Join us November 4-5 at the 10th annual Summit in Pittsburgh, where we will get a firsthand account of the ways in which urban development leaders are working collaboratively to create equitable, sustainable and thriving communities throughout the region. In Pittsburgh, the East Busway has become a vehicle for community redevelopment, and transit stations have become the center of redevelopment. This Studio will visit three communities undergoing transformation and explore new strategies and tools to develop Transit Oriented Development in a way that balances revitalization with community benefits. In April 2019 the community of Homewood unveiled a new Comprehensive Community Plan. The result is a renewed focus on community stabilization and grass roots action to advance sustainability and economic opportunity. Participants will unpack and explore the role of community driven planning, and how the EcoDistricts Protocol can help to build partnerships, identify key priorities and attract investment. The Triboro Ecodistrict promotes coordinated sustainable community development throughout the Boroughs of Millvale, Etna and Sharpsburg through the shared lenses of Equity, Food, Water, Energy, Air Quality, and Mobility. With the climate crisis impacting vulnerable downstream communities like the Triboro, this studio will explore the role of integrated ecological design and green infrastructure to protect against future floods, while building local capacity. The historic Hill District and Uptown neighborhoods are on the verge of being transformed through investments in Bus Rapid Transit and high density mixed use development. In this studio, we will discuss the opportunities and tension created when large investments are needing to be carefully knit together to serve the people who call these neighborhoods home. The greater Hazelwood neighborhood, a former steel mill community, was once a literal and metaphorical economic powerhouse of the region. New revitalization efforts center on the redevelopment of the old mill site and restoring the heart of the community's once bustling main street. On this tour we will explore redevelopment projects along the Hazelwood business district and Mill 19, a hub for next generation technological advancements. The Pittsburgh region has long suffered from some of the nation’s most dangerous air and water quality. This session will focus on ways that communities are making sense of the environmental threats they’re facing and collaborating to create healthier places to live, work and play. PURCHASE SUMMIT 2019 TICKETS TODAY Join us for the Summit Research Forum Sunday, November 3rd | Chatham University, Eden Hall Campus Neighborhoods are rich places of learning when many people come to share expertise. The 8th Annual EcoDistricts Research Forum will explore how community-embedded research in Pittsburgh can equitably benefit both the community and locally serving academic institutions. Community members, students, and academic professionals from Pittsburgh’s renowned colleges and universities will gather to present current research projects and discuss how they can collaborate to better support neighborhood and district scale sustainable development projects. The Research Forum will take place on Sunday, November 3. It is open to all conference registrants and academics and practitioners are encouraged to attend. JOIN US IN PITTSBURGH. Peter Burgess 12:31 AM (0 minutes ago) to Jerome Jerry Thank you for sending me this information. A few years ago this group started to work on an eco-district in Brooklyn. I injected myself into the middle of this group and was fairly optimistic that this might be the opening I was looking for to apply an early version of what eventually has become TrueValueMetrics. One of the other people who was involved with this was a young professional who had worked with Arup in China. Suddenly the group disbanded and disappeared. I don't know why and there was no explanation. I must admit, I liked the basic construct of what they were trying to do. The young man from Arup introduced me to TEST ... The Ecological Sustainability Trust, an organization based in the UK that is using very advanced AI to help with the planning of cities. This is some of the material that has been archived. It could do with some edit and clean up ... not to mention being updated to some more recent evolution of the TEST community. http://www.truevaluemetrics.org/DBadmin/DBtxt001.php?vv1=L0500-TEST http://www.truevaluemetrics.org/DBadmin/DBtxt001.php?vv1=L0700-TVM-and-TEST http://www.truevaluemetrics.org/DBadmin/DBtxt001.php?vv1=L0500-TEST-Mansion-House-2014 While I am impressed with what can be done using advanced technology ... I am also a strong critic that with a 'management' element to the use of data, the progress and performance will never be optimum. You might want to learn some more about ARUP ... they are one of the best consulting firms in the UK ... more engineering, architecture and urban planning than corporate / financial!
