This is a fascinating compilation of general interest information about heavy machinery. I have had an interest in this sort of heavy machinery since I was first job-seeking early in my life. One of the companies that I interviewed with in the UK in the early 1960s was a manufacturer of this sort of heavy machinery, but eventually I chose a slightly different field ... the equipment used to produce iron and steel ... blast furnaces and rolling mills!
While people who work in fields like banking and finance may make more money than engineers and their teams, I have learned over the years that there are great differences between the pay and the value-add of different jobs. These differences have been getting bigger and bigger during my adult lifetime and have reached record levels with little movement to address the issue and make reward more equitable.
When I look at these amazing pieces of machinery I am internalising what they have done for productivity improvement and how these gains have been converted into reward for people and society. The potential may be huge, but how this conversion gets done may be more anti-social than anything else.
