Amit Bouri MANAGING DIRECTOR Amit Bouri serves as Managing Director and oversees the GIIN's membership, research, communications, and business development. His work in impact investing began when he was a strategy consultant with the Monitor Institute. At Monitor he was part of the team that produced the Investing for Social & Environmental Impact report, and he left Monitor to co-found the GIIN in 2009. Amit's other projects at the Monitor Institute included strategic planning and organizational development work for nonprofit organizations and foundations. Amit previously worked in the private sector as a strategy consultant with Bain & Company. He left Bain to work in global health at the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. He also worked in the corporate philanthropy units of Gap Inc. and Johnson & Johnson. Amit holds an MBA from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management, an MPA from Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government, and a BA in Sociology and Anthropology from Swarthmore College. Amit serves on the Board of Directors for Investors' Circle and SJF Institute. Ellen Carey IRIS STANDARDS MANAGER Ellen Carey serves as a Manager on the IRIS initiative, where she focuses on IRIS taxonomy development. Prior to joining the GIIN, Ellen worked as an international development consultant for PricewaterhouseCoopers focusing on developing the private sector in emerging economies. She's worked on a variety of projects ranging from managing global challenge funds focused on supporting inclusive businesses to investment climate programs in conflict affected countries. She has on-the-ground experience in working with entrepreneurs, investors in governments in a variety of countries including Tanzania, Afghanistan and Haiti. Ellen holds a BA in Applied Math and Economics and a MSc in Economics, both from Johns Hopkins University. Nadine Dorvelus EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT AND SENIOR OPERATIONS ASSOCIATE Nadine Dorvelus serves as Executive Assistant and Senior Operations Associate. She supports the GIIN’s Executive team and daily operations. Prior to joining the GIIN, Nadine was the Investment Assistant at the F.B. Heron Foundation, where she supported the Vice President of Investments and program staff in their mission-related investing. She also managed the operations of the Entertainment Law Offices of Robert S. Perlstein, Esq., and, before that, she was the Administrative Assistant to the Chief of the Voice and Telecommunications Department at the United Nations. Nadine holds a BA in Management Information Systems from Pace University. Sarah Gelfand DIRECTOR, IRIS AND IMPACTBASE Sarah Gelfand serves as the Director of the Impact Reporting and Investment Standards (IRIS) and ImpactBase. In this role, she oversees the strategy and program development for the IRIS initiative and the ImpactBase platform. Sarah previously worked in product development, business development, and strategic planning with several technology companies. Sarah also conducted public health research in malaria, HIV/AIDS, and cancer, among other areas. Sarah holds a BA in Applied Mathematics from Brown University and an MSc in Statistics from the University of Washington. Adam Gromis MANAGER, IMPACTBASE Adam Gromis serves as ImpactBase Manager. In this role, he is responsible for the development and strategy of ImpactBase, the GIIN's online global database of impact investment funds. Prior to joining the GIIN, Adam consulted for several different New York City-based organizations covering areas including community development, social entrepreneurship, and transportation policy. He gained the bulk of his professional experience in the fields of sustainable transportation and clean energy, holding positions at both the California Fuel Cell Partnership and UTC Power (a United Technologies company), and worked as an Air Pollution Engineer at the California Air Resources Board. Adam earned dual MBA/MPA degrees from New York University's Stern School of Business and Wagner School of Public Service and was a 2008 Fellow of the NYU Catherine B. Reynolds Program for Social Entrepreneurship. Adam has a BS in mechanical engineering and materials science at the University of California-Davis. Giselle Leung MANAGER, INVESTORS' COUNCIL Giselle Leung serves as Manager of the GIIN Investors' Council. She is focused on developing and managing the programs and services for the members of our Investors' Council. Prior to joining the GIIN, Giselle was a manager at Enterprise Solutions to Poverty (ESP), where she worked with leading companies in India, China, Colombia and Mexico to build inclusive business strategies that engage the poor. At ESP, Giselle designed and managed programs that incorporated a range of strategic and financial partners covering areas of agribusiness, microfinance and social enterprise. Giselle began her career at Cambridge Associates providing investment portfolio analysis to large non-profit endowments, and was a business strategy consultant at Braun Consulting. Giselle also served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Panama where she advised rural artisan groups on business operations, marketing and sales. Giselle holds an MBA and a Master of International Affairs from Columbia Business School and The School of International and Public Affairs, and a BA in psychology from Harvard University. Kelly McCarthy MANAGER, IRIS Kelly McCarthy serves as Manager for the Impact Reporting and Investment Standards (IRIS). She focuses on promoting adoption of IRIS standards, developing training materials and resources, as well as a registry for IRIS users. Prior to joining the GIIN, Kelly was the Global Impact Officer for New Ventures at the World Resources Institute, where she worked to build an impact measurement program for New Ventures' global operations. Additionally, together with industry partner E+Co, she led the development of and piloted the Small and Growing Business' (SGB) Toolkit and Training for Impact Measurement (TIMe). Before New Ventures, Kelly worked for the consultancy SustainAbility where she focused on accountability within Fortune 500 companies. Specifically, she explored how corporate disclosure of social and environmental performance can drive mainstream adoption of sustainable behavior. Early in her career, Kelly co-founded Good Harvest Market, an organic-lifestyle marketplace dedicated to ensuring that all socio-economic groups have the same access to healthy living choices, while also prioritizing local sourcing in order to promote positive growth in the local community. She holds a BA in Conservation Biology and Environmental Studies from University of Wisconsin-Madison. Melody Meyer ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, COMMUNICATIONS Melody Meyer serves as Associate Director of Communications. She oversees communications about GIIN projects and initiatives, including the Investors' Council and Impact Reporting and Investment Standards (IRIS). Melody also highlights the impact investment industry more broadly through the GIIN website and newsletters, events with GIIN staff and partners, and press outreach. Melody worked previously in the office of communications and media relations at the New York City Department of Education and as a book and author publicist for several publishing houses. She graduated with a BA from the University of Pennsylvania with a major in Communications from the Annenberg School. Kimberly Moynihan COMMUNICATIONS ASSOCIATE Kimberly Moynihan serves as Communications Associate. She contributes to the GIIN’s communications projects, including website management, events planning, and outreach. Kimberly is also responsible for supporting the messaging for the Investors’ Council, Impact Reporting and Investment Standards (IRIS), ImpactBase, and Network Membership initiatives. Prior to joining the GIIN, Kimberly worked at Accion International, where she contributed to developing the online communications and social media programs. She graduated from Tufts University with a BA in American Studies and a minor in Entrepreneurial Leadership Studies. Min Pease RESEARCH ASSOCIATE Min Pease serves as Research Associate. She contributes to the GIIN's research program by conducting research and writing publications and supports the organization's development via grants management. While at the GIIN, Min has contributed to shaping and writing a number of case studies, in-depth research reports, and financial and non-financial data analyses. She previously produced demographic and economic reports at the Sonoma County Economic Development Board, consulted in impact investing, supported a nonprofit development department, and taught in South Korea on a Fulbright grant. She has a BA in Economics from Whitman College and a MSc in Development Management from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Luther Ragin, Jr. CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER Luther M. Ragin, Jr. is the Chief Executive Officer of the GIIN. Prior to joining the GIIN, Luther served as Vice President for Investments at New York-based F.B. Heron Foundation from 1999 to 2011. Mr. Ragin oversaw the F.B. Heron Foundation's endowment, building a portfolio of more than $260 million, steadily increasing the impact investing allocation to more than 40 percent while maintaining competitive, risk-adjusted financial returns. Prior to joining the Foundation in 1999, Luther was the Chief Financial Officer of the National Community Capital Association, a trade association of community development financial institutions that provide access to capital in low-income communities. Other significant experience includes eight years as Chief Financial Officer of Earl G. Graves, Ltd., and seven years with Chase Manhattan Bank, including three years as Vice President of Syndications/Assets Sales for the North American Corporate Finance Sector. He holds a BA and Master of Public Policy from Harvard, and is a graduate of Columbia University's Executive Program in Business Administration. He is a member of the board of directors of Social Finance U.S., the GIIN, and the Threshold Group. He is an adjunct lecturer in public policy at the Harvard Kennedy School and a senior research fellow at the Hauser Center for Nonprofit Organizations. Abhilash Mudaliar RESEARCH MANAGER Abhilash Mudaliar serves as Research Manager. He is responsible for shaping and implementing the GIIN’s research strategy and program. Abhilash joins the GIIN with over seven years experience in social enterprise, impact investing and international development research, including time as a microfinance consultant at Unitus, an impact investor at Elevar Equity, and a social entrepreneur within Hippocampus Group. Abhilash also worked on a large-scale randomized controlled study of education policy experiments in southern India. He began his career as a management consultant at Bain & Company. Abhilash has earned Honors degrees in Arts and Commerce (specializing in Political Science and Finance, respectively) from the University of Melbourne and, more recently, an MPA/ID from the Harvard Kennedy School, where he received the Raymond Vernon Award. Arjun Reddy TECHNOLOGY MANAGER Arjun Reddy serves as Technology Manager. In this role, he guides the growth and development of the IRIS data infrastructure and technology platform. He also supports other GIIN initiatives in designing, evaluating, and implementing technical solutions to support internal operations and programmatic needs. Over the course of his career, Arjun has held technical leadership positions in a number of industries, including enterprise software, energy, and, most recently, financial services at JPMorgan Chase. Arjun holds a BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering and a BA in Economics from Rice University. Sapna Shah MANAGER, INVESTORS' COUNCIL Sapna Shah serves as Manager for the Investors' Council. In this role she focuses primarily on supporting Project Terragua, the Investors' Council working group on sustainable agriculture investing in sub-Saharan Africa. Prior to joining the GIIN, Sapna was the program officer for Africa and regional coordinator for East Africa for CNFA, a non-profit organization focused on strengthening the agricultural sectors of developing economies. In this role, she managed Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), USAID, and Gates Foundation agricultural development programs in sub-Saharan Africa, where she focused on the creation of rural enterprises and the commercialization of supply chains. She has monitored impact of fruit and vegetable farmers fulfilling procurement for a large agribusiness in India. Earlier in her career she worked at the Center for Corporate Citizenship with Fortune 500 companies to create business practices that were responsive to emerging market opportunities and social and environmental challenges. Sapna has BS degree in Neuroscience from Brown University and a Masters of Public Policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Brett Stevenson MANAGER FOR THE CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAM Brett Stevenson serves as Manager for the Capacity Building Program. In this role, she will focus on launching and managing the GIIN’s new capacity building effort for fund managers active in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. Prior to joining the GIIN, Brett was the director and creator of Engineers without Borders’ (EWB) Water Program, a technical assistance program aiming to increase Malawi's institutional capacity to repair and manage water infrastructure. She lived in Malawi for over 3 years, working closely with various levels of government and a variety of partners including UNICEF, WaterAid, and the African Development Bank. She then went on to serve as the Policy Director for EWB. Earlier in her career, Brett became a certified professional engineer and worked as a systems analyst and economic evaluator in the oil and gas industry. She has a Masters of Public Administration with focus on Non-Profit Management and Policy from Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service at NYU and a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Calgary. Tamara Stojkov OPERATIONS ASSOCIATE Tamara Stojkov serves as Operations Associate. She supports the Operations team, monitors daily office procedures, and assists GIIN staff with special projects, as needed. Prior to joining the GIIN, Tamara worked as an assistant in a boutique executive recruiting firm and at the American-Italian Cancer Foundation, a New York City-based nonprofit organization dedicated to fundraising for cancer research. Tamara is a member of various non-profit organizations, including Step Up Women’s Network and NY+acumen. She graduated with a BA in Psychology from Colgate University. Jérôme Tagger DIRECTOR OF MEMBERSHIP AND OPERATIONS Jérôme Tagger serves as Director of Membership and Operations. In this role, Jérôme oversees the strategy, member services, recruitment, and programming for both the Investors’ Council and Network Membership initiatives, as well as certain GIIN operations. Jérôme has an extensive background in non-profit management with global organizations in the fields of sustainable and responsible finance. He served as the Chief Operating Officer of the UN-backed Principles for Responsible Investment, where he worked for five years. Prior to that, he was Head of Research at Eurosif, the European Social Investment Forum. Jérôme is a graduate of Essec Business School in France. Safia Tapal MEMBERSHIP ASSOCIATE Safia Tapal serves as Membership Associate at the GIIN. In this role, she supports membership programming for the Investors’ Council and Network Membership. Prior to joining the GIIN, Safia lived in China and worked at an experiential education social enterprise and a policy consulting firm. She has experience in the U.S. working for AmeriCorps, and she is a StartingBloc Fellow. Safia graduated from Tufts University with a BA in International Relations and a minor in Chinese language. |
