The Spam Cans Original article: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWdRPgyPshs Burgess COMMENTARY I grew up in Okehamption not far from the railway station. Okehampton was on the Southern Railway main line from Exeter to Plymouth. There was a branch line from Okehampton to Bude. The first passenger train in the morning from London used to have a goods waggon at the rear to bring iced fresh fish to our region from the Billingsgate fish market in London. Most of the trains were pulled by Bulleid Pacifics. I got to visit the footplate of one of these locomotives at a naming ceremony for 'Okehampton' when this name was given to one of these locomotives. It must have been in the early 1950s. I was about 12 years old! Peter Burgess | |||||||||
