As our economy functions today, the true cost of using fossil fuels has no correlation to the environmental and social harm Like (1) Reply privately Flag as inappropriate 2 days ago Derick A. likes this Derick Ajumni Derick Derick Ajumni Founder & Editorial Manager | PVBuzz Media Top Contributor @Brad: Interesting take on the issue. I think the message here is simply one huge publicity stunt. It should be a thing about photovoltaic solar energy and not about any one of the sponsoring companies. Some media outlets are getting this all confused. Like Reply privately Flag as inappropriate 1 day ago Peter Burgess Peter Burgess Founder/CEO at TrueValueMetrics developing Multi Dimension Impact Accounting I love to see people pushing to do amazing things. Wonderful to see technology being pushed to do something that is seemingly impossible ... and so what if some of the sponsors get a bit of publicity. I have to put up with it on the tennis court, on the golf course, and during the Super Bowl ... so what's wrong with having some decals on this machine! My point is that the discussion should not be focused on who did what or sponsored what; but rather on the prospects and capacity/awesomeness of Solar photovoltaic energy. So I guess you don't watch NASCAR? Frankly I have no trouble at all (any more ... I used to be appalled at cricketers and tennis players wearing anything but all white) with people and products being labelled to advertise who made them and who paid for them. In fact, I have been known to advocate for politicians to wear coveralls like NASCAR drivers so that we know who has bought their votes ... but that is another conversation. In the case of this PV flight, the decals on the plane help to identify some of the people and organizations that are helping to make this possible AND likely also contributing in a significant way to the development of technology that is making this possible as well. Many of us are becoming aware that it is going to be energy storage and energy management that is going to be the big breakthrough for solar power (and wind power) deployment over the next few years ... and this solar flight circumnavigation experiment fits in with this programmatic part of the solar trajectory. Just mentioning NASCAR brings to mind watching clips were one cant know exactly what kind of vehicle is being driven because of ads allover the place. As the flight continues--the more I realize that any publicity for solar PV is better than no publicity. Like Reply privately Flag as inappropriate 1 day ago |
