Riane Eisler: Caring Economics Global Oneness Project Global Oneness Project
Transcript English (Automatic Captions) 0:09in my work I basically have 0:12focused very much 0:13what a 0:15the leverage points to accelerate 0:18this shift that so urgently need it 0:22from domination to partnership and I've identified a number of leverage 0:28points of course the primary human relations as I mentioned 0:32gender childhood relations 0:36missin stories very very important 0:39because we humans lived by stories and yes economics 0:43that economics very different perspective than the conventional 10 0:49capitalist and socialist are 0:52economics from a perspective that really 0:55recognizes that both capitalist 0:59had socialist theory I came out of times that oriented 1:04still lower them today at least in the West 1:08to the domination system and that what we need 1:13is a new economic that 1:16incorporates the partnership elements have both but goes beyond 1:20them goes beyond then in a very specific and fundamental respect 1:26an economic system that unlike 1:30current minds whether their socialist were capitalist 1:34give visibility and value to 1:37the most essential activities life-sustaining 1:41activity be they the work of key ring and caregiving 1:47in families or the life-sustaining activities 1:52%uh nature why because without these we have nothing 1:56and so I have just 2:00a finished my new book called The Real 2:04wells nations and the subtitle is 2:08creating a keyring economics 2:12and of course you know just putting caring and economics in the same 2:15sentence 2:16that's not your usual conversation about economics 2:21is it so I first step really is changing the composition 2:25because that work 2:28of caring and caregiving whether it's for people 2:32orphanage is the most fundamental human work 2:37and yet if you look at today's 2:40economic indicators of productivity such as gross domestic product gross national 2:47product 2:47you see something absolutely ludicrous but understandable considering that it 2:53came out of the domination sister 2:55these indicators give 2:58value the plus side activities that actually harm 3:02that actually take life yes 3:06from oil spills because you know the 3:10work of cleaning them up is terrific for GDP 3:13from out putting people in prisons because Astro the prison industry is 3:18terrific for GDP 3:20from a bag making cigarettes 3:23well the health costs and the funeral costs a terrific for GDP 3:29weapons OPP fantastic for GDP 3:33so thats lunatic 3:36isn't it but its just lunatic I 3:40is what they don't include as productive whack 3:44which is the work of caring and caregiving 3:48that is performed in families primarily still by women although it's wonderful 3:54how many more men 3:55I'm now i Touring and ED and 3:59they thing and really lover ring in their father ang 4:04I mean that's what are the most important partnership trends 4:07but of course whether some by women or men is not part of the GDP 4:11naw is the life-sustaining 4:15processes have nature part of GDP so 4:19naturally what is not counted 4:22is not considered in policies so the first proposal 4:27in my new book is a new map a more realistic map 4:32for what is the domain of economics 4:36starting with the the core the household 4:39then the volunteer community economy that's on K 4:44then the market economy then the legal economy then the government economy 4:49which are the only ones 4:50those three that are counted today and then of course the natural economy 4:55if we start with this map we have a completely 4:58different are way 5:02I love seeing what is needed 5:05what kind of practices what kind of policies and me 5:09it and of course I also point out in this book 5:12that we have inherited this way 5:15I love this this many very distorted 5:18way are looking at economic systems 5:22from a time are yes that already have that much more to the termination system 5:27in which are in the ranking of one half of humanity 5:32over the other racking then over women 5:36was such a huge piece so that when I was supposed to do this work for free 5:42in a male controlled household and it was just not visible 5:47as important as productive and 5:50the 18 a of course is to have palestinians 5:54that give visibility and value 5:57to this most essential human work is particularly important 6:02up of course for humans it's essential but is particularly important for the 6:06post-industrial economy where we hear so much about producing 6:10high quality human capital 6:13thats not produced in universities if you don't step 6:17right there early and we know 6:21we do know that are early experiences 6:24really have such a profound effect don't 6:28on well with the with venture some creative whether we can work with others 6:33wasn't me are non-violent violent 6:36et cetera et cetera and yes whether we are really 6:40able to utilize our full human potential 6:44so if only from an economic perspective and I have learned in my 6:48what all my books show the benefits 6:52they don't just deconstruct critique they 6:55reconstruct and they show the enormous benefits 6:59first now social economic 7:03are and yes environmental after the shift 7:07to the partnership side Uploaded on Oct 17, 2007 Riane Eisler is an internationally known scholar, futurist, and activist, best known as author of the international bestseller The Chalice and The Aside: Perhaps we should not include womens studies salaries and other such fundings in GDP, if this crapola is the result. Makes sense, no? Looks like I have a lot of reading to catch up on. :) I |
