I ought to know when Adam Smith did his writing ... but it was a very long time ago, way before the industrial revolution and the invention of the modern money and banking system. His world was one of chronic shortage ... something very different from the modern world where the money profit sector produces a surplus for people who have all they need, and nothing for those billions that need a lot but have no money to buy things.
