1:37:50 politically it would have been good to just let it rot and let it go away I decided and I told my people the top 1:37:56 people and they're very good people I have a lot of good people in this that Administration except all the ones that ha bad ones we had some real bad ones 1:38:03 too and so do they they have really bad ones the difference is they don't get rid of but let me just happening I had a 1:38:08 choice to make do I save it and make it as good as it can be or do I let it rot 1:38:14 and I saved it I did the right thing but it's still never going to be great and 1:38:19 it's too expensive for people and what we will do is we looking at different plans if we can come up with a plan 1:38:26 that's going to cost our people our population less money and be better 1:38:31 health care than Obamacare then I would absolutely do it but until then I'd run 1:38:36 it as good as it can be run so just a yes or know you still do not have a plan I have concepts of a plan I'm not 1:38:43 president right now but if o that's good we come up with something I would only 1:38:48 change it if we come up with something that's better and less expensive and there are con 1:38:56 to do that and you'll be hearing got beting how much time he's you supported Bernie Sanders 1:39:03 proposal to do away with private insurance and create a government-run Health Care System two years later you 1:39:08 proposed a plan that included a private insurance option what is your plan today well first of all I absolutely support 1:39:15 and over the last four years as vice president private healthcare options but what we need to do is maintain and grow 1:39:21 the Affordable Care Act but I I I'll get to that Lindsay I just need to respond to a previous point that the former 1:39:27 president has made I've made very clear my position on fracking and then this business about taking everyone's guns 1:39:32 away Tim ws and I are both gun owners we're not taking anybody's guns away so stop with the continuous lying about 1:39:38 this stuff as it relates to the Affordable Care Act understand let just look at the history to know where people 1:39:44 stand when Donald Trump was President 60 times he tried to get rid of the 1:39:49 Affordable Care Act 60 times I was a senator at the time when I will never forget the 1:39:56 early morning hours when it was up for a vote in the United States Senate and the 1:40:02 late great John McCain who you have disparaged as being a you don't like him 1:40:10 you said at the time because he got caught he was an American hero the late 1:40:15 great John McCain I will never forget that night walked onto the senate floor and said no you don't no you don't no 1:40:23 you don't get rid of the Affordable Care Act you have no plan and what the Affordable Care Act has done is 1:40:29 eliminate the ability of insurance companies to deny people with pre-existing conditions I don't have to 1:40:35 tell the people watching tonight you remember what that was like remember when an insurance company could 1:40:41 deny if a child had asthma if someone was a breast cancer survivor if a if a 1:40:47 grandparent had diabetes and thankfully as I've been vice president and we over 1:40:52 the last last four years have strengthened the Affordable Care Act we have allowed for the first time Medicare 1:40:58 to negotiate drug prices on behalf of you the American people Donald Trump said he was going to allow Medicare to 1:41:04 negotiate drug prices he never did we did and now we have capped the cost of insulin at $35 a month since I've been 1:41:11 Vice President we have capped the cost of prescription medication for seniors at $2,000 a year and when I am President 1:41:17 we will do that for all people understanding that the value I bring to this is that access to health care 1:41:25 should be a right and not just a privilege of those who can afford it and the plan has to be to strengthen the 1:41:33 Affordable Care Act not get rid of it PR in terms of where Donald Trump stands on 1:41:38 Pro reveal his healthare plan since made a mistake at number one John McCain 1:41:44 fought Obamacare for 10 years but it wasn't only him it were all of the 1:41:49 Democrats that kept it going and you know what we can do much better than Obamacare 1:41:56 much less money but she won't improve private insurance for people private 1:42:01 medical insurance that's another thing she doesn't want to get people are paying privately for insurance president 1:42:07 Trump that's worked hard and made money they want to have private she wants everybody to be on government insurance 1:42:13 where you wait six months for an operation that you need immediate Trump thank you we have another issue that 1:42:19 we'd like to get to that's important for a number of Americans in particular younger voters and that's climate change 1:42:24 president Trump with regard to the environment you say that we have to have clean air and clean water vice president 1:42:30 Harris you call climate change an existential threat the question to you both tonight is what would you do to 1:42:37 fight climate change and vice president Harris will start with you one minute for you each well the former president 1:42:42 had said the climate change is a hoax and what we know is that it is very real 1:42:48 you ask anyone who lives in a state who has experienced these extreme weather occurrences who now is either being 1:42:54 denied home insurance or it's being jacked up you ask anybody who has been um the victim of what that means in 1:43:02 terms of losing their home having nowhere to go we know that we can actually deal with this issue the young 1:43:08 people of America care deeply about this issue and I am proud that as vice president over the last four years we 1:43:15 have invested a trillion dollars in a clean energy economy while we have also 1:43:20 increased domestic gas production to his historic levels we have created over 1:43:25 800,000 new manufacturing jobs while I have been Vice President we have invested in clean energy to the point 1:43:32 that we are opening up factories around the world Donald Trump said he was going to create manufacturing jobs he lost 1:43:39 manufacturing jobs and I'm also proud to have the endorsement of the United Auto Workers and Shan feain who also know 1:43:46 that part of building a clean energy economy includes investing in American 1:43:52 made products American automobiles it includes growing 1:43:57 what we can do around American manufacturing and opening up Auto plants not closing them like happened under 1:44:03 Donald Trump vice president Harris thank you that didn't happen under Donald Trump let me just tell you they lost 10 1:44:09 manufacturing jobs this last month it's going they're all leaving uh they're 1:44:14 building big Auto plants in Mexico in many cases owned by China they're 1:44:20 building these massive plants and they think they're going to sell their cars into the United States because of these 1:44:26 people what they have given to China is unbelievable a we're not going to let that we'll put tariffs on those cars so 1:44:32 they can't come into our country because they will kill the United Auto Workers and any auto worker whether it's in 1:44:39 Detroit or South Carolina or any other place what they've done to business and 1:44:44 Manufacturing in this country is horrible we have nothing because they 1:44:50 they refuse you know Biden doesn't go after people people because supposedly China paid a millions of dollars he's 1:44:56 afraid to do it between him and his son they get all this money from Ukraine they get all this money from all of 1:45:02 these different countries and then you wonder why is he so loyal to this one that one Ukraine China what happened to 1:45:08 CL why did get million doll from the mayor of moscow's wife why did he get 1:45:14 why did half million this is a crooked Administration 1:45:20 and they're selling our country down the tubes president thank you thank you we'll be right which he was not supposed to be speaking and yet they allowed him to 1:45:52 speak uh at the last the last time do you remember kamla Harris tried to speak 1:45:58 and they would not let her speak they wouldn't let her stop they stopped the microphone it's not good it's not good 1:46:05 but I still think she's doing fabulous up there I do too I think she's just all if I look at my list and the moderators 1:46:12 are not as bad as I expected I am going to say that right now I had I hope they say what did you mean when you said I 1:46:18 lost the election by a whisker and he said that that was great David said that I mean I have to say she's really I 1:46:26 think she's rattling him I think she's doing onliners that are smart she seems 1:46:32 the way she refers to real life experience over and over and over again 1:46:38 of what happened where is spectacular and I think the way and also the way she 1:46:43 looks at the camera and she says I am talking to you Americans you know you've 1:46:52 experienced this you know for example with regard to pre-existing conditions you know what it was like before we had 1:46:59 Obamacare uh you know that he is lying through his teeth I wrot down you I 1:47:04 think that this is very effective and I think that when she says I am about the future I am not Joe Biden I'm certainly 1:47:12 not uh I'm certainly not Donald Trump uh I am the future of America not only does 1:47:19 she mean it but she looks like the future of America but he's spinning out of control I mean can we after when 1:47:26 because we'll do a wrap up after this but can we predict the headlines for tomorrow because they really should 1:47:32 be you know the choice is clear I mean he's really he's not a functioning it's 1:47:38 not rational no well he was never rational he was never rational but it's so clear next to someone who is 1:47:45 rational well I hope you're right but Heather remember we're talking about a 1:47:50 very few people who have not made a up their minds I mean Trump voters if any 1:47:55 of them are watching tonight they are not going to be persuaded that he's out of his mind they're noted and and and 1:48:04 Democrats kamla Harris voters or or people who are leaning toward her are not going to change because of anything 1:48:11 that was said tonight but the question really for me is is the contrast so 1:48:18 large that she actually peels off some of the people in between some of the 1:48:24 waverers some of the some of the Independents some of the people who either have not made up their mind or 1:48:30 who go back and forth right that's the is few or a few who are going to sit it out and I think she needs to do a news 1:48:36 toour her as I said before I think she needs to get on some shows she is warmed up she did that CNN debate fine she did 1:48:44 this terrific let's go we have eight weeks and let's see more of this in different venues let's see more of it in 1:48:51 different not arenas which she can fill let's see it in on different news shows 1:48:56 we need her on out there more so more people can see this absolutely the the other thing that struck me you know as I 1:49:03 was watching her I was saying to myself can you imagine Joe Biden standing where she is standing uh and listening to 1:49:10 Donald Trump well we saw that on June 27th uh and Biden was not a fraction of 1:49:18 of the effectiveness of kamla Harris Harris comes back with strong words and strong 1:49:25 sentences and uh zingers uh and she says let's let's just 1:49:31 stop with all these lies but none of it's below the belt you know it's very what was the phrase use confused about 1:49:37 fact you know she's saying but she's not stooping to his level and God he wants her to and then she gets something and 1:49:44 you can you know it's under you know his skin because then he uses it back at her weak you think I'm weak you're weak and 1:49:50 he was weak and that was weak that plan was weak I mean it's like he can't he just spins on it that's exactly right he 1:49:57 Spin and you saw him spin even when the issue was uh you know taking money from 1:50:04 foreign governments as he did I mean he was the biggest abuser of the iments 1:50:09 Clause of the Constitution he took money from everybody and yet he's accusing the Biden administration of taking money 1:50:15 from China from whoever else yeah and there are more here we're back again 1:50:20 there are more outstanding you know alleged complaints on that will'll be more I'm sure okay we've got 1:50:28 this Bob and everybody welcome back tonight the time has come for closing statements and vice 1:50:33 president get the last one which is not great so I think you've heard tonight 1:50:38 two very different Visions for our country one that is focused on the 1:50:44 future and the other that is focused on the past and an attempt to take us 1:50:50 backward but we're not going back and I do believe that the American people know 1:50:56 we all have so much more in common than what separates us and we can chart a new 1:51:01 way forward and a vision of that includes having a plan understanding the 1:51:07 aspirations the dreams the hopes the ambition of the American people which is 1:51:13 why I intend to create an opportunity economy investing in small businesses in 1:51:19 new families in what we can do around Protec ing seniors what we can do that 1:51:25 is about giving hardworking folks a break and bringing down the cost of living I believe in what we can do 1:51:33 together that is about sustaining America's standing in the world and ensuring that we have the respect that 1:51:40 we so rightly deserve including respecting our military and ensuring we 1:51:45 have the most lethal fighting force in the world I will be a president that will protect our fundamental rights and 1:51:51 freedoms in including the right of a woman to make decisions about her own body and not have her government tell 1:51:58 her what to do I'll tell you I started my career as a prosecutor I was a DA I 1:52:03 was an attorney general a United States Senator and now Vice President I've only had one client the people and I'll tell 1:52:10 you as a prosecutor I never asked a victim or a witness are you a Republican 1:52:15 or a Democrat the only thing I ever asked them are you okay and that's the kind of president we 1:52:22 need right now someone who cares about you and is not putting themselves first 1:52:28 I intend to be a president for all Americans and focus on what we can do 1:52:34 over the next 10 and 20 years to build back up our country by investing right 1:52:39 now in you the American people vice president Harris thank you president 1:52:45 Trump so she just started by saying she's going to do this she's going to do that she's going to do all these 1:52:50 wonderful things why hasn't she done it she's been there for three and a half 1:52:55 years they've had three and a half years to fix the Border they've had three and a half years to create jobs and all the 1:53:03 things we talked about why hasn't she done it she should leave right now go 1:53:08 down to that beautiful white house go to the capital get everyone together and do the things you want to do but you 1:53:14 haven't done it and you won't do it because you believe in things that the American people don't believe in you 1:53:20 believe in things like we're not going to Frack we're not going to take fossil fuel we're not going to do things that 1:53:26 are going to make this country strong whether you like it or not Germany tried that and within one year they were back 1:53:33 to building normal energy plants we're not ready for it we can't sacrifice our 1:53:40 country for the sake of bad Vision but I just ask one simple question why didn't 1:53:46 she do it we're a failing Nation We're a nation that's in serious decline we're 1:53:52 being laughed at all over the world all over the world they're left I know the leaders very well they're coming to see 1:53:58 me they call me we're laugh at all over the world they don't understand what happened to us as a nation we're not a 1:54:04 leader we don't have any idea what's going on we have wars going on in the Middle East we have wars going on with 1:54:12 Russia and Ukraine we're going to end up in a third world war and it'll be a war like no other because of nuclear weapons 1:54:19 the power of Weaponry I rebuilt our entire military she gave a lot of it 1:54:25 away to the Taliban she gave it to Afghanistan what these people have done 1:54:31 to our country and maybe toughest of all is allowing millions of people to come 1:54:37 into our country many of them are criminals and they're destroying our country the worst president the worst statements are really encapsulations of 1:55:12 the difference I mean do you know did you notice that that KLA Harris did not level one criticism of Donald Trump yep 1:55:19 she there was not one attack and his closing statement was nothing but 1:55:25 attacks that's all he knows how to do is attack there was nothing I mean I feel 1:55:32 like in speech and debate 101 your closing statement is supposed to leave 1:55:40 people with an image of what you're going to do in the future I mean I feel like she followed the rules but this is what I felt like all night three people 1:55:47 there were in one planet and one person was on in a different orbit and I would 1:55:53 kill to hear what people say to him when he gets off the stage his Panic team oh 1:55:59 you did great they're all going to say that because he surrounds himself and has his entire life surrounded himself 1:56:05 with people who say you're great you know you're you're divinely inspired you're you're you're you're the head of 1:56:12 our cult U but notice that his technique is to use negative attacks and fear 1:56:21 that's all all he did it's all he did all night well also the Gish Gallop we talked about where it's so many lies in 1:56:27 a row that you can't counter them I mean so it was it was the combination of the two it was personal attacks and just 1:56:36 mean immature but he's stuck in a childish state of mind right where 1:56:42 untruths are actually truths for him I mean he's like the baby who goes and steals the cookie and then the mom me 1:56:50 says don't eat the cookie before dinner and then you see the baby and there's cookie everywhere and you say did you eat the cookie and they say no because 1:56:57 they are they're they're developmentally that's all they know how to do at that point reality is the reality for I think 1:57:03 the developmentally Donald Trump uh is really uh I mean he is he's disabled in the worst sense of developmentally disabled I mean he but he's a he was a president of the United States uh he he just there was nothing but damage that he created when he was president and interestingly Heather as you know as everybody's watching knows over the last four years there's nothing he's done positive it is all damage it's all criticism it's all lies it's all Division and now it's the blame game and we have to tell you that remember I said I wish we had a timer counting how many minutes he got New York Times says he got nine more minutes than she got nine interesting well he used them for negativity U now I it's interesting strategy of what she did at the end and I do you think and just think about this for a second was it right for her to 1:58:00 just dwell on the future and the promise of America and say nothing directly critical of his lies uh his Tantrums uh his negativity his attacks his uh incoherence what what do you think well so I'm going to be honest and I think she was fantastic tonight so I want to be clear about that her closing argument or her closing excuse me argument she's not being a lawyer tonight her closing statement I didn't it wasn't what I I wish she had done something different I wish there had been a different tone and a different energy and I do wish she had got in gotten in one or two things about mistruths even if it weren't specifically you know calling him out exactly I do wish she had been a little sharper um but she was very diplomatic and civil and that was the message she chose to end on that's exactly right uh she is the model of Civility uh and that's what she wants to bring back to 1:59:01 the United States that's what she wants for America uh are we going to be a civil society or are we going to go down into the sewer once again with Donald Trump uh but I I I tend I I I think she could have been a little bit more critical in that closing uh because uh she could have said the choice is very clear you know do we go to the Future uh and come together and be one people and be proud of ourselves or do we go backwards into a sewer created by this man of lies of non-stop lies of non-stop attacks of of of of trying to ridicule and subordinate people and and I think you should put this on substack well well I like I like your version I didn't I didn't dislike hers but I would have directed it differently if someone had asked me turns out they didn't they out but listen I want to I don't know I 2:00:03 think we're gonna have to wind up here I I don't know how you feel Heather I'm I'm charged up uh but I'm also feeling a lot of anger uh because and Donald Trump does that to me every time it just I feel because I have for my entire life fought bullies I mean you know that's that's been my what I do I know and he is he is the biggest bully of them all and as a as a woman I feel like we've put up with so much of that in our lives where he's like I'm talking you know or whatever he said you know or he said be quiet please that's what quiet I mean he's just it's yeah so I think angry and also disgusted and also sad that we've gotten this far and that people are still willing to put up with this and put that reality to the side and say but I'm still voting for him because of X my pocketbook because of my core values 2:01:03 that's a horrible one but it's the people who are still going to vote for him even though they don't like him which is a lot of people I've spoken to um well let me let me just say to everybody who uh saw this with us and shared their evenings with us and with kamla Harris and with the two ABC interviewers and even with Donald Trump thank you for your fortitude your tenacity uh but also let me just say one more more thing there is eight weeks between now and the 2024 election if you feel as I do and Heather does that this is a critical election that the choice here is huge that there is actually no choice that kamla Harris must be the next president and we must we must have the Democrats in control of Congress so we can actually get this nation back on 2:02:04 track well then you need to take action between now and November 5th you cannot be just somebody who sits around and watches democracy is not as I've said before is not a
