Thank you for watching the launch of the BP Statistical Review of World Energy Why is there no leadership among the bankers, the big companies, powerful rich investors and top tier politicians? Part of this is that we have been sold on the idea that GDP growth, corporate profits and stock prices are a good set of measures for socio-enviro-economic performance. This is nonsense. The things that really matter are quality of life ... for everyone ... and a sustainable natural world. In my adult life (around 60 years) there has been amazing technical progress, but relatively weak improvement in the quality of life for most of the world's population and catastrophic degradation of natural ecosystems upon which the future of everything depends. We have been taught through corporate advertising that more and more means better and better, when what it really means is that more products sold will generate more profits for companies and wealth for stockholders. My dream is that there will be a meaningful rethink of how e=we do accountancy so that the impact on people and planet are taken into consideration as rigorously as the generation of profit. When things get measured, things get managed! Very poorPoorAverageGoodVery good How would you rate the sound quality of the webcast? Very poorPoorAverageGoodVery good What topics covered in the presentation were of particular interest to you, and why? The presentation this year as in prior years reflects the history of the company BP and the industry of which it is a part. There was a time when London had trams and trolley buses, but these were pulled out because of the influence of the petroleum and automobile industries. The industry today is struggling to change AND maintain a very high return on investment for its stockholders ... and also trying to avoid any accountability for the huge damage done to the environment by its behavior over the past many decades. What topics were not covered in the presentation which you would like to see at a future event? Why is there no leadership among the bankers, the big companies, powerful rich investors and top tier politicians?
