Hi Lynn,
So sorry for the late reply - it’s been quite a hectic couple of weeks across all of my projects (but I can't wait to tell you about a different sustainability project that we're working towards launching soon).
Here’s a brief overview of the sustainable building project my colleague and I have been working on.
We are designing sustainable homes to be low enough cost that they can be widely accessible, but comfortable and modern enough that the average person will want to live in them. Our hope is to normalize sustainable living structures that capture rainwater, use solar energy to power electronics, and utilize grey water systems. We have completed a great deal of the planning and at this point are trying to find a general contractor that would be experienced in this type of building, or willing to experiment with it.
Details - Our plan is to construct a net zero thermal mass home utilizing flexible form rammed earth construction, partially stabilized with cement and waterproofed with 8mill vapor guard and plaster. The home will be complete with a rainwater catch system and filtration system for the drinking water system. It will have grey water collection and biofiltration for use in landscaping and toiletry. The black water system will have a primary biofiltration and decomposition system before connecting to traditional sewage or septic systems. The house will be powered via a solar array connected to a battery storage system with both AC & DC circuits through the house to maximize power efficiency.
