14 Aug: Ukrainians PULL OF UNBELIEVABLE LANDING OPERATION AND CAPTURE THE BRIDGEHEADS NEAR RIVER
Earlier in the day, Ukrainian forces landed seven boats, each carrying about six to seven soldiers, near the settlement of Kozachi Laheri. Kozachi Laheri is on the Russian-occupied side of the Dnipro River, the main tributary of Ukraine in the Kherson region. Kozachi Laheri is about 3 kilometers inland from Dnipro and just south of the Konka River, which runs parallel to the Dnipro. The village has about 3,700 residents but some were evacuated after Russian forces blew up the dam of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant on June 6, 2023. The village has been occupied by Russian forces since February 24, 2022. The current big goal of Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy is to seize the advantage on the southern front lines. For this reason, while fierce clashes continued on the Zaporizhia front line, Ukrainian special forces attacked in the Dnipro region.
After the sudden raid, the Ukrainian forces crossed the Russian border and advanced to a depth of 800 meters. Kiev troops were able to capture a number of bridgeheads on the left bank of the river in the Kherson region. One of the next tasks is to reach the Azov Sea coast by cutting the land corridor between Russia and occupied Crimea. As it is known, Ukrainian forces are fighting near Melitopol and Berdiansk to cut off the Russian land corridor, and fierce clashes have been taking place in these regions for three months. Ukrainian forces have already passed the enemy's security zone.
The Kiev forces have reached the enemy's first line of defense and are now pressing the second line of defense. The Ukrainian army deployed its reserves there.
Understanding the seriousness of the Ukrainian approach, the Russians are trying to transfer their reserves there, especially in order to stabilize the situation near Robotine and strengthen positions in the Melitopol and Berdiansk directions. That's why Ukrainians need to move in three directions. These directions are Melitopol, Berdiansk and Kherson.
Also, a pro-Russian milblogger said that the raid has caused some inevitable and extremely painful problems for Russian forces. Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar kept her mouth shut, saying that Ukraine did not confirm the information about the raid. However, the Defense Ministry confirmed the day before the raid that special forces units were operating in the area. These forces were previously referred to as demons by pro-Russian milbloggers. Earlier today, a pro-Ukrainian milblogger Telegram channel posted photos showing allegedly seized equipment and Russian prisoners of war from the raid. As a result of the actions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, Katsap forces in that sector had to leave the settlement and the nearest forts. Dva Mayory, a prominent pro-Russian blogger, said that Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance teams crossed the Konka River under a cloud of smoke to hide their movements. Another pro-Russian milblogger criticized the Russian defense and suggested that the town could remain under Ukrainian control.
What was the purpose of the raid? The purpose of the raid may have been an attempt to establish another small bridgehead on the Russian-occupied side of the Dnipro River. This latest cross-river attack may be an attempt to capitalize on experienced Russian forces leaving to reinforce against Kiev's counterattack elsewhere. It could also engage a broader military strategy, including expanding the Ukrainian offensive or changing the point of attack. Given that Russia may also be transferring artillery batteries to Zaporizhzhya and the Donbass, Ukraine may be looking for opportunities to bring more troops to Dnipro, which is much closer to the front lines near Robotyne, 80 kilometers from Crimea.
The Ukrainian armed forces counterattacked the Russian invaders in the Zaporizhzhia direction and in the Kherson region. The previous day, the Ukrainian defenders continued offensive operations on the border of the Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk regions. Ukrainian defenders had little success in the Urozhayne - Bolshaya Novoselka region. Russian military bloggers claim that the Ukrainian armed forces have captured the positions of the invaders on the northern outskirts of Urozhayne. Ukrainian forces achieved new successes on the front line near the village of Urozhayne in the direction of Berdiansk. It seems that the Armed Forces of Ukraine has already managed to gain a foothold in the village and in the southwestern part of the settlement. In videos released the previous day, a Russian drone recorded the Armed Forces of Ukraine in this part of the village. This indicates that the Ukrainian forces successfully crossed the Mokri Yaly River and strengthened at least two positions there.
