David Miliband: Rescue: Refugees and the Political Crisis of Our Time 175 views https://youtu.be/BkZER6I-La0 Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs Streamed live on Nov 30, 2017 Today the world is facing the largest refugee crisis since World War II—and the global exodus keeps increasing. Over 65 million people are classified as refugees. Many of them have fled for their lives, and countless numbers have died on their journey. The actions, or lack of them, of the international community are a far cry from the liberal, enlightened internationalism of the period following the Second World War. What can be done to address these problems? Can we move beyond seeing refugees as a burden and empower them to help themselves and contribute to their societies? David Miliband is president and CEO of the International Rescue Committee, where he oversees the agency's humanitarian relief operations and its refugee resettlement and assistance programs. He is a former member of the British Parliament and served as foreign secretary of the UK from 2007-2010. For more information on this talk, please go to: https://www.carnegiecouncil.org/calen...
