RENEWABLE POWER FOR BUSINESS

Mars looking for pan-European renewables solutions

Dominic Colston European Energy Buying Manager Mars 28 March Mars is looking for on-site renewable solutions for its European factories. In particular, we want to find funded solutions with a single provider for each technology. I would be very interested to hear from other companies who have resolved these challenges for their own operations to understand how to make them work - and also from solutions providers who think they may have the technology, process or approach.

Naomi Andersson Marketing Manager Southern Solar Ltd MARKETPLACE LISTING » RE: Mars looking for pan-European renewables solutions 28 March Hi Dominic, When you say funded solutions are you considering borrowing, community ownership or investors? Would you be looking at setting a power purchase contract rate for energy prices going forward? Depending on the country you are in, you could find it financially beneficial to retain ownership, there are many ways to approach this. We provide detailed payback scenarios to our clients for all the suitable options and assist with making the best decision for your business, for now and in the future. We are currently working with Welsh Water on a similar challenge and have a wide range of case studies to share for all the funding mechanisms I've mentioned. Quote in reply Reply to this
David Hunt Head of Commercial Renewable Solutions RE: Mars looking for pan-European renewables solutions 3 hours ago Hello Dominic, We have funders for most technologies, especially Biomass and Solar PV. As much as we like to keep things simple, hence the reason we are MCS accredited across 5 technologies, including wind, each location may require a different technology, and funding model. Especially for your European operations. I'd be happy to meet or speak informally at first to see if we might have funders and options that suit your plans. Quote in reply Reply to this
Jonathan Sheppard Managing Director Buckland Energy Projects Limited RE: Mars looking for pan-European renewables solutions 3 hours ago Hello Dominic Although you mention Renewables have you dealt with the lighting in all of your sites? As with Naomi could you clarify the funding requirement. I can offer finance for lighting projects. We offer AMKO Induction lighting that is an ideal solution for food processing plants. It offers excellent energy and maintenance savings, instant start - dimmable. No need to leave lights on 24/7 due to re-strike delay. Look forward to discussing further. Peregrine Fraser Commercial Director EvoEnergy Ltd RE: Mars looking for pan-European renewables solutions 3 hours ago Hi Dominic We may be able to help you on the solar PV side for funding across Europe. We and our partners would be able to meet the profile of partner firm that a company of your scale would require. Kind regards, Peregrine Quote in reply Reply to this

Mir Ali Senior Design and Energy Consultant EECO2 RE: Mars looking for pan-European renewables solutions 2 hours ago Hi Dominic, We at EECO2 support 2 Global Pharmaceutical companies carrying out Energy Kaizens at their facilities all over the world for more than 10 years, delivering Energy savings of Pharmaceutical critical HVAC Systems giving us a bit of a global perspective. We also provide consultancy services to a wide array of manufacturing sites which include automobile manufacturing sites including a pension fund administered by Mars at one of their facilities in the UK. I would rather look at Energy consumption from a holistic view to develop a strategic plan to Identify and prioritise Energy reduction projects, confirm cost benefits, develop scope and budgets and produce an implementation plan for approval and budget allocation in a phased manner.Once these projects are identified and delivered, would recommend a waterfall analysis to establish new energy benchmarks, Sustainability would be the final bit leading towards a carbon neutral operation. As you are aware, Pharmaceutical manufacturing is an energy intensive and highly regulated industry. We have carried out sustainability assessments and developed proposals towards making their Japan operations 'off grid/ carbon neutrality' which the company is currently pursuing, we are currently reviewing their Australian operations towards carbon neutrality. I shall be happy to discuss further, should you wish to proceed further. Best Regards, Mir Quote in reply Reply to this

Andy Howley Director Loopmaster (Europe) Ltd RE: Mars looking for pan-European renewables solutions 2 hours ago Hello Dominic, Given the fact that Mars facilities are quite possibly utilising process heating and cooling along with facility heating and cooling, ground source options are worthy of consideration where energy can be shifted from one process to other areas of the site or even to nearby third parties and sold as an energy supply to these third parties. This could be done as ESCO's or via other funding sources. The key really is to discuss your requirements and what options exist at the plants you have in mind. For example, the Slough site is a likely candidate for open loop boreholes although is close to the heat and power plant to which you may already be connected, but this may not take advantage of load shifting around the plant itself before using bought in energy. Open loop systems also provide the option of a dedicated independant water supply for some of the site operations. Feel free to contact us to discuss the possibilities of ground source as it is a largely misunderstood option which has enormous scope if design correctly. John Bailey Director Euro Payment Systems Ltd. RE: Mars looking for pan-European renewables solutions 86 minutes ago Hello Dominic, In addition to renewables make sure that you are not using more electricity than necessary. A lot of your customers use Vending Miser on their vending machines to reduce power usage. (They pay for themselves in about 1 to 2 years and save around 1 tonne of CO2 per machine).
