-----------
From Paul Zeitz to Everyone: 05:10 PM https://www.newsobserver.com/news/politics-government/article243438961.html
-----------
From Steven Rosenfeld to Everyone: 05:13 PM Question. How much do you think the GOP are seeing that these problems are affecting their base?
-----------
From Justin to Everyone: 05:14 PM Jennifer hit the nail on the head: to the extent that their constituents are vulnerable to particular threats (COVID, stock market, etc.)
-----------
From Steven Rosenfeld to Everyone: 05:15 PM Back to NC, there are some precedents to look at for bad digit-tech administration from GA and SC…
-----------
From Gary Lasky to Everyone: 05:16 PM Why are touch-screen voting machines still considered acceptable, given the known security concerns? Is there some reason why Democratic legislators are apparently comfortable with them, other than sheer corruption by the voting machine companies?
-----------
From Justin to Everyone: 05:17 PM @GaryLasky: John Brakey could tell you the details, but yes, it is basically that: laziness or corruption opening the door to contractor fraud
-----------
From Gary Lasky to Everyone: 05:19 PM Thank you.
-----------
From Jen Karius DRRP to Everyone: 05:20 PM is there going to be a chance to inform each other of the work we are doing, and in which states, in order to reinforce or help each other?
-----------
From Virginia Martin to Everyone: 05:20 PM Before NYS had electronic poll books, anyone could vote at the polls. Any absentee ballot that the BOE had would be set aside. The same is true now that we use EPBs. But it worked fine with paper poll books.
-----------
From Jen Karius DRRP to Everyone: 05:20 PM a go-round for that would be helpful. so we all know what we are doing
-----------
From Jed Pauker - Venice to Everyone: 05:23 PM Yikes!
-----------
From Tim White to Everyone: 05:23 PM Lawyer who set up Georgia named EAC General Counsel: EAC Commissioners Unanimously Approve Appointment of Kevin Rayburn as EAC General Counsel https://www.eac.gov/news/2020/06/10/eac-commissioners-unanimously-approve-appointment-mona-harrington-eac-executive 6-10-20 “This unanimous vote of the Commission shows the confidence we have in these great candidates to lead the EAC into its next chapter,” said Chairman Ben Hovland. … Mr. Rayburn brings a decade of experience as an attorney in various capacities in the public and private sectors. Most recently, he served as the Deputy Elections Director and Deputy General Counsel for the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office, where he provided guidance to state and local election officials on election administration and law, ensured compliance with state sunshine laws, helped reform the state’s election code and regulations, and was an integral part in modernizing the state’s voting equipment.
-----------
From Mimi Kennedy to Everyone: 05:29 PM I can see that something LA does has been the problem here. 4 million voters. Our Registrar’s office began “processing” (signature and eligibility check on the envelope with the voter’s signature, which is outside the Secrecy Envelope and then the Ballot Itself) as the ballots come in. They like to have them done by Election Day as much as possible. So before a voter shows up in person, it’s very possible the ballot has been processed as received back and therefore the voter is considered to have voted. Before e-pollbooks we could not tell whether this had happened. Now we have e-pollbooks and the pollworker can see if the “issued” ballot has been “received back” - and if it hasn’t been “received back” it can be cancelled and a regular ballot given on the spot. All this could be avoided by producing the unvoted ballot & envelope to “surrender” unused. This was obviously some law made when people were worried about double voting. I don’t know if it was done or this was just a worry created for extra steps
-----------
From Paul Zeitz to Everyone: 05:33 PM https://politicalcharge.org/2020/06/15/the-gops-problem-with-voting-by-mail/
-----------
From Jennifer Roberts to Everyone: 05:35 PM Have to leave for another call thanks all :)
-----------
From John Brakey AUDIT ELECTIONS USA to Everyone: 05:40 PM lI have to leave because I’m on another zoom call with my lawyers in Florida regarding elections.I will try to call back in when it’s wrapped up.
-----------
From Mimi Kennedy to Everyone: 05:42 PM yes. Early check registration & update; early voting; You can drop off a voted mail ballot at Early Voting in some stats where they won’t accept voted mail ballot drop-off on Election Day. If it’s hard to tell, be early. That’s the way to foil voter suppression. Early application of mail ballot; Early Voting if you don’t get it, just to be able to have the poll worker comply with whatever the steps are; Take your mail ballot & envelope with you, if you don’t use it but you do have it in your possession, and you vote in person. Period. No matter what, it might be useful for avoiding provisional.
-----------
From Ruth Strauss to Everyone: 05:43 PM Sorry--technical issue--can't find raise hand feature--usually obvious but not today (~ using different compouter but that shouldn't matter!) anyone know where to do it--already tried participant list which usually gives option but didn't do it
-----------
From Justin LeBlanc to Everyone: 05:43 PM Is there anything that prevents counties from running their precincts as drive-by ballot pickup (no documentation) and casting (with documentation)?
-----------
From Ray Lutz to Everyone: 05:44 PM To raise hand, go to participants click … at the bottom and click raise hand. Not sure if they will watch for hands.
-----------
From Justin LeBlanc to Everyone: 05:45 PM look for '...' or for 'participants'
-----------
From Jed Pauker - Venice to Everyone: 05:45 PM @Ruth, at the bottom right of the participant list should be a row: 'Invite,' 'Unmute me' and an ellipsis - three dots, on which you can click to fly out the 'Raise Hand' command.
-----------
From Mike Hersh Progressive Democrats Of America to Everyone: 05:46 PM thank you Kristin and Stephen!!
-----------
From stephen Spitz to Everyone: 05:46 PM Thanks Mike.
-----------
From Mike Hersh Progressive Democrats Of America to Everyone: 05:47 PM thank you for correcting misstatements and thank you for patience in listening to each other
-----------
From Gary Lasky to Everyone: 05:47 PM In states where there are early voting centers 2-3 weeks before the election, this is entirely possible, to have the early voting centers function as county Elections office annexes. People could apply for and pick up a ballot in one stop.
-----------
From Mike Hersh Progressive Democrats Of America to Everyone: 05:49 PM does anyone have the name of that SCOTUS decision?
-----------
From Danett Abbott-Wicker to Everyone: 05:49 PM Sorry for being late. Had a dental appt.
-----------
From Mimi Kennedy to Everyone: 05:49 PM As long as they can issue any precinct’s proper ballot style. In large counties with a lot of precincts it’s hard to have a stash of paper on hand. Or a ballot printer on demand, but that’s what it takes - the ballots are not universal to all voters.
-----------
From Mike Hersh Progressive Democrats Of America to Everyone: 05:49 PM welcome Danette! hope you’re ok
-----------
From Mimi Kennedy to Everyone: 05:49 PM But it should be possible. Since they’re doing that voter voters showing up anyway - Vote Centers are equipped to accommodate all voters in a county or jurisdiction.
-----------
From Danett Abbott-Wicker to Everyone: 05:49 PM @Mike, I'm good. Just a cleaning and check up
-----------
From Mike Hersh Progressive Democrats Of America to Everyone: 05:51 PM true about overseas and military voters for messaging: restrictions and obstruction disenfranchise military voters
-----------
From stephen Spitz to Everyone: 05:52 PM Every early voting day is an Election Day. We need to get rid of the idea that there is only one Election Day and it is in November.
-----------
From carlcarter to Everyone: 05:52 PM You should consider October 1st not 10th, as early as possible so it can be returned in time to count
-----------
From John Brakey AUDIT ELECTIONS USA to Everyone: 05:53 PM I'm back.
-----------
From stephen Spitz to Everyone: 05:53 PM Sherrod Brown should ask LeBron!
-----------
From Jonathan to Everyone: 05:55 PM We're working on an open letter to Lebron - welcoming, applauding, informing, suggesting. Still in draft format - we'll circulate for signers. We're also looking at private communication - a challenge, of course.
-----------
From Kristin’s iPhone to Everyone: 05:55 PM The Witness Signature Lawsuit in Roanoke, VIRGINIA: https://www.aclu.org/press-releases/federal-court-approves-partial-settlement-aclu-voting-lawsuit-challenging-virginias
-----------
From Steven Rosenfeld to Everyone: 05:57 PM We need to be a little clearer here. The problem found in Georgia was not with the printed summary cards produced by the BMDs (ballot marking devices). It was how Dominion scanners misread hand-marked paper absentee ballots.
-----------
From Jed Pauker - Venice to Everyone: 05:59 PM The BMD industry seems to have developed a number of ways to deliver faulty vote results.
-----------
From Steven Rosenfeld to Everyone: 05:59 PM There were other issues found with the BMDs in other states
-----------
From Kristin’s iPhone to Everyone: 06:03 PM t The VIRGINIA lawsuit to allow COVID (whether you have it or not) as an excuse for by-excuse absentee voting here: https://bluevirginia.us/2020/05/ag-mark-herring-breaking-we-won-a-huge-case-to-protect-voting-rights-during-the-covid-crisis-defeating-efforts-by-conservative-activists-to-restrict-voting-by-mail
-----------
From Mike Hersh Progressive Democrats Of America to Everyone: 06:04 PM what can we do to remedy this by Election Day?? as a matter of triage, we have limited time and resources
-----------
From Kristin’s iPhone to Everyone: 06:05 PM ... and this COVID-as-excuse case was brought by Jim Bopp, the crazy-ass right-wing attorney who brought Citizens United
-----------
From Mike Hersh Progressive Democrats Of America to Everyone: 06:05 PM we understand these problems but what can we do in time? we support VBM
-----------
From Kristin’s iPhone to Everyone: 06:06 PM **** Be prepared for Republican-brought lawsuits to happen more & more around the country — they will make Bush v. Gore look like children’s play
-----------
From Mike Hersh Progressive Democrats Of America to Everyone: 06:08 PM we need a list of priorities and articulated solutions beware of paralysis by analysis
-----------
From Jen Karius DRRP to Everyone: 06:08 PM yea thanks mike
-----------
From Mike Hersh Progressive Democrats Of America to Everyone: 06:08 PM Go Mimi!
-----------
From Danett Abbott-Wicker to Everyone: 06:08 PM I am willing to go to protests to register people to vote. I don't know if you have organized that group yet but I'm in
-----------
From Jen Karius DRRP to Everyone: 06:09 PM nice Danett there should be a team for that
-----------
From Danett Abbott-Wicker to Everyone: 06:09 PM I think this group was talking about that
-----------
From Jen Karius DRRP to Everyone: 06:09 PM i have made a spreadsheet that can be shared on Google so we can all see what we are doing, in case we want to work together. If you want to use it. It is organized by state it will be
-----------
From Mike Hersh Progressive Democrats Of America to Everyone: 06:09 PM great idea Jen Karius
-----------
From Jen Karius DRRP to Everyone: 06:09 PM yaaaa
-----------
From Danett Abbott-Wicker to Everyone: 06:10 PM @Jen that sounds great
-----------
From Jed Pauker - Venice to Everyone: 06:10 PM Contact your local Indivisible group to discover ways and means to register your local voters.
-----------
From Jen Karius DRRP to Everyone: 06:10 PM ok want me to share it?
-----------
From Justin LeBlanc to Everyone: 06:10 PM Sherwood to lebron would be a great start; failing that, we need to do our own individual contacts Thanks to Jen for putting together google sheet to coordinate
-----------
From Jen Karius DRRP to Everyone: 06:10 PM ok i can share it with people who want
-----------
From Mike Hersh Progressive Democrats Of America to Everyone: 06:10 PM registering is important but we’re focused on protecting voters from purges
-----------
From Jen Karius DRRP to Everyone: 06:10 PM or convince harevy
-----------
From Danett Abbott-Wicker to Everyone: 06:11 PM @Jen yes that would be awesome I have a lot of progressive activist friends I could get together to organize this
-----------
From Jen Karius DRRP to Everyone: 06:12 PM I have to add you so you can see it. I need an email address: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1I7JAhFOlT8A7QNbOMD1AO1WSaDimYFGfmnW0CIkwsK4/edit?usp=sharing
-----------
From Danett Abbott-Wicker to Everyone: 06:12 PM @Jen it's danettabbott2@gmail.com
-----------
From Jen Karius DRRP to Everyone: 06:13 PM We will first add our work in the states where we are working. later i will sort it by state
-----------
From Pat to Everyone: 06:13 PM What's the definition of purges? Is it just missing on a voter role?
-----------
From Mike Hersh Progressive Democrats Of America to Everyone: 06:13 PM let’s focus on what we can do from now until Election Day?
-----------
From Jen Karius DRRP to Everyone: 06:14 PM Done Dana Danett, I mean. I added you
-----------
From Mimi Kennedy to Everyone: 06:14 PM Purging is you are on the voter rolls and then you’re taken off. It will be illegal after August 5 for the general - 90 days out from Nov. 3. Take a screen shot of your registration after Augu. 5 Of upi
-----------
From Danett Abbott-Wicker to Everyone: 06:14 PM Isn't young people not registered to vote still a big issue? Wouldn't that help getting them on board? @Jen thanks!
-----------
From Mimi Kennedy to Everyone: 06:14 PM If you’re there you’re there. If you’re not there when you vote you can at least have the screen shot to report a problem with unprotected voter data
-----------
From Mike Hersh Progressive Democrats Of America to Everyone: 06:15 PM thank you Mimi!
-----------
From Mimi Kennedy to Everyone: 06:15 PM We’re recommending that people help one another check registration and then take the screen shots. But not until August 5
-----------
From Jen Karius DRRP to Everyone: 06:16 PM 2020 Voter Protection Activity Shared Spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1I7JAhFOlT8A7QNbOMD1AO1WSaDimYFGfmnW0CIkwsK4/edit#gid=0
-----------
From Pat to Everyone: 06:16 PM Mimi, those dates are different for evey state, no?
-----------
From Jed Pauker - Venice to Everyone: 06:16 PM Youth vote is less of an issue with BLM protests and organizing. We should expect a somewhat higher youth vote count - but we must continue reaching out, with Sunrise Movement being another group organizing youth vote.
-----------
From Mimi Kennedy to Everyone: 06:16 PM The article we’re doing on this will be out this week and we will circulate it. It’s not everything, but it’s something that voters can start looking at as self-protection from suppression. The rest is going forward and Brakey’s work is huge as a deterrent to manipulation of results and all the other actions are creating a much better atmosphere than we’ve had since 2000 showed us how bad it was and HAVA made it worse.
-----------
From Danett Abbott-Wicker to Everyone: 06:17 PM I would imagine Sunrise has a pretty robust group to register people?
-----------
From Stephen C to Everyone: 06:17 PM 'double-agent contractors'? If people see Ray Lutz's (copswiki.org) exposure of CA's use of double-agent contractors and after that do not revolt like Seattle, then they are bought and paid for with bread and circuses.
-----------
From Jen Karius DRRP to Everyone: 06:17 PM 2020 Voter Protection Activity Shared Spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1I7JAhFOlT8A7QNbOMD1AO1WSaDimYFGfmnW0CIkwsK4/edit#gid=0
-----------
From Mike Hersh Progressive Democrats Of America to Everyone: 06:17 PM let’s unite behind Mimi’s voter information effort?
-----------
From Jen Karius DRRP to Everyone: 06:17 PM jenkarius@gmail.com
-----------
From Mike Hersh Progressive Democrats Of America to Everyone: 06:17 PM thank you Jen K for this leadership
-----------
From Danett Abbott-Wicker to Everyone: 06:17 PM @Mike absolutely! Whatever you guys need
-----------
From Mimi Kennedy to Everyone: 06:17 PM Steve R says the 90 days out from Nov 3 federal election is a firm date for registration to be NO MORE PURGES. It is NOT the last day to register as a new voter. It’s just the last day for purging whoever is already there. I am taking that from Rosenfeld if he wants to weigh in.
-----------
From Steven Rosenfeld to Everyone: 06:19 PM Mimi is correct here. This is date past which states are not allowed to purge. If they do, there’s ample federal law and court rulings that will restore those voters.
-----------
From Mimi Kennedy to Everyone: 06:19 PM But you can newly register. I think there may be a federal (nationwide) last date for registration too but I am not sure. Will (as with everything) have to look up!
-----------
From Tim White to Everyone: 06:21 PM Absentee requester authentication conflict: Depending on jurisdiction, in some combination of: in-person paper request phone email online portal (state or county). With only name and DOB required (or other readily available personal info), easy requesting invites fraudsters to disrupt the election by remote requesting mail ballots in the names of real voters. Bogus or counterfeit requests cause all kinds of confusion, including disenfranchising you when fraudsters call, email, or click online for an absentee ballot in your name. Mimi alerts us of the Surrender Rule in some states requiring the in-person voter to surrender her mailed-out ballot, or else vote provisional. What should the voter do when she receives an unexpected mail ballot packet? Or shows up at the polls to vote in person and told she requested an absentee ballot? In-person & paper requesters can show ID or sign signature. But how to authenticate requester for phone, email & online requests, without making it too difficult for the voter?
-----------
From Mimi Kennedy to Everyone: 06:21 PM State by state. Quitk search I just clicked something and the sub-headline: The deadlines for registering to vote vary by state, and can be notoriously hard to track down.
-----------
From Kristin’s iPhone to Everyone: 06:22 PM Nutty Michigan (Go Blue! 💛💙 VOTE BLUE!!) ... https://www.wtsp.com/mobile/article/news/absentee-ballot-application-protest/69-d2a6c00b-ea74-4813-ade5-533d8d7d1a0a?fbclid=IwAR2UhmZZQoAwZLipmcxcfa8AJgppxblY0cBZUBNTLv_lJa1jsINTchyGL1M?fbclid=IwAR2UhmZZQoAwZLipmcxcfa8AJgppxblY0cBZUBNTLv_lJa1jsINTchyGL1M
-----------
From Mimi Kennedy to Everyone: 06:22 PM www.vote.org has all the state deadlines in a clear format
-----------
From Jed Pauker - Venice to Everyone: 06:23 PM Sunrise has many organizing groups, goals and actions. As an example, here's the Sunrise L.A. calendar (I suggest exploring the site as well): https://www.sunrisemovementla.org/events
-----------
From Justin LeBlanc to Everyone: 06:23 PM @Mimi, would you say that 90 days is a good rule-of-thumb for checking up on one's registration status? @StevenR Is voteathome.org good for this, as well?
-----------
From Steven Rosenfeld to Everyone: 06:24 PM Vote at home is good for that, yes. I regularly talk to those people. The best way to find out what you need to do in your county is look at their website or call the local election office. Contact info for all this is here: https://www.usvotefoundation.org/vote/eoddomestic.htm
-----------
From Tim White to Everyone: 06:24 PM I voted exactly like Ray just describe in WA Presidential Primary. It is Democracy Live's 'Omniballot' online BMD available to all voters.
-----------
From Kristin’s iPhone to Everyone: 06:25 PM Also, this Joisey Gal (in Virginia) probably came up with the zippy “10-10” as the absolute drop-dead date to request an absentee ballot due to the ole NYC radio station of “1010 WINS!”
-----------
From Pat to Everyone: 06:25 PM I see you are recording this forum. where can one see it? I missed the whole first part.
-----------
From Paul Zeitz to Everyone: 06:26 PM PLEASE REGISTER FOR WED JUN 17 TOWN HALL: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_lL84vQ7GS0qkKxH7KqlNzA
-----------
From Steven Rosenfeld to Everyone: 06:28 PM here is a link to the calendar of upcoming statewide primaries and elections now thru mid-august. 25 more states will hold these elections. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1vU6qp_0p0-3yV3t98jLIj-BTa69MemDUQ7g-HLrhwyA/edit?usp=sharing

From Me to Everyone: 06:32 PM Election systems don't follow the KISS rule ... maybe I might be able to help with the processes essential to do accounting, accountability and transparency ... but I don't want get in the way and slow things down
