Green Economy | |||||||||
Burgess COMMENTARY With conventional financial accounting and performance analysis, a green economy is dead on arrival. If we number social impact and environmental impact as rigorously as we number economic impact (profit) all sorts of better decisions will be made. When you change the way the game is scored you change the way the game is played. I think it is about time we changed we way we keep score ... Countering the Trump Era: Engaging with the people towards an inclusive Green Economy?
Agile Strategic Sustainable Financial Management - H2020 Advisory 11 articles It is the 9th November and Donald Trump has just won the US Presidential Elections. What does this, on top of Brexit, populist elections across the world and even the Arab Spring, signify? It shows that the average person on the street is disillusioned with the current political status-quo. This morning, I have just read on linked-in, a post to an article by Elon Musk, that robots will take all the jobs. What do these changes within our economies and political systems tell us; how can the engagement of the populous lead to a inclusive Green Economy? My argument is that in an age of information at our finger-tips, knowledge of lobbying by big corporations and vested interests has led to the disenfranchisement of the voter. Only by addressing these concerns, building an inclusive economy where people feel secure, that their voices are listened too and that they can feed their families at the end of the day, can we have a society be seen to be fair. This fair society will also be a stable one and at the same time will address climate change. It could be argued that the 20th Century and it's consumer society and corporate greed has led us to this situation now. The corporate funding and lobbying, the exclusion of stakeholders voices has led to this backlash we are seeing at the ballot box. The encouragement of Green issues and working with all peoples means that their is a strong opportunities for all going forward. The answer is to not dismiss peoples views, but work with them and understand that the new dynamic is one that includes, jobs, good health care, education that is affordable and an economy that will address the ravages of climate change and can more sustainable. The era of Trump, is upon us and we now have to wake up and work with it.. PS. Please do leave comments.
