Dear Ron,

I meant to respond way before this ... but the weekend got away from me ... and today has been a snow cleanup day, but now more or less under control.

I am fascinated by your financial initiatives for many different reasons. Some goes back to the 1960s when I was in my 20s and learning to be Chartered Accountant and running a small 'investment club'. That opened up an opportunity to do volunteer work with a very very large investment club in the UK that eventually morphed into the first mutual fund in the UK. When I came to the USA in the late 60s I worked in the corporate world and became a very young CFO, helping to make companies make more profit ... and I was quite good at it because I was committed to the idea that you make good products and run an efficient factory, a company will make a lot more money than poor products and sloppy operations!

In the second half of my career I did consulting work ... mostly overseas and mostly through the World Bank, the United Nations and other parts of the international development assistance ecosystem. This introduced me to what was going on in more than 50 countries, and I got to learn a lot about the potential and problems at the bottom of the pyramid (BOP) not to mention many of the issues at the top of the pyramid!

Fast forward, I am now in the third half of my life and trying to build on what I have learned. I don't think conventional accounting is good enough for the complex world of the 21st century, but an enhanced version of conventional accounting could be a game changer. This is what TrueValueMetrics.org is all about. Part of my current thinking is that there is a need to be able to link money that wants to do good things with entities that want to do good things. This link is not very efficient and in my view part of the problem is that effective numbering is not being used and too many people don't appreciate that social good and environmental good without also an economic value add cannot be sustainable and provide a reasonable return on capital.

I am going to be in Manhattan again on Monday, December 9th ... for an evening event at 6pm mid-town. Is there any chance we could meet sometime prior to that ... really any time that would work for you. I think I could benefit from your background and experience.

With best regards

PeterB
