GOALS ARE PART OF THE MANAGEMENT PROCESS
• Clear goals help to focus everyone on what is to be achieved;
• But there also need to be plans to get to the goals;
• And there also need to be the resources to implement the plans;
• And there needs to be management systems to ensure that resources are used properly.
THE SDG GOALS ARE NOT COHERENT
• This is not suprising ;
• This is a result of compromise between parties that are in fundamental disagreement.

TARGETS and INDICATORS
• There is a huge body of work developing targets and indicators that are coherent with the SDGs;
• Many, of these were already in use in support of the MDGs introduced in 2000!

SUCCESS OF THE SDGs
• This will be constrained by lack of financial resources;
• While the goals are ambitious, the availability of financial resources is totally inadequate;
• There are mechanisms to talk about this issue, but little action to fix the problem!
