Down to the wire on Build Back Better Stop Joe Manchin 12:53 PM (48 minutes ago) to me Dear Peter, West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin is doing everything he can to blow up the Build Back Better Act. He’s rejecting one of the bill’s chief programs to slash climate pollution.1 He’s demanding that the child tax credit be dramatically scaled back.2 And he continues to demand a lower overall spending amount, despite the huge needs we’ve seen during the pandemic. We’re not falling for it, and neither are progressives in Congress. They’re still demanding a Build Back Better Act we can all be proud of—one that will ward off climate disaster, expand Medicare, guarantee universal pre-K, and more. So are we. We’ve already delivered more than 100,000 messages to Congress, demanding a full Build Back Better bill. We need to keep publicly calling on Congress to stay strong against Manchin’s sabotage. Will you chip in $10 to support progressives and keep the heat on Joe Manchin to not tank the most significant social spending bill in decades? If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately: Donate $10 Donate $20 Donate $40 Or, donate another amount The Build Back Better act includes an array of programs that Democrats promised voters in 2020: paid family leave, Medicare expansion, affordable housing, and major green energy incentives that would help avert the most catastrophic effects of the climate crisis, to name a few. These programs are wildly popular with the public, including in West Virginia, and they’re paid for by a tax on only the wealthiest Americans and corporations. But Manchin continues to stand in the way. Whether driven by ideological goals or his own personal wealth, he has caused huge delays of a bill that should have been finished and approved months ago. Demand Progress won’t stand for that. We’ll keep pounding the drum to point out who’s paying for these vital programs—the wealthiest. And we’ll keep having the backs of progressives who aren’t giving up on a meaningful Build Back Better Act that will help solve the climate crisis and strengthen the social safety net. Joe Manchin is trying to scrap the whole Build Back Better Act, but we’re not going to let him. Will you chip in? Thanks for standing with us.
