It is fair to argue that fighting in WWII was defensive and a matter of survival, and the elimination of some very evil behaviors. But fighting has very high costs ... on both sides, and also to non combatants who should not be hurt.
TPB note: I was born in 1940 and lived in the outskirts of London throughout the war. Eventually I was old enough to understand something of what the bombing was doing ... blowing out windows, ripping off roofs, knocking down the walls of buildings ... in that order of severity. As a very young child, I never knew that bombs killed and injured people. We slept in an air-raid shelter that my parents had built in the garden that would have been a safe place for anything but a direct hit! Since then I have read a lot about the various bombing campaigns of WWII, and followed the bombing campaigns in every subsequent war. I don't like war, and especially I don't like the bombing associated with war.
