Thomas Wright ... built this house probably in the 1920s. My mother and her two sisters grew up in this house. The family sold the house around 1947 and much of the furniture migrated to the house in Devon where I grew up. I remember a number of family incidents from my very young years ... like Christmas 1942 when toys could not be found in the stores, but I received not one wooden truck, but two. One was made by the carpentry teacher at my father's school (where he was a teacher) and one made by my father. One was beautifully made ... the other not so much! I remember the garden more than the inside of the house. The orchard seems to have gone ... and I don't see an ornamental pond that caused all sorts of crises. I remember trying to negotiate a small bridge over the pond in a pedal car ... falling off the path into the water. I survived, but the adults were in quite a panic! Peter Burgess | |||||||||
