Importance of Environment
The importance of environment has been clear since ancient times. Humankind was more able to thrive when the environment was productive in terms of fauna and flora ... and it was easy for people to survive. In modern times, there has been a dangerous lack of attention to the important role that environment has on everything, and an assumption that environment really does not matter.
Natural Capital
Relative to the individual, planet earth is big ... but relative to a population of nearly 8 billion people, the world has significant limits. Ignoring these limits has the potential to be an unmanageable problem that will eventually mean the end of life as we know it.
Natural capital is the stock of resources that may be used in support of everything that needs to be done to sustain the economy and to sustain society. Natural capital are the resources that are needed for everything.
Natural Systems
Natural systems are complex, but of vital importance. The natural world has a balance and an efficiency that is remarkable. There is a balance and a progress that has worked for millions of years, but increasingly being pushed into instability by the actions of humankind.
