About Us

WE'RE THE NATIONAL BODY FOR SOCIAL ENTERPRISE

Our members aren't just social enterprises. They also include private businesses, charities and public sector organisations who support our vision of a world where social enterprise is the usual way of doing business.

In 2012 we celebrated our 10th anniversary. We're here to:

• Run effective campaigns for our members and to lobby on the sector's behalf
• Carry out robust and respected research to help paint a picture of the UK's social enterprise movement
• Build networks between social enterprises
• Raise the profile of people and social enterprises in the sector

OUR ACTIVITIES & PROGRAMMES

Social Enterprise UK runs a number of programmes designed to help social enterprises, public sector organisations, charities and mainstream businesses improve their skills and expertise in areas including health care commissioning, social investment, business leadership, social franchising and education.

We chair the Social Investment Forum, a network of social investment and finance intermediaries (SIFIs) including Clearly So, Big Society Capital, Big Issue Invest and UnLtd.

RECENT SUCCESSES

Social Enterprise UK was recently awarded the Big Impact Award at the Third Sector Excellence Awards for its work successfully campaigning for the Public Services (Social Value) Act, which received Royal Assent in March 2012.

In August, we led the Not In Our Name campaign against US software company Salesforce, who subsequently dropped their attempts to trademark the term social enterprise.

UK SOCIAL ENTERPRISE SECTOR LEADING THE WAY The UK is widely recognised as having the most highly evolved social enterprise sector in the world. This has been achieved through the hard work and efforts of Social Enterprise UK and its members in creating a fertile policy environment where social enterprise can thrive. Social Enterprise UK has become increasingly involved in helping the social enterprise movement grow internationally.
