THE UKRAINE WAR
PERSPECTIVE FROM ESTONIA Artur Rehi from Estonia ... Ukraine attacked a Russian base in Crimea Original article: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gt4frM9SELM Peter Burgess COMMENTARY I do not have a good understanding of Russia, but I do know that it is as complicated as it is geographically huge. The fact that there is such a centralization of power in the Kremlin while there is such a diversity of geographies and ethnicities in the country as a whole is unusual ... but very long standing. Putin may dream about the Russian Federation getting back to the status of a 'great power', but the reality is more likely to be more in the direction of a really 'little Russia' with rather few friends of any substance. Back in the mid 90s I did some consulting work in Kazakhstan in connection with 'Government Financial Management'. I was in Almaty for several months and during this time learned something of the animosity the Kazakhs had against the Russians. Most of economic strength associated with Russia also exists in Kazakhstan ... and it is interesting to note that the Chinese Belt and Road rail line includes a rail link through Kazakhstan from China to Europe !!!!!!!!!! I sense that the Baltic States are anxious that Europe is strong and willing to stand up against any belligerence from Russia !!!!!!! Peter Burgess | |||||||||
