Ukraine's progress during the summer fighting season has been a lot slower than Ukraine's supporters had hoped for. I see this as being explained by the massive deployment of defense measures by the Russians including land mines, hedgehogs and other measures and the Ukrainian policy of being as careful as possible with respect to the massive slaughter of its troops.
Hopefully Ukraine's allies will continue with a high level of material support for Ukraine ... anything less would be bad and a very shortsighted behavior. I was born in 1940 quite a long time before the US joined the war against the axis powers and only when they were forced into the war following Pearl Harbour.
The upcoming US election in 2024 is going to be important and it is my expectation that social media will be full of Russian supported misinformation ... and I am not at all certain that the tech platforms are prepared for this either in terms of manpower or simply from a technical capacity. The tech platforms have huge potential to generate 'profit', but their leadership, their corporate governance, the regulatory environment and the user community are in technological 'Wild West' and no 'Sheriffs in Town'.
