Our strategic aims are to be: a vibrant association of choice for accounting and finance academics; the voice and resource of the accounting and finance community; and campaigners for accounting and finance research and pedagogy. Please check the presenters schedules as there have been some room and slot changes. PLEASE NOTE: There is an online programme for conference delates. Bramall Auditorium, Birmingham University Speakers Professor Ian Tonks Ian Tonks is a Professor of Finance in the Department of Accounting and Finance at the University of Bristol. His research focuses on pension economics; annuities; fund management; directors’ trading; and market microstructure. He has published in leading finance, economics, accounting and management journals. He has provided advice to a number of commercial and regulatory organisations including London Stock Exchange, Competition Commission, Financial Services Authority, and Financial Conducts Authority; and has advised HM Treasury, Bank of England, Department of Work and Pensions, and House of Commons Work & Pensions Select Committee on issues in pensions and savings. This Year's Supporters Registration and Fees Opens: 4 January 2019 Closes for main conference presenters: 1 February 2019 Closes for Doctoral Masterclass presenters: 1 March 2019 Closes for non-presenters: 22 March 2019 This year the registration fees are: Full Ticket: £320 Discounted Ticket: £160 (You can check if you're eligible here: http://bafa.ac.uk/conference-information/#rate) Both tickets include all conference sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday, refreshments, the conference dinner, the early bird reception and access to the online programme. For PhD students, the ticket also includes the doctoral masterclasses on Monday. Buying a ticket registers you for this event. Tickets to BAFA conferences are only available to members. To purchase a ticket, log in to your account on the BAFA Membership Portal (https://members.bafa.ac.uk/) and click the 'Purchase Tickets' button. Directions to the University of Birmingham CALL FOR PAPERS FOR THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE Online Submission Opens: 3 September 2018 Closes: 5 December 2018 We invite submissions of full papers on any topic from academics, final-year PhD students, and practitioners in the disciplines of accounting and finance. Papers will be reviewed by subject specialists drawn from our special interest groups and associates. As we are increasing the number of different events at the conference this year, there will be some restrictions placed on the number of presentation slots available. We aim to provide a showcase for innovative research and teaching in accounting and finance. Streams for 2019 include: Accounting History Financial Reporting and Accounting Management Accounting Auditing Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Accounting Accounting Education Accounting and Finance in Emerging Economies Corporate Governance Public Services and Charities Financial Markets and Institutions Corporate Finance Asset Pricing Behavioural Finance Financial Data Science and Econometrics Taxation New Technologies in Accounting, Auditing and Forensics Our Early Career Researcher sessions will allow final-year PhD students and those who have completed their PhD within the last five years an opportunity to present their work and get feedback from invited faculty and others in smaller sessions. Information on how to submit your paper can be found on the Conference FAQs page. NOTE: Late submissions will be considered for a waiting list, to be notified after 1 February 2019. No late payments will be considered in 2019. We will not accept payment for the conference at the registration desk. CALL FOR PAPERS FOR THE DOCTORAL MASTERCLASSES Our doctoral masterclasses will offer support and opportunities for feedback and participation, including: talks and events throughout the conference; a designated academic to provide support and feedback throughout the conference; networking and job seeking events; IMPORTANT: There will be events for PhD students throughout the conference. However, PhD students will be able to present in either the main conference or the doctoral masterclasses, not both. Please read the instructions below carefully. Choose only ONE of the following options OPTION 1 Online Submission Opens: 3 September 2018 Closes: 5 December 2018 Final-year PhD students and those who have completed their PhD within the last five years have the opportunity to submit FULL papers to the Early Career Parallel sessions in the main conference. They will get feedback from designated persons in the conference who will attend their presentation and offer feedback following the session, as well as receiving feedback in the session from the audience. Papers that are not accepted for presentation in one of the sessions on 9–10 April 2019 will be automatically be given a place in the doctoral masterclasses on 8 April 2019. OPTION 2 Online Submission Opens: 3 January 2019 Closes: 31 January 2019 All doctoral students are invited to submit an ABSTRACT for the doctoral masterclasses on Monday, 8 April 2019, unless they have submitted a paper to the main conference. Students will be invited to present their own work, and will get feedback from faculty and other students. Students are expected to attend all sessions on Monday 8 April and will only be awarded a certificate of attendance on this basis. Students are also expected to attend the whole conference. There are 80 places available on a first-come, first served basis. Once the quota is full, your name will be placed on a waiting list. Acceptances will be notified on a weekly basis until 31 January 2019. Information on how to submit your abstract can be found on the Conference FAQs page.
