The Corporate Model
Though the corporate model for financial reporting is everywhere is it actually understood? It is essentiallly the same framework of analysis that has been in use for centuries if not millenia!
I completed my formal education at Cambridge in the early 1960s ... about 60 years ago. This has both problems and advantages!. A big advantage is that I now have some perspective on how change happens over time!
I worked as a CFO (and practiced corporate financial management analysis) for several decades) and in this role made decisions to imrprove profit performance. Nut I have also worked as an analyist for the World Bank, the UN and others to optimise socio-economic development performance. The fact that profit and socio-economic performance are not aligned suggests to me that our core thinking is problematic!
The ides that the ONLY thing that matters in the corporate world is profit maximization is nonsense ... yet this is what the elite business schools hage taught (indoctinated) their students (with) over at least the last half century! This is unconsciouble but it is the reality! And it is a problem that society has to handle!
