This is very well presented and a very important subject.
There is one issue that I do not entirely agree with and that is the idea that 'more is better'. Yes ... there are a lot of situations where more or bigger is better, but when it comes to size of population and quality of life a simplistic view of more delivering better is probably not true.
When I was studying economics at Cambridge at the end of the 1950s there was a view that quality of life was improving because productivity was improving and I would argue that there is a lot of evidence that productivity has been one of the important drivers of change and improvement in performance over the past 70+ years.
The issue not addressed in this presentation is the role that economic inequality has had and will have on quality of life.
I would also like to see more commentary and analysis on the role that resource allocation to security and the military and the destruction of war are having on quality of life. I was born at the beginning of WWII and spent my early childhood in the suburbs of London, followed by the austerity associated with the post-war rebuilding of wartime destruction. During my adult lifetime I have been annoyed by the amount of socio-enviro-economic analysis that looks at single issue situations without including much if any of the context. Much of my work over the years has been in countries outside the rich 'North' where economic performance has been awful for thousands of reasons ... and, frankly speaking, ignored for all practical purposes by the rich of the world!
My take on the world we live in today is that modern technology could be the foundation for a world that would deliver th3e best quality of life for the population of the world than anything in all of history, but that the management capacity to realise this result is severely compromised in large part because the management metrics are wrong and goals mostly unfit for purpose! The idea that the main goal is all about financial performance is insane ... but it is what we have and have had since the 1980s!
