New York Investing Meetup November meeting Export Tell a friend Share Tuesday, November 17, 2015 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM New York Life Insurance Company 420 lexington ave, 15th floor, New York, NY (map) Show picture ID to guards, go to 15th floor October 2015 has had many similarities to October 2014. One year ago, stock markets throughout the world were plunging. The drop was stopped when the European central bank (ECB) announced it would be doing QE -- quantitative easing (a form of money printing, which central banks have doing since 2008). This year, stock markets began falling apart in August starting in China. To stop the drop, the ECB said it would do even more QE than it was already doing. China announced its own stimulus measures as did Japan. The FED held off on raising interest rates from ZERO to 0.25% (at least two European central banks have NEGATIVE rates). Existing stimulus wasn't enough to keep stock prices up, more and more has been necessary -- as is the case with heroin addiction, an apt model to describe how the markets are currently working We pointed out in the September and October meetings that one important piece of confirmation was missing to say there was a downtrend in place in the US. On the flip side, there is now no confirmation yet that the uptrend in stocks will last, although that may come (until then we are in limbo). We will be telling you what to look for at the November meeting and why you should be paying attention to OIL. AGENDA: DAVID HARRIS, PhD - What it the market topping/bottoming model saying now. TBA - Surprise Guest Intermission and Networking DARYL MONTGOMERY - Update on Economy, Stocks, Commodities and Currencies There is a $10 admission charge to the meeting. |
