The metrics being universally used to make policy are based on money. Specifically these are: (1) money profit for business; (2) stock prices for investors; and, (3) GDP growth.
It is widely recognized that better metrics are needed, but most initiatives to do this are not getting the traction required. In part this is because of their approach which remains centered on the performance of an organization or a project.
TrueValueMetrics (TVM) understands the importance of the organization as an implementing entity, but argues that the purpose of economic activity it to improve the quality of life of people who live in a community and on the planet ... in other words it is people, place and planet that must benefit from economic activity. TVM is about value and quality of life for people, place and planet, not merely money profit and money wealth.
The success of the TVM initiative depends on being able to make appropriate data collection 'apps' for people who have an interest in the progress of society. It must be possible for data to flow from a place into a datastore, and for key analysis to be retrieved.
If we change the way we keep score, we will change the way the game is played.
Let's talk and see what next steps are possible. What is the best way forward?
