The shameless, unrelenting lying of Donald J. Trump is unprecedented in US history. The Washington Post reports that Trump is on pace to tell 2,000 lies in just his first year in office.

In a piece titled, Donald Trump’s Lies Are Fatally Wounding Our Democracy, attorney Martin London recently wrote, 'The mortal wound to our constitutional democracy committed by this government’s apparent adoption of the policy that lies are the appropriate remedy when truth and fact are politically inexpedient. Without strict adherence to concepts of truth and fact, there can be no organized system of justice.'

Legendary broadcast journalist Bill Moyers knows this danger well, reflecting several years ago that, “We have all the Orwellian filigree of a public sphere in which language conceals reality and the pursuit of personal gain and partisan power is wrapped in rhetoric that turns truth to lies and lies to truth...We've got to get alternative content out there to people, or this country's going to die of too many lies.”

More than any of us thought possible, Moyers’ prediction is coming true.
