WHAT VALUE IS A SMALL BUSINESS
A BIG VALUE TO QUALITY OF LIFE AND THE COMMUNITY
A SMALL BUSINESS MAY BE ECONOMICALLY INEFFICIENT
A small business may be economically inefficient ... but why does this matter, when it throws off all sorts of other benefits.
  • Being a place where people meet and have a little time to talk;
  • Being a place where a decent employer can give different people an opportunity for gainful employment;
  • Being a business that recycles money within the local community.
MANY SMALL BUSINESSES HAVE A PAYROLL PROBLEM
Many small businesses have difficulty meeting payroll. This problem is aggravated by blanket rules and regulations that apply everywhere and do not take into account local conditions.
For example, a Federally mandated minimum wage is quite likely to force many small businesses to close shop ... aggravating the already difficult economic conditions in many communities around the country. A better solution would be to allow wages to be driven by market conditions, and to establish a universal basic income (UBI) that enables everyone to be able to pay for basic necessities of life whether or not they have a well paying job.
LOCAL SMALL BUSINESSES MORE INTERESTING THAN HUGE CHAINS
If variety is the spice of life ... then huge chains do not contribute as much as the small local business. What is the value add in 'same old, same old'.
Worse, most chains leave the minimum of value add in the community, and export most of this somewhere else. In the case of large multinational chains, most work their magic so that they pay the smallest amount of taxes possible ... something that has been enabled by all sorts of complex regulations and loopholes.
